I tried to wait but UQ is slow tonight.
Nice start to this one. Go Porcello Go
spoiler alert: i linked this
I had a dream last night where the Tigers had a 3-0 lead...let's see how this ends.
Nightmare not dream if it included any of this
Crap. Please don't have a broken hand Miguel.
I didn't see it, just saw that Raburn was in now.
If Porcello gets ejected I'll be pissed
Absolute bull shit
What happened to Porcello? Was the pitch to Youkilis malicious?
No! Watch his reaction after he hit Youk. He did not mean to. This is just fucking bullshit. The UMPS fucking killed us. Youk is just a bitch. He threw his helment at Porcello like a baby back bitch.
Who the fuck throws a helmet at the pitcher?
Edit - I didn't see the Umps issue warnings, its quite possible they did. But I didn't think they'd toss a pitcher without a warning first.
No they did not. Just fucking bullshit. Now we are in are shitty bullpen. If we do not win Leyland is going to piss.
Anybody have predictions on the suspensions that will follow the game for these players?
Youk gets suspened and fined..NOOOOOO now a fcking tied game. What bullshit.
Youk is looking at 4 or 5, Porcello 1 or 2 if any
What the hell, our 2 best players starting the game are now out. This sucks
Warning or not, the call was BS. I hope the Tigers are pissed about this and demolish the shitsox.
TOO fucking late. Man i am so pissed.
triple post was necessary to convey how awful Lambert is.
What the hell is Leyland thinking? Putting Chris Lambert in? What the fuck. Chris Lambert. Wasn't enough to give up 100 runs to the Twins eh?
Who else is going to put in. JL basically gave this game up because the UMPS bullshitted us.
I say it every game, Leyland is an AWFUL in-game manager
How long is he going to leave him in there? Until it's 6-3? Stupid old moron.
How long is he going to leave him in there? Until it's 6-3? Stupid old moron.
I don't think this multiple posting thing is working out too well for you...
Yeaah fuck you Terry F. Get the fuck out.
EFFING BULLSHIT. Porcello gets thrown out because youkolis charges the mound?
Youkolis should be suspended for a week.
And Francona has the balls to bitch about a call after this? WOW
Did I mention that Lambert sucks? Faced 4 guys, got none out. PLEASE JUST GO AWAY AND NEVER COME BACK.
Who the hell else is going to eat 4 or 5 innings today after almost all the bullpen was used yesterday
The man who was calmly engineering the most despicable piece of managing I have ever seen gets his early shower. the umps played right into his hands. ahh everyone on the sox is so whiny and obnoxious and their fans eat it up. so annoying
The MLB Network people love Porcello after that.
What a terrible way to lose a game. Nice work MLB. Keep your ratings up for the $OX fans when they are about to be blanked by Rick Jonathan Pocello.
I think the Tigers bats will wake up and tear the Sox apart. Tomorrow, the cockiest idiot on the team is pitching: beckett.
Except that he is really really good, and Galarraga isn't. I hope you're right, but don't count on it.
Lambert needs to hit Big Poppy, get under the Sox skin a bit
Laimbeer used to do it to Bird and Chief and whinny ass Ainge
Wow apparently I am missing a lot by watching The Empire Strikes Back on Spike.
That's right Maggs. Go get 'em.
That's right Maggs. Go get 'em.
Well I just became a semi-yankee's fan tonight.
In other news, will we EVER score with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs?
PORCELLO'D. FUCK BOSTON. I FUCKING HATE BOSTON. GO TIGERS!
This is a sad, sad substitute. Fuck Francona, the Sox, and every one of their degenerate fans.
What else are we supposed to do? It's not like Nolan Ryan is in the bullpen, shucking sunflower seeds. Somebody has to go out and take one for the team. This game is over.
Those are fucking strikes. That is bullshit.
I never thought I'd see the day where I actively wished Jason Grilli back to the Tigers. There isn't anybody else in the farm system who can achieve less than a 20 ERA in the bigs?
lowell is even better than youkilis. stupid rich teams with their benches. how are the sox any better than new york? they try to be just like them, except they have a lousy stadium and they're not nearly as cool.
i'll turn to some contrived optimistic psychology: well, at least we'll have verlander going on thursday. 99 with movement towards righties should be fun for our friend kevin. and porcello is still one absolute stud of a prospect. they're just jealous!!
I’m usually fair to the umps……But throwing out Porcello basically gave the Sox the game.
Also, the home plate ump is calling 2 inches off the plate for their Starter. Lambert isn’t getting the generous zone.
