OT: Michigan bar in Atlanta?

Hello all - I'm moving to Atlanta in a couple of months, and it's dawning on me that I'm going to have to exert effort to find a place to watch Michigan football. I've lived in Chicago my whole life, so outside of the minor BTN kerfuffle a couple of years ago (which saved me from having to watch The Horror, I suppose) I've pretty much always just been able to turn on the TV and watch.

Any advice on a good Michigan bar in Atlanta? I'll be east of the city, in Decatur, if anyone knows of a good place near there.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The Line at 285 is pretty good on gameday but that is West of 400 off of 285, but still relatively close, that is probably your best bet. They are the rowdiest bunch in the area. The only other I am aware of is Pepperoni's up in Alpharetta, which is more family oriented but they do have great pizza.

Please consider the impact to the environment before printing this e-pinion!

Jivas,
I'm part of the UM club of Atlanta - check out some of the upcoming events at the website. The Line (as mentioned earlier) closed down, so now we watch the games at Stats (downtown) and Pepperoni's (Alpharetta area). Feel free to contact the board through the website if you have any more questions. Too bad you missed the wine tasting with Charles Woodson last month

for SEC country. Or so the locals will tell you.

Alumni club may be best bet to find a friendly drinking hole. FWIW, there's a Taco Mac in Decatur where you can probably catch any game in the universe on a given Fall saturday.

We've been in Atlanta six years. Ex-Chicago dwellers ourselves. Warning: get ready for some spectacular SEC triumphalism 365, and for some serious aggravation with craptactular ACC matchups on ABC.

Fulmer - great info. That Taco Mac might be my go-to place for non-nationally televised Bears games and the occasional Bulls game when I have time to catch one. And I'm aware of the SEC nonsense that I'll have to deal with (although I'm hoping to confine myself to the Emory/Decatur area as much as possible), but I'm sure I'll be endlessly annoyed anyhow. The upshot is that my program takes 5 years, so if I find myself still willing to deal with the cold weather, I'll probably be back in the midwest soon enough.

ATL - I'll definitely plan to join for a game event or two as I acclimate to my new home (STATS looks *very* convenient for where I'll be). I've also bookmarked the Atlanta UM Club site and will look for more info.

Thanks again.

STATS is the best place really.

They reserve a large room and have two projection screens, multiple smaller flat panels, as well as free parking, even if you leave your car overnight. There is a good turnout there for every game.

Pepperoni's has more of a family feel I think. More kids.

I've been in Atlanta my entire life, except for when I was at Michigan, and everyone is right. No one here gives a crap about the Big Ten.

I went to Emory after I graduated from Michigan. I would watch Michigan games at Famous pub. It is in Decatur near the Emory campus on Druid Hills in the Toco Plaza. It is kind of a local dive, although Emory students hang out there occasionally, but they have a lot of good screens and they'll always put Michigan games on one of them (and even though the owner went to Michigan State he is still a good guy). Most of the people there are SEC/ACC but you can usually find a few Michigan fans. It's more convenient than driving downtown and dealing with Atlanta traffic/parking etc.

Taco Mac in Decatur is the best bet. Better food, better environment. Famous is ok, but the wait staff is spotty and I had trouble some nights getting them to turn on the Michigan game.

Wow this is pretty wild, I too am attending Emory for Grad School. I prefer Taco Mac, only because of its 100+ beers on tap. Do not expect a television with sound though, especially if your team is not A) playing against southern team, or B) Not ranked in the top 10. Great beer selection though, if it matters.

I hadn't checked this thread for months after I created it, so I hadn't seen your reply until just now.

I'm planning on going somewhere to watch the Delaware St. game next week (thanks to the BTN, who shut down all the online streams of the MSU game this past weekend). I sent an e-mail to Lance via his website, but feel free to Reply back within this thread if you are planning on going to Taco Mac for that game - I'll check the thread or my Trackback for any replies.

Whitehall Tavern is the New spot to watch the games.  This place used to be Cheyenne Grille but has changed ownership.  The place is great.  The new menu and specials are great.  It was the Home of Michigan last year and this year will be even better.
