Recruiting Potent Potables

Michigan coaches told Larry Raper that they will have a decision tomorrow. They are deciding whether or not to offer him. He told me, as well as others, that he will commit if offered.

Brennan Clay told me that the junior days he will be attending are USC, Oregon, and Cal. He will be at Michigan for spring ball to check everything out, and see Tate. We also talked a little about Tate and next year. He told me that if Tate stays focused, and just plays his game we will all be blown away. He really trusts Tate's ability, and leadership. I know he's biased, but it's good to hear from a teammate, that he's respected.

For those that didn't hear, Devin Gardner dropped OSU from his list. He said they are focusing on Nick Montana, and if that doesn't work out, they'll come after him. I'm trying to figure out if this is a forever thing, or I'm mad at you, but I'll take you back thing.

When I read "are you on the W.C.", I didn't take it as timezones initially. I just thought of the old joke where an old lady asks where the water closet (bathroom) is and abbreves it as W.C., which leads a confused man to think she means a wayside chapel.

Long story short, I thought you were the only one up because you were on the toilet.

His profile has him listed as 6-2 177lb dual threat. Apparently he doesn't even have the starting position on his team locked up.

Seriously though, thanks Tom. It's good to hear all the positive talk about Forcier. We really need him to live up to the hype. I expect he'll still struggle at times this year, but it certainly sounds like he was the most polished of the potential QB signees.

Does anyone have any thoughts on him? Should Michigan offer him? Threet's transfer does open up a scholarship.

I know that he's a burner based on his video and Scout's (fake) 4.24 forty time, but what position would he play? Slot? Corner? Someone mentioned corner on another thread, but I'm not sure that's confirmed.

I'm just curious as to what people think.

The video that I saw on youtube (which I realize will only show the good stuff), shows him blowing away the competition. In fact I only noticed one time where he got the open field and got caught. I guess the only thing I have to wonder is if he is so good with the ball then why has RR not offered him yet. I really don't think we will need a lights out corner with guys like Warren and Cissoko returning so I would think if he came that he would play on the offensive side as a back or a slot but I am no expert by any means. I wonder (because I don't know) if he is from a small school. If that is the case that could be why he looks so good but RR is hesitant to move on him. Feagin looked great on tape but is now not even considered a back up QB.

Oh how I hate Ohio State

and he's 5'10" only 153 lbs... I can't beleive he'd be more than a KR/PR or a back up slot until he adds some weight...

So has he not qualified? Why not offer a guy with speed like that. He can at least return kicks right?

That makes me a saaaaad panda.

He just recently qualified. That's what they were waiting on. They have looked at his film, and told him they'll let him know tomorrow.

For me, we need bodies. Why not. Just offer him, get him in there, and see what happens.

Put him back there on KR and PR and let him go. I have heard his hands aren't the best as a receiver, but he can catch kicks.

Tradition is something you can't bottle.  But it is there to sustain you when you need it most.  I've called upon it time and time again.

Sounds like he'd be play corner if he came, and honestly, like Tom said, why not? He came back into the mix last week when his test scores cleared him with the Clearinghouse. He is fully qualified and IMO, there is no reason not to give him a shot.

I was just listening to Sam Webb from his Friday show (Iknow I am late) but there was a guy who called in and said that we would only have 16 or 18 scholarships to give out next year. Would it make sense to save some of these extras that we have this year. We already have 3 WRs, we will undoubtedly go after 2 QBs and we certainly will go for 3 or 4 D-linemen. That only leaves 10 or so for the rest of the positions. We will lose Brown and Minor so we will have to replace them. Almost seems logical to save the 3 or 4 that we have left for 2010.

We had 13 schollies to give. 16-18 means 25 for next year. Also, I've heard every UM recruiting coordinator since Bob Chimel, including Singletary (though not under RRod) say that they never want to "bank" schollies for succeeding years. 85 is so few that you want the bodies. Perhaps with his beefed up walk-on program, RR feels differently.
