OT-Mickey Redmond announcing the Wings

Let me start w/ the voices of the Red Wings are Great. I was driving home yesterday and listened to Ken Kal and Paul Woods for the first period and had Mickey Redmond and Ken Daniels on FSN to watch the rest.

Anyway, I was saying to some friends from Ohio (they know nothing about hockey and claim to not care) how Mickey Redmond is hilarious to listen to b/c he is like listening to a fan watching hockey b/c he gets all pissed off at the refs for soft calls, bad calls, etc. With six seconds left the Wings deflected an Anaheim shot into the crowd and Redmond says on TV, "You have got to be Shittin me!" I rolled and it was a perfect example for our sheltered friends from Ohio.

Bring on the Blackhawks!

That's the second time I've heard Redmond quoted as "you have got to be shittin' me!" at the end of the game. I was watching the CBC broadcast because they are about seven seconds ahead, so I can switch to FSN if I want an instant replay or if I miss something. It's too bad I have to sacrifice Kenny D and Mickey.

Too bad last night was the end of their year. It'll be nice to have the NBC games because of the HD, but I can't stand the VS announcers. Hopefully CBC will carry all of the Wings weeknight games.

If you weren't a Wings fan, Redmond would drive you crazy. This is the main reason why I hate homer announcers on either side of the coin.

My favorite thing is when Mickey and Ken go off on a tangent about the merits of wood sticks versus composite ones.

I think they were a bit more homer-ish this series than normal. I think they were frustrated because they really felt like the Wings were the better team (Babcock also said he felt that Detroit outplayed Anaheim in every game, even the ones they lost). I kind of agree.

dominate in every single statistical category. they outshot the ducks every single game. probably most surprising is that detroit out hit them along with getting more scoring chances, winning nearly 60% of faceoffs, etc. etc.

The only thing the ducks did better was convert power plays. the wings penalty kill still needs to get better, but the stood tall on the 5 on 3 kills.

They were indeed more homer-ish for this series because it was versus Anaheim! The only way it gets worse is versus the Avs, and the only thing bigger than THAT is Michigan-OSU!

I love listening to Mickey but agree - if I wasn't a Wings fan, I'd have to find another station to watch the game on. I'll tell you though, if you think Mickey is bad try some of the East Coast hockey announcers. I've seen a few games on the Madison Square Garden network and those guys are straight up jackasses.

Yeah, Redmond and Daniels are total homers, but at least they're funny homers. They kick up the bias in the playoffs.

BUT: They also will call out Wings players who make mistakes and laud players on the other team that execute great plays.

Some other homer announcers will not say ANYTHING negative about their team nor anything positive about the other team.

So as homerism goes, they're in the middle of the pack, IMO.