Dollars to Donuts, Leyland finds a way to get ejected tonight and fined tomorrow.
but if Youk doesn't charge the mound, no chance in hell does anyone get ejected. But he does, Porcello clearly wants nothing to do with it, since he had no intent, and gets tossed anyway. That's Grade A Ultra Premium Horse Shit. Now the Tigers basically forfeit this game by giving it to their craptacular bullpen in the second inning.
To conclude, Fuck Boston and every member of Red Sox Nation.
you my friend are absolutley right.
A player gets hit by a pitch in the back at least once every game on avg. RARELY does the pitcher get ejected.
Unbelievable that Youkilis charging the mound and throwing his helmet turns a 3-0 deficit into a sure victory. Way to punish the effing behavior of a 13 year old.
Grade A Ultra Premium Horse Shit is right.
If I could, +10, you deserve it. Fuck em all
This strike zone fucking bullshit. Those are 2 inches off the plate.
Game is not over, offense needs to do a pick-me-up. Win this one and it will be one of those watershed games. Maybe.
Kevin Youkilis = Fucking douche. I hate him and his giant chin. Seriously, who throws their helmet at a 20 year-old kid? What a fucking douche
It is already on Youtube.
Tigers pitchers should hit every batter from now on. Better yet pitch directly at the umpire's head.
As if we don't hate the ump enough, Brian O'Nora is from Youngstown, Ohio.
Lambert has seen his ERA drop from 27 to 17 the last couple innings
Looked like BJ Penn taking down that douche bag.
That picture is on the main page of si.com right now. It's beautiful.
It seems as if the Tigers offense totally turtled after the incident. Great job guys.
Porcello's mistake was that he threw at the first batter he faced in that inning. I have no problem with him plunking a BoSox hitter, especially with Miggy having been thrown at two nights in a row. He just needs to be smarter about it. You can't throw at the first batter you face in an inning with your first pitch. You're begging the umps to toss you out of the game.
Youkilis should be suspended a game or two for throwing his helmet, imho.
I agree and I also think Porcello threw at Youkilis intentionally. First pitch, fast ball, middle of the numbers.
NOOO fuck no come on.
god he is the ugliest-looking man i have ever seen.
You ain't new to this blog. you are the one who has followed Tater and the South Florida Posse around from blob to blog making their life misery.
If umpires could be counted on to behave as stupidly as this one has, wouldn't every team have a player charge the starting pitcher? It's a hell of a good bargain for the hitting team, one batter for one starting pitcher.
To add to the long list of reasons why I'm not an MLB manager, this is what I'd do in protest: pick a player, any non-pitcher (so you don't mess up a real pitcher's stats), insert him into the game, and tell him to walk every single batter.
Run the score up. By midnight it would still be the second inning, and the score would be 400-3 or something, then I'd pack it up and leave the ballpark without a decision.
Don't even dignify the event with a real game.
Yeah, worst idea ever.
I have tons of ideas worse than this one. I'm the Bob Dylan of bad ideas. They'll reissue bootleg compilations of my bad ideas long after I'm dead and gone.
Is it only me, or does Alex Avila kind of look like Jack Parkman from Major League II?
Kevin Youkilis is a punk bitch who thinks the world revolves around him. He whines about everything and acts like a baby whenever he makes an out. All he cares about is himself and his precious stats.
Didn't see it mentioned yet; Youk is from Ohio. Though he attended U of Cincy, he clearly has Buckeye tendencies.
UQ is not afraid to Fuck.This.Board's.Shit.UP.
Leyland will wait until the post game presser to Fuck.Shit.Up.
"This is Crawford’s second major incident of the month, after Friday’s egregious blown call and subsequent outburst against Arizona manager A.J. Hinch. While Crawford has yet to sink that low during this game — the night is still young as I type this — the crew’s decision to toss Porcello after he hit one batter with a three-run lead and no warning in effect was incompetence at best and cowing to a hostile Fenway crowd at worst. Crawford’s involvement in two on-field blowups, both featuring bad umpiring decisions, calls into question his fitness to umpire major league games, especially ones with playoff implications like Tuesday’s."
Though the night went horribly wrong, I enjoyed ranting with you, my fellw Tiger fans.
Sox/Mariners just underway.
Look, maybe it wasn't actually intentional, but the ump is going to assume it is when Cabrera gets hit in the top half and then in the bottom half you nail their first baseman. It might not be right, but you have to see why Youkilis would think it was on purpose and why the umps might agree.
