Some of you probably saw this, but Rich Rod was up in the booth for an interview during the CMU / FAU game tonight. FWIW, he was asked about the DC situation and had this to say:
"I'm putting that on hold until after the bowl games... A lot of the guys who might be interested are preparing for them right now..."
I thought that was interesting because it pretty much confirms the fact that the new DC will not be an internal hire (which I think we knew anyway when Hopson didn't get the nod).

Look, I'm sorry to bust some employment law here, but I will anyway:
The Equal Opportunity Act states that ANY job must be offered in public. It is illegal to hand someone a job without making it's availability known. A job MUST be made public for a week before it can be filled.
Shafer resigned on the 16th, the job was posted on the 17th. That means the EARLIEST it could have been legally filled is the 24th of December - Christmas Eve. That wasn't going to happen - Rodriguez is on vacation. Also, it won't be announced on Christmas, or the ensuing days.
The gap of time is NOT necessarily indicative of a choice not being made - even if the choice was NOT Hopson, we wouldn't know now. It's a confluence of the holidays and employment law.
Rivals has been told by WVU officials that Casteel isn't interested for the same reasons he wasn't before - he doesn't want to move his family. They ALSO report that high school coaches who have players being recruited by Michigan that they can expect Hopson to be the coach. Again, this is per Rivals.
Rivals can be wrong, obviously.
