what a win. I have to admit, when they went down 5-0 I didn't think they could come back. But man, Mr. Thomas walk off to deeeeep center.
to play football, not to play trumpet
Every time I think that Clete Thomas needs to shorten his swing and stop trying to be a home run hitter, he does something like this...
He does need to shorten that swing a bit still, but I will take it tonite!
Yea, after that first half inning I was feeling like Chicken little...good to see I'm just irrational as always.
I think it's completely understandable that you were feeling "chicken". I was too. The Tigers have rarely been able to dig themselves out of a hole of any depth (and 5 runs is certainly deep enough). I had no faith that we could generate enough offense to overcome 5 runs plus whatever else they put. Thankfully I was wrong.
The Tigers pulled off a White Sox. Get down by a lot of runs, and then storm back.
your 2009 Baltimore Orioles! Here to save your favorite contenders from sliding in their pennant races! We'll be here all season! See ya at the ballpark!
Could this series at home, against the O's, with these pitching match-ups, come at a better time?
is a machine. How many pitchers in baseball would have made it through 8 innings after throwing 25 in the first while giving up five runs on six hits? Simply amazing. Also, Clete has quickly become one of my favorites. Very good defender too.
I am not disagreeing with you but clete ticked me off on the Triple vs. the Tribe. Clete clearly,(at least to my blind ass), took his eye off the ball as he jumped for it, costing Porcello a W.
He was scared of the wall. That pissed me off too.
+1 for you sir, I was furious. Part of me thought it should be considered in error.
If you watch the replay he jumped over where the ball was and to the right of it.... he had absolutely no idea where it was.
Verlander, very very good indeed. I'm just sad he didn't get the win for tonight. He deserved it.
Also, who would've thought old Marcus Thames still had some good fielding left in him?
Well, he's only 32 (and has played less than 500 career games). I would hope he could still field.
Thames and good fielder should never go in the same sentence unless it is sarcasm.
Big W, especially considering losing to the Orioles is a big no-no. I'm excited to see Washburn take the mound tomorrow - it will be nice to have a lefty who's (knock on wood) reliably solid!
are actually pretty good with some good young hitters like Luke Scott, Nick Marakais(sp?), Matt Weiters, etc. They don't have the pitching to be a true playoff contender. That should change in a few years once they have the top pitching prospects get called up from the minor league. I believe 3 of them are among the top 25 overall prospects in the MLB.
that you didn't include Adam Jones on that list of young O's hitters. I like his game.
Mr. Verlander was able to keep his composure.
Great game Mr. Verlander!!
