The Helio Sequence and Dr. Dog
i refuse to even consider this a possibility
The Helio Sequence and Dr. Dog
Plushgun, Explosions in the Sky, Mates of State and Los Campesinos
LOVE Mates of State
A bit too cutesy for me.
Love Explosions in the Sky.
MF DOOM's new album-Born Like This
Well, of course, that's a given.
It would be awesome if David Cone always wore a mask like DOOM. I think it would help his rapping career.
I swear to god the only group from those listed above I've even heard of is Fleetwood Mac. I'm 37.
Same here and I'm still a youngin lol. I like hard rock and my share of country. Rock: Metallica, Judas Priest, Led Zepplin, Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Nickelback, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, and Ted Nugent. Coutry: Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Big n Rich, Jason Aldean, and Kenny Chesney.
I am definately in the minority when it comes to music for my age...but I don't mind! :D
Not into hip hop as much as people my age.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, Thelonious Monk was putting out records at least fifteen to twenty years before Fleetwood Mac even existed.
Pixies, Beta Band, Pavement, Spacemen 3, Neil Young.
Edit: Did anyone here get the live album Young released last year, Sugar Mountain: Live at the Canterbury House? Just found out the the performance was done on the Michigan campus.
have been frequent listens
oh yeah, and "I'm On a Boat"
This is the coolest band around right now:
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Explosions In The Sky
I got introduced to him by mgoblog. Woo eleven swans post!
Also, that Arcade Fire song is amazing in the "Where the Wild Things Are" trailer.
lol, yeah, it's weird...I'm not even from Michigan or a Christian, but I love Sufjan Stevens
Arcade Fire is awesome, you should check out 'Neon Bible' off of the album of the same name, it's without a doubt my favorite song.
Marquis and the F**k Lions.
Best song is "I can drink 40 ounces of beer in 2 minutes and 37 seconds."
Tv on the Radio
Animal Collective's new album is probably the best so far 1/4 into this year.
Other than that, been listening to a lot of Boys Noize, Walkmen, Cut Copy, and The Hold Steady. I always seem to be listening to Built to Spill and Pavement as well, but I'm sorta obsessed with that period in music.
I've been listening the hell out of 36 Chambers and the new TVoTR most recently.
Then there's Husker Du, the New Pornographers, Guided By Voices, Pavement and the Meat Puppets.
Favorite Husker Du record?
Flip Your Wig
Mine has been New Day Rising for a long, long time. Can't get enough of that record.
on GBV, Pavement, and the Meat Puppets. Also listen to the Silver Jews, Palace Music, Iron and Wine, Andrew Bird, and lots and lots of Tom Waits.
The Trews. The Replacements. Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. Glasvegas. Kings of Leon. Pendulum. (Old) Van Morrison.
Something like this:
Robyn Hitchcock/The Soft Boys
Guided By Voices
so is Guided by Voices.
Anyone listen to Fleet Foxes? I love their record. Lately, others include:
Steely Dan - Aja and Gaucho
The Hold Steady
oh and old Public Enemy
I'm going to have to second the Vampire Weekend. Also, the new All American Rejects CD is pretty solid.
I'm 47...young enough to enjoy a good Papa Roach's "Lifeline", old enough to consider the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated" a solid classic.
Justin Hayward - View From the Hill
Trace Bundy - Adapt
Moody Blues - Strange Times
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
so much really
New Found Glory
Armor For Sleep
Hit the Lights
I've been listening to Dire Straits a lot lately.
my morning jacket, band of horses, Frightned Rabbit, merle haggard, johnny cash.
by the way my morning jacket is easily the best live band playing today. check em out gentlemen
Is fucking fresh.
Powerage ac dc
pollard captain black vs. captn 6 pack with plastic rings round head
so that's 4...young liz phair--god I wish I went to lane tech HS. anything by the rain parade (the album or the ep)
OT: picked up a SHINER beer family reunion 6 pack tonight and as a fan of BELLS I have to say these texans have their shite and cripe together. The Kosmos Lager is most deaf. Highly recommended beer to ride this season out come rain come shine.
I forgot about those guys. I always had a weakness for the paisley underground.
Long Beach Dub All Stars/Sublime
Stuck in the 90s I guess.
If you like sublime, try out slightly stoopid. Similar sound and still a very talented band that mixes hiphop, reggae, acoustic, etc... Just like sublime.
