We all knew today would be tough...do they have an answer at QB? What about Antonio Bass from Jackson Michigan? He had wicked madd moves as a freshman, but blew out his knee and had nerve damage...so I read. If he was fully recovered he would be a perfect fit for RR's offense...does anyone know how he is?
QB - Antonio Bass
Bass' injury was career ending. He's under medical scholarship so he can graduate, if I remember correctly. No point in dwelling in past; we got to figure out how to adapt to current personnel so we can develop a functional offense.
threet looked good. he's probably our qb for the rest of the year. so no need to search for qbs anymore in my opinion unless we want to dabble with the razorback(?) formation with c brown
...Threet earned the starting job for the rest of the year based on that performance. He made one, maybe two, nice plays with the TD pass and then the pass to Carson Butler on the sideline, which was actually just a nice catch by Butler.
He held on to the ball too long, can't run the read option, and missed badly on several short throws, including that 4th-and-5 pass to Tacopants.
Sorry. The QB battle is still on.
i thought that sheridan looked significantly worse than threet. he overthrew every long ball, almost had the ball picked off several times including the 2 terrifying oh sh*t throws (one of which was picked and let to the 22-10 lead). threet hasn't secured the job but based on yesterday i can't see sheridan ending up with it over threet (in the furture)
Sheridan also had the exchange fumble after which he was benched. The amount of playing time he gets going forward will probably have a lot to do with how well he plays within himself and takes care of the ball.
While I agree that Threet did not solidify himself as our starter, I disagree on some of your points. I really thought he did a pretty good job actually at getting the ball out. He had to consistently get rid of the ball within 1-2 seconds with our terrible line play and for the most part did well. On the occasion when our receivers could not get open (which was surprisingly often), he had to hold on to it and I thought he bought time pretty damn well to try and find an open man even though there really wasn't one. He looked like his eyes were always downfield.
I can honestly say I was a bit naive in thinking there wouldn't be a major dropoff in good receiving after Manningham and Arrington left, but there clearly is. Our guys were getting jammed all day. It's not like any of our other units made it all that easy on Threet and think a lot of his mistakes were the cause of other units failing, rather than his complete futility. This analysis is pre-UFR, so I obviously could be wrong, but these were my observations of Threet. He shows a lot of promise and I don't think he made any mistakes any freshman wouldn't in his first start.
Hopefully Pat White will get the start against ND if Bass can't rehab in time.
The mgoblog Antonio Bass? meme is making a comeback!
hurt everyone from QB's to WR's. Utah dropped a lot of people in coverage and we had no threat of running game to bring that safety closer to the line. If I was to question anything from yesterday is that they should have stuck with the run just give a RB a chance to break something big.
