Is there going to be a podcast this week?
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:51 PM ^
Yes, but they had to find a general MAC blogger rather than WMU. I think the guy specializes in Ball State. Paul was editing it last night, last I heard.
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:10 PM ^
Excellent. Looking forward to hearing it.

You had me going for a minute there, Brian. Now I'm not sure what to believe.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:27 AM ^
You know, a lot has been made about Brian increasing the popularity of his blog because of the publicity he gets by being on the radio all the time, but has anyone realized that HE is also helping the stations? I'm curious to hear if anyone else has turned on radio stations (like WJR or even WTKA) that they would have not otherwise listened to at that time or ever simply because Brian is on.

I was going to say that only the true space emperor that possess the continuum transfunctioner can do two interviews at once
September 3rd, 2009 at 11:13 AM ^
Please contact me regarding this continuum transfunctioner of yours. Our football games are getting in the way of practice, and I am interested in having our team do both at the same time.

when will we get a look at the Barwis vats?
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:55 AM ^
Great Scott! The space-time continuum was almost irreparably harmed...we must go back in the future to x point which is precisely the time when critical time juncture separated!
(I don't know if it is an exact quote but I did just watch BTF 1, 2, and 3)

You could even hear the continuum transfunctioner booting up in the background while Brian was being interviewed by Drew & Mike. Which was a terrific interview, btw.

I enjoyed the actual UM football discussion on WTKA. The note at the end about alleged media bias and agenda was perfect.
As for Albom ranting after your interview, all I can say is that Thursdays with Brian will be better than Tuesdays with Morrie.
And, unlike Mitch, I think you actually write about games AFTER they happen.

what was Albom pissy about? that Brian refused to sign off his intellectual rights to the story of a courageous young man who took on an oppressive media in the hopes of integrity and the joy of his girlfriend, who he proposes to in a heart-wrenching final scene over sports radio while she's driving home?
Hallmark movies pay the bills bitches.

Physics? We don't need no stinkin' physics!
Except to keep the fabric of the universe together. That's kind of important.
Awaiting the arrival of "MGoClone" in stores for the Christmas holiday

Does anyone have the D&M interview clip? It's not on the D&M website or yupislyr.com/drewmike

What happened on Albom's show? Mitch got pissy? Any highlights?
September 3rd, 2009 at 12:19 PM ^
Not sure if "pissy" is the right word, Mitch just did his superb and well-rehearsed impression of an arrogant, blue-blood journalist, kind of hammering Brian AFTER he got off the show, when he was unable to defend himself. No worries, though. I've listened to Mitch in the past (when absolutely NOTHING else is on) and that is pretty typical. They have a guest or caller who Mitch doesn't particularly agree with, and he kind of smiles and nods (figuratively, of course) while the person talks, then when they are gone and it's just Mitch and his sidekick, Mitch attacks the person.
In this instance, he got really heated and probably had to undo his collar (and so did Kenny) and started to literally yell about how Brian is not a journalist, all he does is read what other people write and copy-and-paste onto his website, etc. etc. etc. Very classless, yet very typical.

I hear he just makes shit up when the facts aren't interesting enough. Shoddy journalism from the freep? Get the fuck out of here!

In 2005, Albom and four editors were briefly suspended from the Detroit Free Press after Albom filed a column that stated two college basketball players were in the crowd at an NCAA tournament game, when in fact they were not. [22] In a column printed in the Sunday, April 3, Albom described two former Michigan State basketball players, both now in the NBA, attending an NCAA Final Four semifinal game on Saturday to cheer for their school. The players had told Albom they planned to attend, so Albom, filing on his normal Friday deadline but knowing the column could not come out until Sunday – after the game was over - wrote the players were there. The Detroit Free Press also suspended the four editors who had read the column and allowed it to go through to print. But the players' plans changed at the last minute and they did not attend the game. Albom was in attendance at the game, but the columnist failed to check on the two players’ presence.
Albom issued an explanation regarding his misreporting and apologized in print. The Detroit Free Press launched an investigation, and a probe of over 600 columns involving five investigative reporters ultimately concluded that there was no evidence of any other such incidents in the course of his career in Detroit. [23] In his return article, Albom again apologized for the mistake and thanked his supporters. [24] “I think I’d be a liar if I said it was easy to have people checking on everything you’ve done,” Albom told a Detroit TV station, “It hurts to have your integrity questioned, especially when you’ve been at a place for 20 years and tried to make a career of having some integrity…But sometimes it’s healthy to be humbled a little bit. I’m a smarter person because of it.” [25]

happened while I was taking a journalism class and we spent an entire session talking about it. Of course the professor and everyone else in the class fawned over Mitch's follow-up column, but I always felt it was just another case of sarcasm and arrogance from him. I don't remember his exact words but he sort of mocked his critics. What do ya' know?!
September 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 PM ^
Wow. Has Brian commented in here anywhere on Mitch's post-interview tirade? What a freking wimp. If he believes that stuff then he should have said so to Brian's face.
September 3rd, 2009 at 2:06 PM ^
so far the only comment about it I've heard from Brian was when he was on WTKA (today, maybe?) and he just kind of laughed it off. He certainly took the high road that runs way, way above where Mitch rides.
September 3rd, 2009 at 9:25 PM ^
* Albom pronouncing etc. as "egggsetera" at least a couple times.
* Albom not mentioning the name Rosenberg or Snyder eventhough these guys work in the newsroom with him
* Mitch's sidekick going on and on about Cook implying that the freshman were too stupid to speak to the media, which is not anything close to what Brian said, left me thinking that Ken shouldn't be speaking to anyone
