Pac10 Bidding for Alamo Bowl
ESPNU says the Pac10 is trying to tie their 2nd ranked team into the Alamo Bowl. I have to imagine this means the Big10 isn't trying to renew the contract (especially if it means Big10 4th vs Pac10 2nd). Don't know if the BigTen would try to move into the Holiday Bowl to face another Big12 team instead, or go elsewhere.

The Pac 10, by far, has the worst bowl-deals of any of the BCS Conferences (except maybe the Big East)... they need (deserve) an upgrade
1st-Rose
2nd-Holiday (not on New Years... but a good bowl)
3rd- Sun (less than the Alamo... maybe equal to Champs - the Big 10's 5th bowl)
4th-Vegas (= Insight)
5th - Hawaii???
6th - ??

The emerald bowl is in there somewhere. God knows I would not want to play in a baseball park in San Fran. I believe it is Pac 10 and ACC (positions unsure).
Just for the record, the Alamo Bowl is going to be played in January starting this year. So it's looking to up it's prestige considerably.
When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing. -- Bo Schembechler

Strictly from a location standpoint I like the idea of swapping the Alamo Bowl for the Holiday Bowl. Plus domes suck.
I'm not a fan of swap just because I live 3 hours from San Antonio, but I do think we can all agree San Diego >> San Antonio. Going to the Alamo Bowl to watch the horrible officiating of the SunBelt refs and the "dear god just pitch it to Breaston" finale was pretty sweet despite the outcome.

Also, our conference has a history with the Holiday Bowl. For a long time, our #3 team played the WAC champion (back before the MWC was created). It was a weird setup, but the games were usually pretty good.
Rittenberg is making a case for the Texas Bowl, which I wouldn't mind either, as that's all of 20 minutes from my house. It's also being moved from the viewerless NFL Network to a better slot next year.
That said, with the rumors of the BigTen wanting in on the Cotton Bowl, I could see that as a more attractive bowl to satisfy BigTen alumni in Texas.

Well, think about it. MSU/Iowa vs. Cal/Arizona (from last year) that seems like a fair game to me cause the PAC 10 isn't a strong conference
Cool story bro, you should tell it more often...
the Big Ten might approach to fill the spot for our #4 team???
