I've tried fishing around on a few other message boards for help with this, so I figured I'd try my hand here.
Anyone else here use a Mac? Specifically, do you run Leopard? I've been having some problems with my hard drive, so I tried running disk utility to repair the disk. I had to run Verify Disk first, so I did that, and that failed, so now my Mac HD partition is greyed out and the computer won't boot past the startup screen.
From what I understand, the hard drive is to at least some degree corrupted, and that's why it won't restart. What I can't figure out is the degree to which this is repairable. Does anyone know if it's possible to create an image of the disk and say, put it on an external hard drive, reinstall, and have all my files and programs intact? If not, would I be able to take it to the Apple store and have them help?
Just wondering; I'm going to get ahold of my Mac guy tomorrow, but I'd like to know in the short term if anyone knows, just so I don't panic. I have a lot of irreplaceable stuff on the hard drive (ironically, I was going to go out and get an external this week to back up after I got my tax return back).
If anyone can at least calm me down here, that'd be cool. Thanks.
