rundown of Michigan's riser

Part thirteen of the all-singing all-dancing season preview. Previously: The Story, 2009, quarterbacks, tailbacks, receivers, offensive line, secondary, linebackers, defensive line, special teams, offensive overview and predictions, defensive overview and predictions, and putting it on the record.
Note: Western preview upcoming with considerable assist from Tim. ETA about one hour, and then we're out.
This lives in glorious 720p if you've got the horsepower. Enjoy it in glorious 720p. Or enjoy it below. Paul did it.
[Update: Song is "A Better Son/Daughter" by Rilo Kiley. Album.]
A. Watch it. (If you watched it, go to D. Otherwise, go to B.)
-------------------
B. I told you to watch it. This is not optional. (If you watched it, go to D. Otherwise go to C.)
-------------------
C. I hate you so much. You don't win the World Series and are eaten by a dinosaur.
-------------------
D. It's pretty weird being a Michigan fan right now. Winningest program, relatively recent national title, six-of-seven losing streak against Blood Rival, 40 year bowl streak just broken, some guy who tells USA Today he "grew up in a holler," by which he means a dirt road, and "is the same guy [he's] always been" in charge of the whole broken enterprise. I don't think any of us expected to ever be here.
I told Paul I wanted a hype video along the lines that you saw above—unless of course you are currently inside the digestive track of a dinosaur, in which case what sort of wifi do you have?—and he was skeptical. "I've never put highlights to a waltz," he said. I told the girlfriend I told Paul I wanted a hype video along the lines above and she was incredulous. "But it's desperate and sad," she said. I was kind of like yeah… and? And then also I was kind of like "in desperation there's that shred of hope; people who are down and not desperate are resigned. I could be ignorant or desperate." Actually I didn't say that, I said something along the lines of "hi, I'm a Michigan fan, nice to meet you."
-------------------
E. By this point, I think Rich Rodriguez and the fan collective understand each other pretty good. Maybe we wanted people to conform to our idea of a "Michigan Man," but it turns out things just move towards an asymptote from opposite directions. Here we are on opposite sides of an unbridgeable gap, so close we can reach out our hands and touch.
I said earlier this week in The Story that last year was hard and apathetic. It's still hard, but goddammit I want Michigan to win.

