Yes

Hiring him and picking Darko are the only decisions Dumars has made that I have disagreed with. Curry didn't have any idea how to coach. Good guy. Hard worker. Terrible with rotations, strategy and player control.

Darko

to say you disagreed with him on that to me is B.S. Every single executive wanted Darko. They had massive erections for the European big man. It was determined that with that draft (which may be best in history of draft) that Lebron was #1 and Darko was #2....if the pistons had #3 pick we'd have bosh, wade, or carmelo

He knows his opinions better than you do. And stop making excuses for the darko pick, just because he was highly rated by gms doesn't excuse it from being one of the 5 worst picks in history.

He is entitled to his

He is entitled to his opinions; however, to say you disagree with the decision that means he should have been against it from day 1. Can you really say you didn't want darko when the pistons got the #2 pick from Memphis(i think?). It was a bust yes, but to say it was a something you disagreed with Dumars then you have no idea what the GM's were thinking then. Every scout loved Darko.

I"ll say it...

I didn't want Darko. I wanted Carmelo. I was flabbergasted that Joe picked Darko. As for Wade, didn't he go at number seven that year? He was not a consensus second pick. Many, though, thought Carmelo was.

I thought Carmelo was a certain second pick until about a week before the draft. Carmelo even thought he was going to the Pistons until they picked Darko. According to reports, he was really, really PO'd at Joe for "lying" to him.

I have long forgiven Joe for the Darko Debacle, but I still wonder if they could have squeezed another championship out of the next year against San Antonio if they had taken him.

What made the Darko pick so bad was...

witnessing the play of DWade,Melo and Chris Bosch during the college regular season. As a matter of fact, and more to the point,Melo and DWade play during March Madness made it a no brainer with alot of us wondering...how the hell could this unknown TOP what we witnessed?

I recall a certain spartan & Michigan poster saying to me the sf position will never bring a championship. That trust Joe D & Sam Washington. They know talent when they see it. That someone like Darko skills will take you to the promise land...yeah right! I think Kobie & Pierce shot a hole through that theory.

Worst pick of this decade...yeah,even worst than Kwame Brown imo...

Maize & Blue...nothing better!

This is the internet and not

This is the internet and not a place for facts. Just because you say something smart/logical/backed up by history....doesn't mean you are correct. Anyone else would have taken Darko with the 2nd pick if they were in the pistons draft spot.

Draft busts happen. Get over it. Move on.

Are you a park ranger at Yellowstone? Say hi to Yogi Bear for me.

I'm not saying busts don't

I'm not saying busts don't happen but to say it is all dumars fault is crap. Everyone wanted Darko. Every GM would have picked him at the #2 spot. He just got the shitty luck of the draw

I agreed with that deal then,

I agreed with that deal then, and I still do now. Dumars gave up an old player with four years and $50 million on his contract for an old player in the final year of his deal. It hurt the Pistons in the short-term (2008-09) but could pay major dividends down the road.

I've heard the argument that

I've heard the argument that he was hired precisely for this reason. If you know you're going into a season that's going to be disappointing and rebuilding-y, it makes sense to hire a short-term players' coach who can conveniently be fired when you think you can assemble a team that sucks less.

I'm not sure I get this.

I'm not sure I get this. Didn't Flip have one year left on his contract when we fired him last year? Why didn't we just keep him around for that one more season if we were going to turn around and shit-can Curry after one year?

That being said, I'm so glad to hear Curry's gone -- dude had no fucking clue what he was doing.

Supposedly, like the Rick

Supposedly, like the Rick Carlisle firing, the decision to let Flip go was made at the request of Bill Davidson.

Yeah, it doesn't all the way

Yeah, it doesn't all the way make sense to me either. I guess the rational is based around team culture. It seems to me that having the same coach (Flip) go from leading a perenial conference champ to leading a borderline playoff team could be more damaging than bringing in a new guy specifically for the mediocre year(s). Said new guy can serve, if not as a scapegoat, at least as someone who can bracket the crappiness.

Plus...

...if Curry ends up being wildly successful, you've started grooming your coach of the future. If not, you can let him go at no further loss.

He's not a player's coach

Can't remember where I read it, but Hamilton hated the guy. Especially for announcing to the whole team he was moving Rip to backup before he told Rip.

Now the Bulls just need to take a page out of Detroit's playbook...

Langauge evolves, and "begs

Langauge evolves, and "begs the question", now has more than one meaning. Filthy in "filthy rich" would be another example.
How a about "crib"? You many not like it, you may disparage it, but the times they are a changin.