Also I dig the raconteurs, jack white and brendan benson.
The Black Keys
Dan Auerbach (lead singer/guitar for black keys)
Kings of Leon
The new Dan Auerbach cd is easily my favorite record released this year.
and i love my morning jacket as well, although i haven't listed to them as much recently.
all things Avett Bros. + The Gaslight Anthem
Muse (Origin of Symmetry/BH&R/Showbiz/HAARP)
MF DOOM now aka DOOM aka Viktor Vaughn
This thread should appear every once in a while. I just added about eight bands on Rhapsody. Here are a few I didn't see:
The Airborne Toxic Event, Carolina Liar, and a minor throwback to some Dispatch.
Thanks again everybody.
No one mentioned Miley Cyrus?
Diamonds are forever_ Shirley Bassey
Round trip to Rio_ Pete Jacques
Brown Sugar_Mos Def
Black Republican_ Nas fet. Jay-Z
Grey Album_Danger Mouse
Super Fly and Freddy's Dead_ Curtis Mayfield
Be thankful for what you got_ William DeVaughn
Footsteps in the Dark_ Isley Brothers
Nice list, we have similar musical taste. I guess I need to check out Low, Cloud Cult and Skating Club. I haven't heard of those.
Low and Skating Club especially. I'm not a huge fan of Cloud Cult, but the question was about what I've listened to lately, so they would fall into that category.
Taken in context w/ your others I thought so. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't this Low.
I saw my brother's band open for them in Athens, GA in 1997. I think "When the Curtain Hits the Cast" had just come out. Alan and Mimi had a big argument backstage that night before they played. Good taste, Marcus. Now chill out.
for those of you who list vampire weekend - aren't you tired of them yet? i loved that album for about two weeks and i can't get back into it. i almost dislike it now actually.
I don't listen to it very often, so that helps. They do have a strange sound, that's for sure.
Their music doesn't wow me, but it makes me happy.
I still really like that album. They are unique enough that it's hard to get sick of because it's unlike the other stuff I hear. Kinda like the first album from The Strokes.
fair enough. not knocking them - i was just curious if anyone else felt the same.
any dave matthews band fans on the board?
Blue Sky Black Death-Late Night Cinema.
If you like hip hop, this album is truly a groundbreaking must listen. It is an instrumental album by two guys that make beats for WU.
geeked for the Devo reunion tour..
Listening to a compilation name Funk Soul Sister presently.
What Hancock albums are you listening to?
Quantic always kind of threw me -- the guy has a couple of tracks I really love ("Time Is the Enemy" comes to mind), but the rest of it is too white for me. I don't know. What albums of his do you like?
in the playa, however Head Hunter my favorite jazz-fusion album. After Miles,Herbie is next favorite jazz-fusion artist with Jaco Pastourouis (sp?) being next.
Checkout these tune by Quantic...Departure & Transatlantic. I find these two moreso jazz-fusion oriented...enjoy!
Manchild is great.
Have you heard that Japanese-only live album release, Flood? There's a badass solo piano version of Maiden Voyage on it that is by far my favorite version of that tune.
Thanks for the suggestion!
But not enough for the raise-the-glasses-shake-the-asses crowd.
- Cazals - Poor Innocent Boys (Shinichi Osawa Remix)
- Ben Mono - Jesus Was A B-Boy (Moulinex Remix)
- Crookers* - What Up Y'all
- Discotech's Remix of The Police's "Roxanne"
- Ratatat's remix of B.I.G.'s "Party & Bullshit"
For the more organic and "real" instruments crowd (aka Music That I Can't Make With Only A Keyboard and 3GB of RAM):
Eli "Paperboy" Reed and The True Loves- "Ace of Spades"
Phosphorescent - "Reasons to Quit"
Hot Chip feat. Peter Gabriel - "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa"
Brooklyn Funk Essentials - Big Apple Boogaloo
10CC - Dreadlock Holiday
Cute Lepers - Terminal Boredom
And I'm pretty sure that I'm the only MGoBoarder who still enjoys Peter Luts ft. Dominico "What A Feeling". But I'm also I'm pretty sure I'm the only MGoBoarder who still enjoys raves and x, so there's that.
The Black Keys and Every Time I Die. Fantastic combo for a sunny afternoon.
what's your favorite keys album?
i love magic potion, but attack and release is pretty good, too - and a little bit different for them.
