Our APR has to get better than this:

Linky: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigten/0-3-370/Big-Ten-football-and-the-APR.html

"Here's how all 11 Big Ten teams fared in the APR report:

* Penn State 976
* Northwestern 973
* Ohio State 968
* Indiana 957
* Wisconsin 953
* Michigan 947
* Iowa 946
* Michigan State 931
* Illinois 930
* Purdue 926
* Minnesota 915"

Are we getting dumber, or is this our usual APR?

I was wondering how transfer affects this score. Does a transfer count against the graduation rate?

I know very little besides "graduating == good, not graduating == bad." Based on that, transferring can't help.

Here's what Wikipedia says. They're never wrong.

If an athlete transfers in good academic standing it dosen't count against the APR.
The graduation rate for the football team is only around 72% and for minorities somewhere in the 40's. That is appalling.
The top schools are in the 970's APR and graduate 90+ % and 75% to 85% for minorities. We should be ashamed of the current score. Don't assign basket weaving classes and make sure they get a degree, afterall only 3% will play on Sundays.

Wow, where to begin?

This is flat-out wrong. It counts against you no matter what (but it's even worse if they leave in poor academic standing).

The graduation rate for the football team is only around 72% and for minorities somewhere in the 40's. That is appalling.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that most of the 28% that didn't graduate from U-M in whatever timeframe the NCAA is using are either 1) playing in the NFL right now or 2) transferred (which again, hurts your rate no matter what). Lots of seniors, at all schools, disenroll the second semester to concentrate on the NFL combine.

The top schools are in the 970's APR and graduate 90+ % and 75% to 85% for minorities. We should be ashamed of the current score.

How many of these "top schools" are producing NFL players?

Don't assign basket weaving classes and make sure they get a degree, afterall only 3% will play on Sundays.

First, considerably more than 3% of our senior players go on to play in the NFL. Second, doesn't your "don't assign basket weaving classes" objection contradict your earlier lamentation about our "low" graduation rate? Isn't it a sign of academic integrity on our part if not everyone graduates?

Looks about right to me. Transfers always screw with the scoring - I think something like this happened to one of the SEC schools (Ole Miss) a few years ago because they switched coaches and a bunch of guys left. Of course, since they were closer to the cut-off, it cost them 1-2 scholarships. I think it is impressive where UM is in the hierarchy in spite of these losses.
