I realize that the majority of MGOBloggers are Red Wings fans, but, being a Chicago guy, I'm finally excited about the possibilities without feeling way too unjustified. The Blackhawks just went up 3-2 over Vancouver with the series coming back to Chicago and could/should meet the Red Wings in the conference finals, if the Hawks can hold on and if the Wings can buy a call/beat the Ducks (don't worry you guys aren't the only ones noticing how bad the calls are in your series). In terms of great sports rivalries, this ranks right up there. Even though I'm scared to death of the Red Wings in the playoffs, I think it would be absolutely great to see. Any thoughts from Wings fans out there?
OT - NHL Playoffs
Detroit-Vancouver or Chicago-Anaheim not so much.
It's they way it should be. And if the Hawks upset Detroit, I would certainly root for them against any Eastern conf team. Would love to see 2 Original 6 teams, so the Bruins have to turn it around against the Canes.
I love this time of year!
I am a Hawks fan myself and I am happy about everything - not only the youth and potential of the Hawks but more importantly, the renewed hockey passion in Chicago and elsewhere. I was at the bar last night with a few buddies in GR for the Hawks game and the place was actually glued to the game. I grew up playing hockey and played through college and it's good to see hockey starting to get back to where it was in the early 90's. It's starting to happen because major market teams (CHI, DET, BOS, NYR, VAN) are in the mix and the dominance of Crosby and Ovechkin don't hurt either.
Back to the Hawks - trade Kane!
Agreed, a Hawks-Wings series would be classic. It's great to see teams in great hockey markets that were only held back by cheapo owners like Chicago and Boston finally able to contend.
My sentiments exactly.
First round of the playoffs was kind of dull but the second round has been excellent. The only series that hasn't been really good is Boston-Carolina. A Chicago-Detroit conference final would be great for hockey and it would truly ignite the rivalry.
look for Boston to bounce back and steal their series away from the 'canes. They're far better than they've played so far.
So what are the chances? I don't see either getting past the Caps or Pens though.
Ah hell, you never know - I thought this was the year the Sharks might do something, with McClellan as coach instead of Wilson.
Caps are up 4-3 on Cindy Cros and Co. Good to see.
I'd love to see the Hawks face the Wings as well... because the Wings will kill them! heh
Seriously though, it would be cool. It would be a pretty intense series.
Overall, I think the NHL playoffs have been great as usual. Too bad no one can watch it.
Vancouver shoot themselves in the foot again.
I want the Hawks to win, but Vancouver really needs to stop taking bad penalties and letting Chicago get back into the game.
Both games tonight have been very exciting, back and forth hockey. I am a happy fan, right now.
good night, capitals. have a nice off-season!
