That review of the 2008 Illinois game thread reminded me of this.
I seem to remember that the Illinois game was the one game where the kick return formation was different. Instead of having two deep return men on both sides of the field, they instead had Mr. Odoms as the only guy deep and replaced the second deep return man with Mr. Grady, who acted like the lead blocker.
Our return game was much better this game with the exception of the late fumble after the outcome was decided. Although it's hard to determine whether the return success was a result of the formation or Illinois' coverage, I believe this return formation was scrapped for the rest of the season.
Why did they turn to this formation for one game and why did it disappear just as quickly?
