One Frame At A Time: Wofford & Texas Comment Count

Ace

Jordan Morgan recorded his second double-double of the weekend in the most Jordan Morgan way possible: by attempting to take a charge, not getting the call, and grabbing a board anyway while he's flat on his back.

This didn't make the top ten from the weekend. Don't fret, though—Morgan still makes several appearances. For the rest of the first two rounds of the tourney in GIFs, hit the jump.

[JUMP like GRIII over Javan Felix.]

As usual, click the stills/links to open each GIF in a lightbox, and don't forget to vote for your favorite at the end of the post.

HONORABLE MENTION

Stauskas hits a three, McGary's wings malfunction.
Morgan drive and one-handed slam.
Horford dunk, Dakich somethingorother.
Spike fronts Cameron Ridley, then Texas throws LOL-worthy lob.
Morgan two-handed slam.
Morgan's floor board.
Jordan Morgan, a little too turnt.
Robinson the Second, mildly amused at being on screen.

10. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A first-half three-point barrage in the tourney. Florida knows that feel, Texas.

9. Zone Killers

Textbook. (Also: Dakich warning.)

Textbook.

Not so textbook. (Impressive hops from Derrick Walton on the bench, though.)

Flickr changes the filenames, but those three GIFs are titled "zonemurderdunk," "zonemurderthree," and "zoneinvoluntarymanslaughter."

8. GRIII GTFO

I love the way the Texas male cheerleaders slowly lower their megaphones as the ball bounces a couple rows into the stands.

Also, CBS had a perfect replay angle of this play that they cut off far too soon so they could show... an above-the-basket look at the same block, which was just as pointless as you'd imagine.

Not only did they have the obnoxious habit of switching up the broadcast camera to "basketball minus depth perception," they cut short a ton of replays that would've made for great GIFs. Stop trying to win an Emmy for cinematography, CBS Director Guy.

7. Lottery Floater

Such a remarkable finish, and at a really critical time to boot.

Sadly, CBS's replay didn't show the blow-by that preceded it. Some network please hire me so I can install dedicated bench-cams, pick replays that are actually useful/entertaining, and never switch the camera angle during play.

6. Yes, You're On TV

You think Mitch McGary and Andrew Dakich were ready for the first three-pointer of the second half?

5. Andrew Dakich, Aspiring Referee

Take notes, Teddy V.

4. Jordan Morgan, Troll God

"I TOOK BETTER CHARGES IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WHICH WAS A TEN-MILE UPHILL WALK BOTH WAYS FROM MY HOUSE. THEY REPLACED THAT SCHOOL WITH A MCDONALDS IN 1962." — Jordan Morgan, probably.

It's not quite AI-on-Lue, but damn, J-Mo, way to take the on-court shaming up a notch.

3. OOP

You'd be forgiven for thinking GRIII was completely unguarded on this play, as Javan Felix is in the picture for about three frames before Robinson goes clear over him.

2. J-Mo Hulk Mode

I don't care that this basket ultimately didn't count, and I don't Morgan did, either.

FRAMES OF THE GAMES: Where's Nnanna?

This could've been the entirety of the Wofford recap.

The way GRIII eyes the ball for a moment—like he considers grabbing a ball that's about 13 feet off the ground, then decides he'll save his energy for later—is a great touch to this, as well.

(Title reference, if you're confused.)

That's something I feel as though we haven't seen much during his career. As he was driving I was thinking "holy shit I don't remember him ever doing that and holy shit he looks like McGary out there."

Nice to see him peaking during the tournament and finishing up at UM playing the best ball of his career.

Do we think that, at this point, they are spending considerable time developing their after-shot celebrations/gyrations?  Perhaps Coach B is building in practice time for this?  Are they working with a choreographer in a dance studio somewhere?

Also, there was an article about J-Mo in a newspaper that I know none of us read and they had a before/after of him...showing his transformation over the past five years.

I love how the baseline ref just stands there, without changing demeanor, like Morgan was not even there.  No possiblity of a charge, a block, etc- just as if JMo doesnt even exist.  ASS!

Notice how Dakich always seems to sense the big play before others on the bench (example: Zone Killers, first GIF). Combine that and his willingness to ham it up, and it's no surprise he's leading many of the sideline celebrations. I'm going to attribute his spidey senses to a high basketball IQ that comes from being a coach's son.

He's not quite at Bartlestein-Trey-Kansas-level just yet. Dakich tends to rise from his seat on every 3 attempt with some pretty hilarious back-tracking on occasion. That being said, the Dakich future referee clip was my favorite this time around for its Frank Drebin-Steerike Threeee!-esqueness.

The ancient J-Mo stuff is hilarious (replaced by Mickey D in '62).

Note J-Mo (second one behind the chariot) with the crossed arms- They are all practicing taking charges.

J-Mo is third guy- Note crossed arms, as they all practice taking a charge.http://img1.etsystatic.com/013/0/6132368/il_340x270.409856841_mo9j.jpg

One of first things that came up when I typed "Ancient J-Mo" into google. Note Dakich and friends at the bottom, they brought some cows to prepare for the celebratory "taking a charge" dance.

I voted for Spike fronting Ridley.  It wasn't the most important play, and it may not have even been a good play, but damn if that image isn't hilarious.  And I want to believe that the reason the lob was so off was because the passer couldn't believe what was going on under the basket.  Spike swagger for the win!

All of the above are awsome, but I would really like a Gif of the elderly lady joining in during the I can't turn you loose dance.  (Montage before 2:17 near end of game.)  The look on her husbands face is priceless.

In J-Mo, teasing him since the end of the Wofford game about the Texas "BIGS" were going to eat him up. He was nearly out of control ready to dominate. Having said that I voted OOP because I have never seen a guy jump like that to get to a basketball and throw it down unless we are talking NBA. Outstanding play....GO BLUE!!!
