I don't live in the Mitten - but it is a RIOT hearing MSU law school advertise on TKA. Can't believe that they really refer to Sparty as a "powerhouse" academic institution.

Butch Woolfolk, Tony Boles and Tyrone Wheatley were home run threats. Denard will not be on the bench waiting on being QB. When Devin Gardner and C. Jones comes in next year D. Rob will be on the field somehow. OMG that kid is fast!

... Sparty bought the Detroit College of Law and moved it up to Lansing: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Most of the better law schools do not need to advertise on the radio. Sparty Law, Cooley, and Toledo buy airtime formerly the province of car dealers and swanky restaurants. You will meet some of these grads when you least expect it, usually after saying something like "Hey Waiter."

Not sure of your background, but I went to U of M undergrad and U of M Law and practice in Chicago, so I feel relatively qualified to comment on this. I know good attorneys who went to MSU law and John Marshall in Chicago, which is ranked in the same tier as Toledo and MSU. Statistically, yes, their LSAT scores, bar passage rates, and aggregate "numbers" aren't as high, but still, like I said, I personally know solid attorneys who went to these schools. I also know kids I went to law school with at U of M who are very academically intelligent, but I wouldn't want to be my lawyer, especially not in litigation or anything involving interpersonal skills. Further, the comment about meeting some of these grads when you least expect it, etc...uhh, yeah, that's a ton of young lawyers right now- including an inordinate amount of grads of U of M Law, which is top 10 nationally. (Luckily, I haven't met that fate...knock on wood. Jesus, knock on wood.) Sorry, just felt like I needed to stick up for my colleagues. Feel free to negbang me if I look like a douche talking from a high horse.

Don't get me wrong- I went to law school there because I knew where it would get me. I was and am working within the framework of the system that is currently in place. However, like I said, I know good lawyers who I'd rather work with/be friends with who went to "lower" law schools. I also know a lot of really dumb people who went to those schools, too. I mean, it's a mixed bag, and there are morons at "great" schools and bright achievers at "lower tier" schools. Although I will say this: Some of the kids in my law school class at U of M were the most intelligent people I've ever encountered and blew my mind. The professors, also, tend to be incredibly incredibly (yes, two "incrediblies") intelligent and the tops of their field. I think of myself as a regular dude who's (fortunately) good at standardized tests, and I must admit, I was intimidated by many of the people there from an academic standpoint. Not from a social one, though.
