Paulus to hold news conference at 10 am to announce his plans for the future. Heard it on the local news tonight (I stay in NC)
this may be of some local interest
and holds a conference to say he will need another conference after he has decided...
Wow. just wow. This is the weirdest thing I have ever heard. Is this guy for real? I'll have to check out some of his highlights. I head it on PTI today and was like, Great, that makes us look so desperate when were really aren't!
First of all, I don't know if this really makes us look all that desperate. We have open schollies and the kid is talented.
Also, are we not desperate? Tate's looking solid. OK. Denard could be no better than Faegin realistically, and then there's Sheridan. Maybe adding another guy to the mix isn't a bad idea.
I think he knows he wouldn't play he just want to get free practice for the NFL.
but he was one hell of a QB in HS, but I think it would take almost a miracle for him to see the field as a QB this year at U of M
Based on everything I've read, I see little downside to this.
..although to be fair, I don't wait to see a situation where I want to see upside from this; Forcier would mostly likely be injured in this case.
I really wouldn't mind him coming, but I doubt he would start. But hey, I bet even after 4 years of basketball and no football, he is still better at the spread than sheridan. If Tate and Denard get hurt, we can turn to someone who knows what they're doing.
Yeah i don't think there is any, this allows him to run the scout team, and everyone else to do their thing, maybe it will even free up Denard for PT in the slot for some packages I dunno.
I love this whole thing. Don't see much downside. He was a great HS QB. I can't help but believe that his experience in the limelight at Duke could help him adapt quicker than normal. If not - who cares? He won't see the field unless he's proven himself to be an asset. I for one love having one more guy battling it out to be the man behind center.
would turn down a chance to dress for even one Michigan Football game? This is more about resume than anything else.
One trip to the Big House and he's already committing to UM? If RichRod has convinced Paulus to sign up even though he has no guarantee of playing next year . . . then Rodriguez has to be recognized as a master salesman.
Paulus to UM? I'm giddy. This feels like some warped reality show.
I understand that he was a good spread QB coming out of high school and he would fit well in a spread system but let's break this down.
1. Realizes he isn't going to the NBA
2. Tries out with the Packers
3. They evaluate him and I would assume they told him he has a hell of a lot of work to do and a year in college would do him a lot of good.
4. He starts looking at colleges to play for and comes up with Michigan which runs the spread and has good young talent
For the last couple of years NFL teams have repeatedly said they aren't big fans of spread style QBs coming out of college but yet this guy is considering coming to play for the godfather of the spread option? Granted the staff has shown they can teach a kid how to throw a ball and throw it well but if I were him I'd go to a smaller school that runs a pro-style attack an gain game experience. I'll welcome him with open arms but this seems like an odd decision to me.
Yeah, I agree. If he really needs to learn so that he can compete at the pro level, wouldn't he head elsewhere? Where's the connection here that I (everyone?) am missing? It just doesn't seem to add up.
It's really the only place he could go where he has even an outside shot at starting, and would still get national exposure.
I don't know how much more exposure he needs.
I didn't really think of it that way. Still, I feel it either is or should be less about exposure and more about some much needed practice. I suppose killing two birds with one stone isn't so bad, either, tho...
Paulus is faster than Denard Robinson? And we didn't even know it...
never seen him play basketball before have you?
i know that was likely sarcasm, but i mean...have you seen paulus play? slow
He will add depth. And remember that nobody has been promised the starting job. I don't see Paulus starting, but he might move the team a little better than Robinson if his maturity helps any. Renting him for one year until they get another QB or two is a win/win situation.
And holding the conference right after "visiting" Ann Arbor bodes well for the chances of his going to UM.
I think everyone is forgetting he was the starting PG for 3 years at Duke. All that pressure? Him coming to UM to play QB? Same scenario different sport. Forcier is good..but put him in a big pressure situation right off the bat? Might fold. Palaus is at least used to the pressure. I wouldnt be shocked if he got some early playing time.
I would be 100%, thoroughly, completely, gobsmacked if he ever saw the field, and I would give up on the season right then and there, because it would mean we're properly and completely fucked at quarterback. I would be surprised as well if he ever even made a travel roster.
I realize the downside is basically zero, but so is the upside. As the absolute, best-case, tippy-top, highest of all high expectations, Paulus will be the fourth-string quarterback. He's not beating out Forcier. He's not beating out Sheridan. And he's not beating out Denard, who has basically the same credentials only hasn't been away from football for four years.
Let's not confuse "zero risk" with "guaranteed benefit."
Has taken quite a path to the point of actually saying he could get some early PT... As we all know, anything is possible with our sorry lot these days, but even if Gerg jr has some fb(football, not facebook) talent in the tank, there is no way he is better than Tate or DR this fall. Those two are fresh out of high school elite QB's. Paulus may have it still, but I think it will take more than three weeks in the fall to polish. For the record, I think there is a better chance of Threet re-enrolling than Paulus coming to UofM. It would be kind of cool though.......the Paulus thing, not the Threet thing. Although I did not hate Threet, he did the best he could with what he had.
Didn't the Packers tell Paulus he needs to gain 20 pounds? Hello free elite S&C coach Mike Barwis! If Paulus is playing for the scout team, he should get some opportunities to take some snaps under center and work on his drop back. He won't really get to learn in-depth a pro-style offense, but he'll get an opportunity to try to simulate a bunch of different offenses.
Nader Furrha and Jack Kennedy better be ready for a BATTLE! haha
There seems to be a lot of “rationalization” going on about this possible move. Remember...Just because you pour syrup on sh!t don’t mak’em pancakes.
What about French toast?
+1! French toast? Maybe..
Is this presser viewable on TV? I can't find it, but I also didn't expect to.
ESPN just reported that Paulus has been offered a scholarship. We'll see how this plays out
In addition to the practice time, he may also have heard of the legendary S&C program that Barwis has that attracts several NFL players in the offseason. If I were in his place, that would also be a positive for joining the Michigan program in addition to the football and academic opportunities here.
I love how some of you are so convinced that Paulus has no chance to see the field this year, even though his main competition for the starting job are two true freshman who have thrown exactly as many passes as he has in a collegiate football game.
If "passes thrown in a collegiate game" were any kind of a major factor at all, Nick Sheridan would be his major competition and not Forcier and Robinson. Straw man argument and a weak one at that.
