I know Bacon threw cold water on this, but Brandon's absence from Hoke's presser as well as his deafening silence since Saturday are telling. Going AWOL during a media firestorm is not what you would expect from an arrogant prick of an AD who loves to hear himself talk, particularly when it's the coach he hired whose name is being skewered. I don't know if the report about Manuel and Bates is accurate or not, but I think Brandon's absence might be reason enough to be optimistic that things are happening behind the scenes.

I dunno, I think going AWOL during a media firestorm is exactly what I'd expect out of an arrogant guy like DB.  Arrogant people do not like to be confronted with evidence that they might not be all that and a bag of chips.  Brandon had no problem being front and center during the stretching firestorm because he could feel like the guy sailing in to save the day.

I've been wondering why Jeff Long of Arkansas hasn't been mentioned, because he really has a more impressive career as an AD than either Manuel or Bates and is going to be the chair of the playoff selection committee.  But it turns out he went to high school with Hoke and also overlapped with Hoke at Michigan:

So I can see how he might not be the best hire right now or might not be interested in the job.  Hope this rumor has some truth to it and we see some changes for the better being made in the AD.

Manuel was responsible for hiring Gil Turner at Buffalo and Kevin Ollie at UCONN, both of which were great hires (Ollie in particular). Both are also minority coaches, which I hope is coincidental and not the result of Manuel deliberately limiting his coaching pool.

I'm not so sure Turner Gill could be described as a "great hire."  In his 4 years at Buffalo his teams went 2-10, 5-7, 7-5, and 5-7.  Kansas then hired him, but he didn't work out there (which, I don't think should be held against him).  He's currently HC at football powerhouse Liberty University.

After reading Nick at Mlives article about John Harbaugh wanting Hoke to be the UM coach for many years to come.... Ha..Ya maybe John as HC and Hoke as DL coach.
