if i had known about mgoblog for most of my undergrad i'd still be in school.
OT: Current Michigan Students
MGB seating section FTW.
I'm a probable PoliSci/History concentrator, class of 2012.
Yeah I can definitely see how MGoBlog would've affected my studies at Umich; very addicting. Then again, my places of study were Good Time Charlie's, Ashley's, Mitch's, Heidelberg, and The Brown Jug, so instead of a little school work and the bars, it would've been MGoBlog and the bars. Crazy that most of my old hangout spots have changed or are gone.
Class of 2011
i wish i was a current UM student...i finished econ in december of 08...now im looking for jobs that dont exist because the economy sucks.. maybe ill open up a michigan football blog and give mgoblog some competition..anyone wanna join me?
JK dont ban me please...
I'm an MSE major, class of 2011, though I'm thinking of staying an extra year to either get a masters in MSE or double-major with ME.
I'm also in the MMB, so no MGoBlog seating for me.
I'm a MSE and ChemE double major, class of 2009 (so both a "wooo" and a "booo" that I'm graduating this year).
Since I'm graduating, obviously an MGoSeatingGroup wouldn't be much use for me. I would be interested in an MGoBlog group of fans (students and non-students alike) for the spring game. Hopefully when that gets closer something will happen with that.
And if anyone is looking to hire an MSE or ChemE major, I know of one that's not too shabby...
a "wal-mart wolverine" because somehow it's wrong to root for a team of another school. I'm a Central Michigan student, Fall 2009, Journalism major. For the record, Michigan was my favorite team from the time I turned 8. By the time I was heading to college (18 years old), that was 10 years of watching football. You don't just abandon your team after 10 years of loyalty just because you go to another school that isn't Michigan. And that's my rant on idiotic arguments I've heard from State fans. Thanks for listening. Go Blue!
It tells so much of the Spartan condition, the "wal mart wolverine" meme. I think it is a manifestation of their envy, that they do not have a contingent of fans who do not have direct connections to the school... partly because it is easier to get into State than UM, but mostly because they suck.
Tell me about it. I went to State so I heard it all the time. I double majored in Physiology and Biochemistry and went there because I received scholarship money. All my siblings have gone, or are currently attending UM as did a couple of my uncles. I was born blue and made it known when I was at MSU. My best memory of shoving it to the MSU fans was in 2005 after UM beat MSU in overtime at EL. I lived in an apartment that faced Harrison St. where many of the tailgaters and fans would walk by as they were going either to the game or back to their cars. After the game, there were swarms of people walking back to their cars pissed off that MSU lost, so I decided to put my stereo speakers up to my window and start blasting Hail to the Victors. The looks on people's faces was priceless and much to my surprise, there wasn't much backlash outside of the curse words and middle fingers thrown my way.
Graduate of Grand Valley in Computer Information Systems w/ a Business minor, class of 2008. Been rooting for the Wolverines since birth. My grandpa graduated from M in the 40s, and passed his love of all of things Michigan onto me. He's been a season-ticket holder for nearly 40+ years, and I've gone to at least one game a year since I was in middle school.
I, too, have heard all the "arguments" against M fans who don't attend Michigan, that we can't be "real" fans and all that. And it's always from a Sparty.
FTR, I know people who were denied at GV and admitted to MSU.
P.S. I dream of attending grad school at M.
CMU grad here too. Double Major in CS and Phy Sci Dec 2005. Grew up a M fan, not sure I'd have the grades to get in at M; I never applied. Plus, I was poor then and needed to go to school on a budget.
I'm here because all of my friends are rabid State fans or alumni and I can't talk sports with them w/out the Napoleon Syndrome kicking in.
doesn't CMU have a better journalism program than U of M though? It makes sense for a career to go to C Mich.
in fact, you could make the argument that Central has the best journalism program in the state
i thought that UM axed the journalism program here a while ago because it wasn't up to our standard or something
This happened recently - within the past two years I believe. There's no journalism program offered at the moment.
Actually, the J-School was axed almost 20 years ago (either 1990 or '91, I'm quite certain). The Michigan Daily has been our de facto journalism school since then.
I was thinking of the program itself. Apparently, we "recently" got rid of the graduate program:
Further back than I thought.
I'm with you on that one. I've been a Michigan fan since I was old enough to watch football, but I didn't go to Michigan. I went to pretty exclusive small private college instead. The way I look at it, since my school didn't have big time football I never had to make a choice between cheering for Michigan and my school. In other words, my Michigan fan credentials remain untarnished despite the fact that I went to another school. I can't complain about it because it gave me the opportunity to play hockey at the college level.
Surely you aren't suggesting that attending another school with a big-time (I-A, that is) football program does tarnish one's Michigan fan credentials.
Not at all. I didn't mean it to come out like that. I was just providing rationale.
Good, I shall not have to DEMAND my SATISFACTION.
