Found dead in his hotel room in Brazil. 37 years old.
Don't know how many boxing fans there are around here, but I thought I'd put this out here.

Alexis Arguello, it's been a tough couple of weeks for boxing.
I'm devastated by this. Gatti basically invented boxing for me with his trilogy against Mickey Ward; I ordered their first fight on PPV when I was 14 and I've loved boxing ever since. Thunder was a big hero in the Italian American community as well. Two years ago it was Diego Corrales, now Blood and Guts...I'm going to have to pray for Miguel Cotto because my favorite guys are dropping left and right.
He didn't always win, but his fights were what boxing used to be about-- big punches, who had the stronger chin, going for knockouts, and if equally matched opponents in the ring, beating the piss out of each other for 2 hours so that in the end you actually looked you stepped out of a Rocky movie. Agreed-- his fights with Mickey Ward were epic.
another tragic ending. Been a strange couple of weeks.
I must be getting old because all my childhood superstars are beginning to die.
But speaking about Gatti, man his fights were all offense and no defense and everyone loved it. The man gave 110% and left it in the ring. When I started to get into boxing he was the guy HBO would showcase all the time and boy did he deliver.
RIP Arturo Gatti, you were definitely the definition of a warrior.
sad. two of my favorite fights involved him, vs ward (one) and vs mayweather.
very saddened by this, he was an icon for boxing around here...A lot of people are deeply hurt by this loss.
Gatti's wife has been detained as a suspect in relation to his death.