Besides, I'm sure my White Sox will comply and lose again tonight. Something called D Fister is pitching for Seattle tonight according to the gamecast. Because I've never heard of him, he hasn't started against the Sox before, which means the Sox are good for maybe two runs against the guy.
As an umpire, I see the guy's point. Pro pitchers don't hit batters all too often. Two guys hit in an inning on separate teams is a pretty rare occurrence, especially when it's by accident. Safety and all that.
But now that I've gotten the company line out of the way, I loved when pitchers would blow batters off the plate and peg them in the hip. Pro baseball (and in turn pro sports in general) have fallen so far from their original game styles that sometimes I just enjoy a good brawl. They should pay all athletes less, stop having cities pay for stadiums (woo! modern socially acceptable socialism!), and get tougher.
I kinda miss when the players were allowed to police the game. Hell, when the Sox had four guys get plunked on Saturday, and one of them had one go right at his head before he got plunked later in that same at bat, I wanted one right in Sizemore's ear. It's always been part of the game, but at some point the powers that be decided that brawls and beanball wasn't ok anymore and let the umps shut it down. Maybe it's good for the game but I don't have to like it.
And as expected, the Sox did jack against the starter they hadn't seen before, never mind the gajillion walks they drew. But they got to former Sox reliever "Pirate" Aaaaaaarrrrrrdsma.
That many plunked in an inning is deserving of whatever policing is possible. You throw inside once. If you miss him it's your fault. Game should move on. Never more than once a game per team either. If one team did it first, other team gets to retaliate. End of story, unless the first team was retaliating something else, in which case the return beam ball better end in a brawl with ejections, clearing the air and ending the feud for the night.
I'm a Aardsma fan actually. Saw him play a couple seasons at Rice. I always laugh about the Penn State baseball blog listing him as an alumni of there despite him only being their his freshman year.
Aardsma was awesome for the Sox for about a month in 2007. That was their "7 guys who throw real hard" bullpen that they tried, thinking that Don Cooper could fix four or five guys at once. That, uh, failed. I think they thought after harnessing Matt Thornton's stuff the previous year and having acquired Mike MacDougal in '06 as well and having him pitch well for them then as well, they thought they could fix everyone.
Although that year resulted in one of the funniest interview questions/answers I've heard. One of the parade of failed relievers was Ryan Bukvich, and in an interview the Sox pre/postgame guy asked him something like "most of the fans aren't familiar with you yet, what kind of pitcher would you say you are". His response: "uh, right handed"
They should pay all athletes less, stop having cities pay for stadiums (woo! modern socially acceptable socialism!)
I'm not a fan of using tax money to fund stadiums, but I wouldn't consider it a form of socialism. Actually, it's almost the opposite - government giving up some of its resources to help private individuals (the team ownership) make a profit. It's corporate welfare.
Okay, I think socialism isn't quite the word I'm looking to use. How about government sponsored corporate bailout of non-essential (or too-big-to-fail) services. (Note: let's not discuss too-big-to-fail as Brian has stated he wants to avoid political discussions.)
While I like the idea of forcing teams to secure their own stadiums, I guess I could see the drawbacks, as the city becomes the only logical owner of a old stadium in most cases when a team moves.
But, an example of how I disagree: in no way would I call the soon-to-be-built Florida Marlins stadium to be "helping maintain a profit." They could play in a minor league park and not sell out. Now they're getting a huge, tax-payer funded baseball-only park to celebrate their already meager attendance and team mediocrity. That seems like a waste of tax-payer funds.
Oh, and now seeing that Cabrera was hit in Monday's game and Youkilis was hit in the bottom half of that inning too? Yeah, there's no way in hell that Youkilis or the umps aren't going to interpret that as intentional, whether it was or not. I don't blame him for charging the mound -- the second day in a row that he gets plunked in the same inning as Cabrera, he's going to think that it was on purpose, plain and simple. And the umps are going to think the same thing.
On the bright side, the Tigers could bring Porcello back before his turn in the rotation if they want because he didn't exactly have a full turn. That is, if he doesn't get suspended. But even then, they could appeal, try to stall the suspension as long as possible, and then let him serve it as they want to limit his innings anyways. If they can stall so that his suspension bridges into September when the roster expands, they're golden, as the suspension is then effectively meaningless.
This was posted on the Freep article. Too good not to post
It was total bullshit. I was at the game booing Youk, because he's a giant fucking douchebag. Tossing Porcello without a warning? WTF is that? God I hate fucking RedSox fans. 10 feet away from catching Granderson's HR though.
This sounds like a whole shitload of bullshit.
