I don't know what Marvin Harrison is looking for as far as contracts go but I think his presence on the Lions roster would be a big help. His biggest strength is his route running ability which he could share his knowledge with Calvin. He also has has played with one of the best QBs of this era in Manning and could possibly use that to help develop Stafford with reading defenses and using his hot routes properly. The only negatives I see are a possible big dent in cap space, and he is injury prone at his age. The knowledge gained with his experience might be well worth the money. Any thoughts?.....
OT: Would Marvin Harrison help the Lions?
Those are not the only negatives. What's going to happen the first time he goes to the Esko Lounge?
A) Dude is ancient
B) Dude likes shooting people
Although Harrison is definitely past his prime I think adding him to the Lion's roster could only help. Calvin Johnson really emerged as an elite WR last year. This team needs a quick, technical, sure handed possession receiver to compliment Johnson. I think that Harrison would fill into that role nicely. As far as being a leader and what not, from what I've read about the guy he's not very vocal. I do not think that he would have a very big impact on the guys except for on the field. As a Lions fan I'd take him, to be honest I could care less if he's had some off the field issues.
I've also read that he's fairly quiet. My downside is that I hear that he's a whiner (not to the press, but in the locker room). I couldn't find any links to back that up, but an aging wide receiver who complains about touches would not help this team.
...than Kirby Dar Dar.
Where is Kirby Dar Dar?
EDIT: Running a free football camp for 8-18 year olds in Syracuse.
Are you spotting him both your knees?
I wouldn't mind him. I do believe he would get the touches he wants in Detroit as he'd be our legit #2 guy. Not to mention that even though he's not a vocal leader I'm sure he has insight that he could pass down to both Stafford and CJ.
No, nobody can help the lions!
The link just in case
Was that the FSU/tOSU baseball score they just showed?
This guy is a hall of fame reciever. If he never plays again he will go down in history as one of the top 5 WRs ever to play the game. Check out his stats. He isn't quick, or fast, but the guy is the best route runner in the NFL with great hands. The Lions could use him on third downs when they really need a completion. He doesn't complain in the locker room - I have no idea where that one came from. As far as the shooting scandal, no one knows if he was even in town when that happened, and given his track record I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. The law seemed to think he was "not guilty" and that's important.
You could sign him for pretty cheap right now, nobody has offered him since the Colts tried to reduce his salary. This is a no-brainer to me. Sign the guy and get him before someone else does.
If one wide receiver could help the Lions, I think one would have done it by now.
