Didn't MSU give up more points to OSU and PSU than we did this year? Despite having an actual offense to play with?
Rittenberg comment on Dantonio and OSU
I don't think there's much difference between giving up 46 points an 42 points and giving up 49 and 45. Especially when still dealing with John L. recruits.
But if we're going to look at it that way, MSU gave up 7 points to Notre Dame and 7 points to Purdue, while Michigan gave up...35 and 48.
So I don't think comparing scores like that is really productive. And in the long run I don't think it will matter anyway. Dantonio's building a defense in the mold of old Michigan - it'll look really good against straight ahead smashmouth teams like Iowa and Wisconsin, and get exposed badly by faster teams like Michigan and Penn State.
It's not productive, but it's something to think about. If Dantonio's defense can't stop the SpreadHD, the Spread 'n' Shred, or Terrelle Pryor, then, uh, I'm more than ok with that. Can OSU hire him tomorrow?
But he had Jevon "I Shoulda beena contender" Ringer in the backfield.
Poor showing really.
Dantonio won a National Championship at OSU as their Defensive Coordinator.
And Jim Hermann coached ours. He was also the assistant coach of the year and all that amazing stuff that made people think he'd be The One down the road.
Oops. Give the guy a little time.
Likely someone a bit younger like Luke Fickell
Only if Tressel leaves to coach the Bengals or some unlikely shit like that. Even then they probably stay in house.
