One Frame At A Time: Utah Comment Count

Ace

There's so much going on here.

  1. Harbaugh discarding all his playsheets except the green one in a way that would seem exasperated except he looks completely calm the entire time.
  2. Harbaugh has a guy for this, and that guy is ready.
  3. The coaches behind Harbaugh are unfazed by all of this.
  4. Except, that is, for the guy holding the giant Tennessee Titans helmet placard, who's ready to spring into action and grab that wayward playsheet until Mr. B snags it. Strong situational awareness there.
  5. Oh, right, and then Harbaugh licks his fingers and smacks his own ass.

For the record, Green Ass Smack was a pass that very well might have worked except Michigan blew the protection.

HONORABLE MENTION

Yeah! YEAHTantalizing Peppers kickoff return. Punt porn.

10. HARBAUGHNORABLE MENTION

So I made a lot of Harbaugh GIFs. Don't blame me, blame the Khaki Cam.

The form is good. The cleats are better.

Three nose beard! Three nose beard!

In breaking news, Jim Harbaugh wears ill-fitting khakis.

After Kenny Allen's missed field goal: "Damn, I should've gone for it."

This is by no means the end of the Harbaugh GIFs.

9. Mountain Goat In Training

Maybe if we try jumping higher...

...nope, never mind.

8. Wormed His Way Back There Oh I'm So Sorry

Awful puns aside Chris Wormley had a heck of a game.

7. You and Me Both, Everyone

The collective reaction to the first missed deep ball to Jehu Chesson was very GIF-able, if also depressing.

6. Block This, Part I

In the first half, Jabrill Peppers had a little trouble getting disengaged from blocks. Then he remembered he's a ninja.

5. STOP JUMPING INTO JOE BOLDEN

Seriously, Utah, you'd think once was enough.

4. Pit Check

Brought a D, should've brought DO.

3. Block This, Part II

This time with bonus authority.

2. GREEN ASS SMACK

The interview process for grad assistants was a heated game of 52 Pickup.

FRAMES OF THE GAME: BUTTDOWN IN TRAFFIC

Jake Butt's Mackey Award campaign got off to quite the start.

First time I saw it in his highlight type I just thought 'How did nobody think of this before?'

Killer skill to have and hopeful it gets passed down to subsequent punters because that pinned Utah inside their 5 where they proceeded to go 3-and-out

I thought the same thing. Killer skill that allowed our gunners to get downfield and actually field it inside the 5!

And on seeing the gif, I noticed that he seems to be surrounded by a halo when he punts it off. Sure, it's just the light coming in through the stadium walls. Or was it really a divinely-inspired punt? Who can say with any amount of certainty?

I think the Punt Porn Honorable Mention should have been elevated into the top-ten.  I especially like the way the last streams of sunlight on the field happen to land right where Blake dances before launching the spheroid.  It almost looks as if he leaves some sort of radio-active glow behind when he engages Aussie-Punt Mode.

I'll be interested to see Grant Perry in the UFR. I imagine he'll have a lot of positives and negatives as those were some pretty nice blocks on those Darboh screens but he'll probably get pinned for a few incorrect routes too

ARRGH I want this game back.  So many missed opportunities, and I don't think Utah outclassed us. Michigan just made too many mistakes to win, and a couple of balls bounced Utah's way.

But, whatever, let's just move forward.  This team will be good.  I can feel it.

It makes it hard to judge a loss to Utah. Michigan isn't the first or last Utah opponent that will leave SLC thinking "we beat ourselves" and "we'd win 6 out og 10 in a rematch", because that's Whittingham's MO - get a lead, play tough vanilla football, make the opponent execute correctly over and over and over again, capitalize on the eventual mistake, and always be in position for the loose ball.  When Whittingham takes any  lead in the second half, he quits playing to win and starts playing to force the opponent to lose.

second block play. In live time I was worried he was gonna get flagged for tripping cuz he flailed out his legs after rolling over and theh utah player almost tripped over them...surprised it didn't get called because it definitely interfered with the defender's ability to get to the ball carrier.

Is very, very, disturbing (touching or rubbing himself) I would unequivically say on another level from what Harbaugh did. On a simular other note.Is it just me or is Harbaugh losing a significant amount of weight since he has taken this job? I thought he looked a little fuller in the face (at his press conference to tell us he was coaching at UM) than he does now. Please tell me I am wrong and I am (one of those guys) just waiting for the sky to fall.

"Fielding H. Yost would surely be smiling today after looking over the college football scores from the first Saturday of the season.

After all, no team scored like his "Point-a-Minute" Michigan Wolverines from 1901-1905, overwhelming opponents to the tune of scores such as 130-0, 128-0 and 119-0."

A game that we very well could have won if we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot so many times. I think the boys will be ready to play on Sat. Can't wait to watch the next game!

...or maybe his blocker was too slow. Jabrill blew by him, and it would have been nice to have him still in front twenty yards down the field. That speed is crazy - I think we're going to see some big returns this year!

I love how Perry was back up and almost downfield enough to make another block. Since he wasn't quite in front it would have been awesome to see him peel back and hit #29 one more time down the field, just to show him what's up.