F. Football!

G. I need a nap and a drink.
The video was excellent. Sums up the year pretty well. Hopefully next year's hype video will be about 3hrs long and full of sweet TD's by the entire cast. God I hope so.
"Gentlemen, attack this day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind" - Jack Harbaugh
Goddamit Brian, how do you always capture what I'm feeling so perfectly? I guess that it's more than just Brian now, it's the whole MGoTeam.
The freep can keep their fucking journalists: Albom repeating italicized cliches between paragraphs, the anti-logic Sharp, Rosenberg pushing his agenda. I want a fan. I want a fan that feels exactly as I feel, and can put it in words, and facilitate my catharsis.
The night before Christmas has nothing on the day before a season after having gone 3-9 the previous year. FOOTBALL, WOO!
Nothing is better than honesty, and that video delivered.
Watching Minor run makes me want to throw my computer out the office window and start pounding beers as fast as I can open them. It's almost Saturday. WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I'm not ashamed to admit that I am crying right now.
Sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on, indeed.
Song and artist?, please.
Great job once again B-ri.
That is all.
Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter
At least according to Shazam on my phone.
I put up a tough front, but deep down I just want to be held.
A Better Son/Daughter is the title. I've heard more than one version of this song, but the one I think was the original was Rilo Kiley
It is worth the wait to load. Awesome video!
got me all misty and everything.
unreal song. love it.
When Minor high-steps and then bashes that safety from Penn State I almost stood up I was so pumped.
24hrs...24 mins!
'Murica & Footbaw: That's what Michigan Does
I laughed, I cried, I waited for buffering, I cursed hotel WiFi for keeping me imprisoned within the digestive tracts of dinosaurs, I waited some more...loved every second of it though. Go Blue!
That's even better than the All-In video. I thought Brian was initially torturing with an anti-highlight video. But, oh me of little faith. That was unbelievable. Great job Paul. Song and Artist?
cast of mgoblog. there's a study about the effects of this: http://bit.ly/2ZTHC
"Play hard and with great effort"
and start lifting, and apply to grad school to try to walk on. They should show that to the team at 3:15 tomorrow.
"But it is better to live here in sackcloth and ashes than to own the whole state of Ohio."
-- Lafcadio Hearn
How did it not include the Threet run against Wisco? Or is he shunned a la Dwight and Andy for leaving?
I don't think there were any McGuffie highlights in there either, were there?
In any case, I don't think Brian/Paul are shunning them, but it makes sense not to include any individual highlights of guys who have transferred to other programs.
Great video; now I'm even more excited for the season. Go Blue!
This is the best hype video ever. Kudos for thinking out of the box and not throwing together a highlight reel with a random and meaningless hip-hop song dubbed over it.
Just perfect. I cannot wait.
"Run and armpunt that, homeboy." -Brian 10/22/12
It's like Brian is reading my mind. How does he know I usually read the article before watching the videos?
I will now wear a tin hat to prevent mind control and punch a hole in the wall to release my pent up excitement for the upcoming season.
I love you, Paul.
This is the best hype video ever made, the perfect capsule of last season and the perfect expression of hope for this season.
When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing. -- Bo Schembechler
... pretty much sums it up. Good lord, I've never been so excited about something so potentially disasterous or so potentially thrilling. I'm foaming at the mouth like a madman.
Brian is kinda turning into Johnny. And Johnny is back. This is an embarrassment of riches for the Michigan fan.
I hope we are saying the same about our offense in oh about 24-27 hours from now.
Really good video. Some of those runs by Minor were unreal. He is almost impossible to tackle.
and is a perfect illustration why this blog is far and away the best college football site in the universe.
Everybody else chooses uptempo fratboy rock, or some slammin' hip hop, or even some young country for hype videos. Only the crew here could see that the drama in college football doesn't need to be pumped up, that the highs and lows are extreme enough, that you only to need to expose them, not amplify them.
I'm no opera fan, but the video seemed almost operatic to me, and that's the last thing you'd expect from a hype video.
MGoBlog, college football for the intellectual (or those who like to believe they are intellectuals)
That had to be among the best, most thoughtful, highlight videos I have ever seen. The music and the switch from black and white to color were great. Right up there with the Rose Bowl preview video when Michigan played Texas. What a great blog!
Worth every second it took to download it via the iPhone (we don't get good reception in the cubicle farm here).
Soon: read preview, drink my own drink(s), and wait til tomorrow. 24 hours to go!
I started watching this thinking ok what is Brian having us watch. But by the end I had goose bumps and just cannot wait until tomorrow!!!
Great job Paul and Brian.
"I figure if I can get two degrees from Ohio State, it might be close to Elliott’s undergraduate degree" - Brock Mealer
Co-sign to what has already been said about the video. Loved it when it jumped to color. Arrrrggghhh, is it Saturday yet?!?
Brian- Thanks for the excellent work this week. Now go ahead and pour yourself a big glass of scotch.
Only thing missing is the greatest hustle play of the year; Molk running down the interception return in the Notre Dame game. (at 30:45 of http://www.hulu.com/watch/38799/notre-dame-2008-michigan-vs-notre-dame)
Wanting something to be true does not make it true.
And it's now 24 hours until Michigan takes the field.
I want me some MICHIGAN FOOTBALL!
Recent recipient of the First Annual Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence
At first when I heard Rilo Kiley all I could think was, "seriously Brian?!" But it works. It works very well.
Galileo was also chastised.
I didn't go to work today and I have a trillion things to do there. Now I know why.
Thanks for that, it really is a perfect encapsulation of last year and a shaweet way to produce a hype video that is not a cliche. I don't miss 'Eye of the Tiger, or [insert gangsta rap formula song here] one bit.
I was pumped up, now more pumped up. I will not sleep again tonight. Game time cannot get here too soon.
Tick...tock...tick...tock...
you're really fuckin' on.
...the Canadians make up for it with their emotion and classic ice-dancing skill.
That video was oddly and inexplicably inspiring, and I want to watch it a hundred more times before tomorrow. WOOOOO FOOTBALL!
(I can't really watch it a hundred more times before tomorrow, though, because I have a high school game to work tonight, and it's at least an hour away at a school -- Monroe -- that just joined the conference. WOOOOO CONFERENCE EXPANSION! Except not a happy wooooo.)
Sportscenter.com raves: Sgt. Wolverine, "Michigan's biggest fan"!
let's hope next years hype video is all in color. I am also predicting it will not contain Sheridan.
I address myself to everyone, even to those who follow other football teams or who are simply seeking an answer to the fundamental questions of life and have not yet found it.

Screw it, the HD just won't load properly making everything choppy and broken.
Get that nap!