In truth I didn't think that's how you meant it either - but you never know and I hate to pass up the chance to have an Internet pissing match over who's manhood, er, fanhood is bigger.
Haha. No, if anything what I meant was that I was trying to bolster my own fanhood, not lower anyone else's. I've run into that from some people before though who can't understand how you can be a diehard fan of a school that you didn't go to.
Working on year 6. (I took 2.5 years off to roam the streets)
The rockstar lifestyle is a tough one.
Class of 2011. I decided i'm going to transfer to engineering where i want to do CSE. If that doesn't pan out, i'll just do CS through LSA, but either way i'm going to be here a couple extra semesters.
mgoblog is a major contributor to my less-than-stellar GPA and a big reason why i'm not going to do well on my math exam in 3 hours. I should probably go cram for that.
I'm CS-LSA. I could graduate this spring, but decided I wanna go into Education. So, I'll graduate in December and then enroll in the School of Education. So, I'm in year 4 of 6.
I received my BS in Anthropology-Zoology from Michigan in 2007
Currently working on two masters degrees in healthcare stuff, will be done in 2010
I love it here, as you might tell! Football was a factor in my decision to stay here for grad school, probably to a degree that would indicate to some ... an unhealthy state of mind
And for the record, there is a negative correlation between my exposure to Mgoblog and grades
I must have set a record for the number of hours on Mgoblog from the Dude. Graduated with a MS in EE April 08. Winter 08 was the good times... flew out to California every other week to "interview." Spent the rest of the week on Mgoblog, and barely scraped together a passing GPA :)
mechanical engineering at uofm. class of 2010. i am in the dude watching my gpa fall as i am reading mgoblog
2010, English major, with a concentration is grammer and spealing.
Paying off nicely I see. :)
very much nicley.
I'm both an alumnus and [currently] a student elsewhere.
Michigan, LS&A, B.S., 2006
(1) Cellular & Molecular Biology
(2) Political Science
Penn State, College of Medicine, 2015
Also, to ChemE/MSEs, wtf did you people do to the Dow building? Stop lighting fires!
I had an exam today postponed because of that. Can't say I'm complaining. I've wasted my share of study time here on MGoBlog.
lots of engineers sitting on the internet all day? sounds right to me
I was in 1010 DOW when that happened, it was nuts. The lights flickered on and off for about three seconds while what sounded like a generator above our heads ground to a screeching halt. It tried going again over the next few minutes but never did - that was when people in orange vests said, essentially, GTFO.
If this site had existed when I was in school, I would have spent hours arguing for Brady over Henson as well as the fact that people need to lay off a young John Navarre a bit. As it stood, I just argued with my roommates as well as random strangers on the street.
Ha, same here (class of 2003).
Class of 2009
Cell Mol. Bio/Anthropology major
Med school next year.
I don't know about an Mgoblog seating, though it would be a pretty interesting and diverse group.
Class of 2k9. Originally class of 2k7 but I took two years off (similar to WolverSwede). I'm a double major:
Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Sciences
Unfortunately I'll probably be spending my Saturdays in California next year instead of at Michigan Stadium. :(
I've been reading since mgoblog and I both started in Fall 05. I like to think we have a special connection because of that.
Class of '12 majoring in movement science. (Markley ftw)
Yes, I have had classes with football players.
i went to high school on the westside of the state. moved to dallas got my bachelors degree from SMU in 06. i got my masters from UM last year. now i'm back in dallas. been a UM fan all my life
posting on Mgoblog. But . . . born in Ann Arbor, Dad taught at UM, eldest daughter just graduated from UM. Sad to think my Rice Owls probably would have spanked the Wolverines this year.
Grew up in Ann Arbor. I can hear the stadium from my backyard on game days. I go to Kalamazoo College now, Class of 2012, but it's not like they're a threat for my allegiances. We're not even in the NCAA.
Yes you are.
Pretty sure we're in the NAIA in most sports. . .although our softball team is in the NCAA, I think. . .
Huh, just looked it up. I was sure they weren't part of the NCAA. And my roommate is an athlete, too. . .
Class of 2012. I'm in the dude trying to study for my multivariable calculus test, but mgoblog got in the way again.
I'm a Biomedical Engineering undergrad, graduating after the Fall 2009 semester. But I'm doing the SGUS program, so I will have a masters in biomed (with a minor in computer science) after the Fall 2010 semester.
Communications/creative writing major, class of 2010. Born and raised in downtown Washington, DC (not MD or VA). Dad was an econ major, class of '72 and Mom a US History major, class of '73. I write sports for the Daily. Good times.
Movement Science class of 2011. Transferred from the University of Colorado so I may or may not be behind. Planning on medical school
I'm not sure about a seating section, but I think it would be pretty sweet if we had an mgoblog pregame for one of the games.
UM polsci grad, currently UM law student.
