after scoring 36 the first game, billups is lighting it up again with 18 in the first half. i know dumars traded him to clear cap space, and it was a move for the future, but i just dont see how pistons with billups couldnt have made another deep playoff run. just look what he did in denver, in the west. we still could have used him...
OT- billlups having another big game
Three years from now we'll be happy about the trade, but it sucks ass right now.
I keep saying that to myself.
Maybe, if they could have grabbed a 2 or 3 seed and beaten the other, and thats maybe a 50 50 proposition, maybe lower, and then Cleveland would have taken them behind the woodshed. Billups is a very good player, but the Pistons needed to break it up a year or 2 ago. Next year will be bad too, but you gotta be bad sometime.
It was time to break up the Pistons and start over. Flip Squandered their window of opportunity, and they were getting old and complacent. Other than the Darko Debacle and hiring Flip Squanders, Joe Dumars has done great with the Pistons.
Joe has been directly involved in all three of their NBA Championships; that is more than enough for me to trust his vision. That being said, I really want him to hire Izzo with Laimbeer and Mahorn as his assistants.
I have two reasons for wanting Izzo in Detroit; Izzo's style would play better in Detroit than most places in the NBA, and it would get him away from MSU a few years earlier that if he decides to finish his career there.
It would be great to see the Pistons rise and MSU fall at the same time.
I see Chauncey pull up for a silky smooth 3 in that disgusting powder blue uniform. When this trade happened, I was livid. "Allen Iverson???? Wha..??" But the more I thought about the future cap space, and that this team hit its ceiling blah blah blah, I convinced myself that in 2 or 3 years when Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh decided that Detroit would be a perfect place to team up Captain Planet style, this would be the best move ever and Joe Dumars would be crowned the greatest general manager ever. But, after thinking about it some more, I had a revelation. EVERYONE is going to have millions of dollars of cap space in 2 seasons. Why the hell would any free agent want to come to Detroit, of all places, when there are 15 other teams with cash to burn and a city that isn't half abandoned. Maybe this is me panicking after our crappy season, but damnit, I miss Chauncey.
yea, that trade was great. He surely looks over the hill. I agree they needed to break it up but you kept the biggest problem of all on the roster: Sheed. Granted, you probably chouldn't trade him...so cut him. Get rid of Tayshuan for Josh Smith like it sounded was a legit proposition. Don't trade for another headache and throw away this season (and next). I don't like the proposition of building through free agency, though it is more possible in the NBA than elsewhere.
