OT: Percy Harvin Talks to UF Recruits
Well, pencil in multiple 5*s committing to Florida within a week. Honestly, if you want to play football, clearly you can go all Mario Manningham and get booty while prepping for the NFL.
can I start playing football now? No one told me football == getting some.

The statement is funny with regards to the proximity of Joe Paterno yelling next to it.
+1
I don't want to undermine Harvin's douchebaggery, but I'm pretty sure there's no rule forbidding contact between alums and recruits. In fact I think it's quite common for coaches to use their famous former players to sell kids on the school.
It's not so much just the fact that Harvin said things to recruits, which seems kind of wierd/fishy, it's more about what Harvin talked about.
I can only continue to reference the fact that I live in an onion factory.
I'm almost positive that it's illegal. I could be wrong, but I don't think you're allowed to have someone else help you with recruiting, especially celebrities, or former players. If this was organized for that purpose, then I'm pretty sure it's illegal.
If Harvin happened to be there working out, and said some things to them, then there's nothing that can be done. This is a lot different.
Tom VanHaaren I TomVH on Twitter I U Recruit I Email
Besides, I'm sure Lane Kiffin has already reported it
I agree. Didn't USC almost get in trouble with this a few years ago when they had Reggie Bush talk to that stud RB recruit from Louisiana (currently blanking on his name)?
i only respect other superfans
I'm pretty sure there's no rule forbidding contact between alums and recruits.
It's just the opposite. Alumni (and anyone else who supports the athletic program, including ticketholders) are forbidden from assisting in recruiting.
I realize that with alumni you get into the whole messy booster thing. But what about recently, reading about Mark Bihl, the former Michigan center, talking with a recruit from his town who was considering Michigan? This is more what I had in mind
The NCAA allows some leeway if the alum in question has a longtime relationship with a recruit. I think there's also some kind of loophole for ex-players if they are on the school's campus. (A lot of basketball players do go back for summer open gym sessions.) But I think they can't participate in an official recruiting session (conducted by the coach), or something along those lines.
He told them how to get away with smoking pot. Surely that is some kind of ethics violation.
A person can't violate something they don't have.
that Chuck Norris can.
I can only continue to reference the fact that I live in an onion factory.
Yep its a violation, usc did the same thing with Joe Mcknight and Reggie Bush, McKnight even talked about it live on tv during his announcement.
It was all later said to be a slip of the tongue, that he didn't mean what he said. What, you don't believe them either?
Current Smug rating: "lethal"
Seems to me that most of the team is becoming thugs, all the arrests and such. Just, Tebow and Meyer get all the P.R. If this sort of thing happened at Michigan, all the arrests, Harvin et al, the mainstream media would be all over it, namely our chums at the worldwide leader.
Oh don't worry, he only recruited half of the students who racked up the 24 arrests, the others all came from Zook. [/sarcasm]
Can't find the press release he issued to justify all the infractions, I have never rolled my eyes so hard.

"They're going to have to learn about us, OK? Let them try to stop a pro-style offense, which has multiple personnel groups and multiple formations. Let's see how they are going to do. They've had their advantage because I've come into recruiting late. Well, now it's Xs and Os time. Let's see who has the advantage now."
you probably shouldn't talk so poorly about your future coach! haha

I'd still welcome the next Harvin to Michigan. If any of our players choked a coach, Barwis would eat him.
"He has an uncanny ability to get kids to believe in him and believe in themselves. He doesn't do it with smooth words. He's not smooth. He does it by being the same genuine person day after day." ~Jason Whitlock on Brady Hoke
Sounds like Harvin missed his chance at spending 5 minutes with a certain someone.
No question, Jim.
Unless all this occurred after his five minutes with Jesus Tebow...Maybe before that he was mailing pipe bombs to nun's homes and eating babies all while rooting for OSU and masturbating to videos of natural disasters....

Didn't do any favors for the school?
It would seal the deal for me...
