A Quick HTTV Update Comment Count

HTTV14 Cover Final

So you're probably wondering where your books are, after the digital editions have been out since July 4 weekend. Here's what's happened.

First off, you should have your digital copy: Kickstarter backers if you haven't got yours yet check your email, check your Kickstarter account, or email me. If I'm by a computer you'll get it right away; otherwise you'll get it as soon as I'm by a computer again.

Second, we should have your address. Also if you haven't filled in your address form yet, you should have an email in your inbox from me this morning. Go do that RIGHT NOW.

What happened: The page files got held up at some check-through person who didn't realize it was a hurry project that was already formatted, etc., after being sent in to the printer/distributor, and this wasn't noticed until several weeks later because I was dealing with a personal tragedy in the interim and didn't follow up until then. So the printer didn't even realize they could could start printing until July 18, which meant they didn't touch them until July 21 and still haven't printed or bound a single copy. Ungh.

What's happening: The total fit has been blown and they're fast-tracking the print job and shipping the books out this week. That includes books that were from the Kickstarter, and books that were pre-ordered from the MGoStore (the signed ones won't come until, you know, they're signed). They're all going first class. So expect books to start arriving in mailboxes next week, and unless you're international start worrying by mid-August.

Mea culpa: This was my screw-up first and foremost. Production ran over to begin with and I wasn't on the ball to make sure everything was going smoothly afterwards.

ALSO: If your address has changed since you entered it, email me.

Given your significant contributions to this space and your recent personal loss, I would hope nobody here would actually hold your feet to the fire.

Hey, is there an way to update my shipping address? Seeing as how they haven't shipped yet, and my moving to my first home, I figured I could skip the USPS mail forwarding? Is this possible?

Though definitely not needed.  Life's a bitch sometimes, but taking care of family and personal things are most important.  And hey, its 2014, I like reading print copies of magazines and books as much as the next guy, but the e-version has been great.  Thanks for all your work!

I prefer to receive my football previews at least six weeks before the season so that I can have them translated into Latin and then read to me by someone dressed as a Roman town crier.  Three or four weeks is going to leave me in a real pinch when it comes to that.

No mea culpas, please Seth, it's totally understandable.  I've been enjoying the e-version so much I can't wait to get my grubby mitts on the real thing. Thanks for all your work!

Thanks much, Seth, and I'll add my condolences to the pile. I'm sorry at your loss. When my mother died back in 97, I found that the grieving went on, and it was little things long after her passing that brought her remembrance to my mind . . . seeing an empty box in the garage with her handwriting on it from sending the kids Christmas gifts. Or getting a whiff of the perfume she wore. I'm sure you will have bittersweet remembrances of your Dad, and I'm sure some of them will come with your Michigan football family traditions.

As regards HTTV, it will come when it comes. I'm looking forward to it, but that's all. Personally, I don't need the second copy autographed, but $50 seemed like a nice round number. My only bone to pick was I thought we were going to have a few t-shirt options besides the photobomber. Well, we all can use a shirt to schlep around in for chores and the like.

thanks for the info and the forthright explanation

I missed the eml telling me digital edition was ready, so just downloaded it.

You have now disqualified yourself from ever running for public office, by explaining what happened and taking responsibility.

I guess for me, it's not even August yet; we were supposed to have them already?! Still seem right on time in my mind. Thanks for the work put in on these and for these to get sent out.

What was on your plate was way more important. Y'all are the best sports writers out there and we will wait as long as it takes.

But yeah I feel your pain.

If anyone fusses at you send me that address file and I will personally give them the Mom Treatment. Which you don't wanna know.

If I did the draftkings deal to get a digital copy (procrastinated too long on the kickstarter, apologies) should I have heard something by now or are the lists of emails still coming in and it will take some time? I don't mind waiting, I'm just worried I signed up incorrectly somehow.

I spent so long trying to find a good digital release format. Then I had this conversation with Brian:

Brian: Short history of DRM: Fuck DRM.

Ultimately an unprotected PDF can go on pretty much any device--it's just under 10 MB so I even got it on my Kindle, though it's hard to read on there.

Thanks for letting me know that my copy didn't get lost, and that my wife didn't accidently thrown it out or something.

As has been noted, your apology is 1) accepted and 2) totally not needed.

One more reason why this blog has no right to criticize the coaching staff or the AD. You guys can't even publish a single issue of a magazine without issuing a mea culpa. Keep living in your glass house and throwing stones. BTW, I know you read what I write and it bugs the crap out of you. How is your censorship working?

No big deal here at all, and hopefully the vast majority of those who purchased this awesome magazine will agree. You've obviously had much bigger things on your mind over the last few weeks, so don't sweat it. If anyone is gonna get bent out of shape over this stuff, then they sadly probably don't have much else in their lives.

The digital copy looks great, and I'll look forward to having that glossy mag on my coffee table to grab as a reference this fall whenever it's needed, per my tradition!

As everyone else said, no apology necessary. I'll be reading it the same even if it was delivered after the season. Thank you for your all your contribution to the Michigan Football community.
