Palpatine Muppets Comment Count

Brian

we're back. woo!

For most of the first half I felt like Emperor Palpatine in Return of the Jedi:

The thing does end up blowing up, sort of like Michigan's 2009 season, but if one of UConn's coaches didn't turn to another and scream "It's a trap!" I'll eat my hat.

AND NOW THE MUPPETS:

And you can't have one without the other…

IT'S A TRAP.

I'm really beginning to enjoy the "pick yer poison" attack.

With shouts of vict'ry crying,
We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now, Hail!
Far we their praises sing
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring

March on to victory for Michigan,
And the Maize and Blue
Oh Varsity, We're for you,
Here for you to cheer for you.
We have no fear for you. Oh Varsity!
Now for a cheer they are here, triumphant!

March on to victory for Michigan,
And the Maize and Blue
Oh Varsity, We're for you,
Here for you to cheer for you.
We have no fear for you. Oh Varsity!
Now for a cheer they are here, triumphant!

if this analogy is true, then who is the Emperor? Is it RichRod or is it really Dave Brandon?

Yes, feed into your hate (of unsubstantiated rumors in local periodicals)... feel you growing stronger....

An excerpt from the screenplay:

(Rich Rod looks into the camera, his face suddenly solemn and knowing...)

RICH ROD:  Release the Kraken  Denard, the God of Third-Down Conversions!

I'm having a tough time working out the relationships here.  Let me know if I'm right, Brandon is the Emperor, Rodriguez is Vader, and Robinson is Skywalker--except he converts?  Does that make Forcier Darth Maul?

Where I'm really struggling is trying to figure out who the Jedi are played by--is it OSU?  I have a tough time thinking of Woody Hayes as Yoda.

Waiting for the Tate is a whiny pussy thread.

Too bad he's pouting, as it will be a miracle if DROB makes it through the season... had a couple of McGuffie flashbacks today.

There must be more going on than just losing his wings for RR to burn DG's redshirt today.

was a good day.  They won't all feel this good, but it's certainly rewarding after so many months of adversity and uncertainty.  A few thoughts:

1.  First and foremost, Denard.  We all knew, but it's still amazing to see it happen.

2.  I thought Mouton had a pretty solid game out there today.  He played like a senior, like a leader.  Roh and Martin also performed as advertised.

3.  I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Martavious will be fielding punts in South Bend next week.

4.  Hate to say it, but Anthony Fera looked much better than Brendan Gibbons today.  Here's hoping it was just one day and an incidental observation.

5.  I can honestly say that ever since halftime, Ms. Six Zero is officially infatuated with the word "Chanticleer."  And who can blame her.

6.  All in all, I must say that Floyd and Rogers exceeded my expectations.  Now, that's not quite the compliment it seems to be, because I wasn't expecting all that much... but for the first game they looked, hmmm... serviceable.

7.  The stadium is looking great, and sounding possibly better.  I will inform you all... A new T-shirt design was born sometime in the first quarter.

8.  And finally... the number one concern looking ahead is Carvin Johnson.  Like Cam, he looked comfortable and didn't seem too rattled.  We need as much depth as possible back there, esp. with Michael Floyd on the horizon.  The secondary will certainly get tested much harder next week.

All in all, it's been a day to be thankful for.  It was certainly not one of those run-of-the-mill games.  The national media is typically clueless, but they had one thing right:  Today was a HUGE game for Rich and the program in general.  And we got a show.  We'll all remember today for a long time, and that's all you really need to say about that game.

11 more glorious gamedays this fall.  This is what it's all about.  Thanks to all of you that I got to share it with today in some form or another.  GO BLUE.

"Chanticleer" is actually the name of a character in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales." He is from the Wife of Bath's tale. He is also a chicken, which is why the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers' mascot is a green chicken.

I'm going to enjoy this win today, but I'm interested in the news this coming week about Tate separating himself from the team.  It pisses me off, because we could really use his experience from last year as DRob's backup, since odds are about 100% he'll have to miss a quarter/half/game or so this year the way he plays.  It would be nice not to throw a freshman with a shaky grasp of the O out there.  But if he's going to act like that.....

I'm a little bothered by the student section's xenophobic rant against the fine denizens of the Emerald Isle...wait, they mean the "Fighting Irish?"  Yeah, crush 'em.

was that first drive (after our defense forced them to go three and out, impressive in itself at the time) when UConn seemed to be utterly clueless as how to defend against Denard. I like to think that their fans cringed every time he had the ball in his hands.

I have a good feeling about this season. Something feels...different. I'm betting 2010 is going to be a year to remember in Michigan football.

Thank You. For example, I got home a half hour ago (have been celebrating) and threw on the game b/c I dvr'd it. However, I know I can't last for the entire DVR. Or even first half with fast-forwarding. Instead, I just watched this. And it was awesome. Now I can go to bed. I, for one, think this was quite helpful.

Also: HOLY CHRIST DENARD. Jesus. And interior OLine. YES.

YES. I'm not saying we're back. I'm just saying, if we are healthy, stopping us on offense...isn't happening. That means you, OSU.

... and anyone else that was at the game or perhaps watching but failed to recognize:

At some point during the third quarter (I believe right before the red hat incident on the kickoff) we had a confirmed Space Bitches tee sighting during a closeup on the student section.  MGoShirt officially rocked on national TV again.  Word.

A good season opening win.  I'm really impressed that we did not turn the ball over.  This killed us last season.  The defensive line needs to be more agressive against ND next week. DROB probably ran a bit more than I would like to see him run.  We need one of the RB to step up and be the go to RB.  I think we'll give ND a good game and if we play hard we'll have a good chance of winning this game.  I hope Tate will be more involved with the team.

It's hours later, into Sunday, and the euphoria of our offensive performance hasn't worn off. Man, we played well. I just hope UConn was as good as we thought they were. I'm telling every non-M fan that asks me that UConn is/was tough, but we were just amazing. I mean...we were. God, Denard was awesome. Go Blue, let's all cherish this.

HAIL.
