One Frame At A Time: Spring Game
Spring Game gifs? Oh, sure, I guess. This is the last post I'll have here until the 29th, as the next couple days are devoted to HTTV stuff and then I'm taking a little time off to recharge.
I'm continuing to tweak how I do gifs on here to hopefully make them more accessible for everyone—most of them are now dumbed down to 48 colors, which has greatly decreased file sizes. If you had trouble with them before, perhaps you'll give these posts another shot. Anyway, Dennis Norfleet:
This one was specifically requested by Brian, or at least that's how I interpreted the tween-at-a-Bieber-concert scream emanating from the stands when it happened. (Full run gif'd here, but I really wanted to slow-mo that juke.)
[Hit THE JUMP for fun with the names of a certain Pickerington-based duo.]
As always, click the still frames to open each gif in a lightbox.
Honestly not sure what's more promising: the pinpoint throw or Darboh's great adjustment to the football.
On the very next play, Frank Clark's stunt—along with Jibreel Black getting and holding the edge—forced a safety.
Please do this on the regular, Cam Gordon.
Half-empty: interior blocking confusion. Half-full: damn, James Ross.
Devin Funchess initially made a pretty poor adjustment to this pass. No matter.
Mmmmmmm, Taco sack.
Jake Butt's first Michigan TD celebration went rather poorly. Might I suggest trying this one instead?

Ugh. 48 colors looks like mud.

It does not look quite as good, but I like it better because of the decreased loading time. You can still see everything

64 colors didn't look any better with these—think the bigger issue was the lighting at the game.
[EDIT: Also, these are taken from a 360p video, and normally I'm starting with at least 720p. Guarantee they'll look better come football season, or I'll switch up how I do them.]

smaller file sizes are great but unless you're on dial-up or running Windows 2000 there really shouldn't be much of a problem for people even at 256 colors.
I'd be investigating possible Flash issues.

That Jack Miller was certain he was supposed to block that tackle and followed him to the right side which allowed both Ross and Morgan to come right up the middle unimpeded. So my glass half-full would be: one of them was probably still gonna get a TFL. Glass half-empty: Jack Miller confused

if the QBs are wearing orange no contact jerseys, then how come he was sacked? Did they make Taco run laps for that one?

So sayeth Coach Hoke with a wry smile.

Toward the end a QB was running for the sidelines and just got shoved out and down.

check out Kalis on Q Wash.

Jack Miller got a huge initial bump on him to get him on his heels, then proceeded to dominate Morgan. Great play by both of them.

On the Taco sack, Strobel looks even more impressive. If Taco didn't get bumped into getting the sack, Strobel would have had it by completely dominating his blocker and pushing him back to the QB, granted, I think it was a walk on.
Yeah, it was a walk-on, 280 lb. center who was standing up too high. Good for Strobel, sure, but not particularly impressive.

He did not squeal like a tween at a Justin Bieber concert. He has more professional decorum than that.
It was much more subdued, like he was at a Jonas Brothers concert.

Ondre Pipkin's worst nightmare: Lewan/Braden combo block.
I watched that a few times on the DVR. Pipkins gets out of his stance with a full head of steam and literally bounces back just as fast when he meets those two. Donkeys will be ridden this fall.

by Deving, really nice catch by Butt, then a great jump-n-hit by Devin..way to play thru and after the whistle! haha
There catch by Darboh in the second gif is an extremely hard catch. He shows great promise to be a good reciever this year.
Was it last night people were talking about whether Ross' TFL was an A-gap or just a read... Morgan loops behind him to cover his A-Gap. So a damn quick blitz for sure.
This has probably been answered, but were the non-contact jerseys actually orange in person? On the TV and web, they still appeared red, but the commentators even had a discussion about them being orange. They also looked different than the OSU (NTOSU) leaked pics previously, and more like the normal Adidas practice jerseys, except red.
The jerseys were orange with blue letters/numbers. Adidas did actually make these, so they were different from the Oregon St. hand-me-downs.
Kinda-OT: Is anyone going to post a YouTube video of the full spring scrimmage for those of us who don't have BTN?
Definitely orange. Like pylon cone orange.
Edit: This was in response to MGoCombs.
Thanks! I don't get BTN HD in San Diego, so I was watching it on a hi-res HDTV in standard def, so the colors were way off. Similarly, in the GIFs and on the picture pages, they looked red. Maybe I am color blind.
Norfleet moves like Denard without dreads, or dilithium.
Much more accessible for us in the Midwestern outback.
This has become my favorite regular post at MGoBlog, and I often forward .gifs all around (great advertising, great idea).
However, these look pretty crappy compared to previous ones. I had assumed it was the 48 color thing (what, no "thistle" or "dark salmon"?); however, if Ace is right and it's more because of the lighting and only 360p, that would make me happy.
Not trying to be too critical - like I said, I love these. But it's good for you to know what we think about them. If the quality remains the same as these, I *much prefer* the earlier versions. And I'm sure you hear from the vocal minority about the time it takes to open, but I'm pretty sure a huge majority have no issue with it.
As someone with a computer that seems slower than it should be given its specs (and I just recently reinstalled windows), these gifs are appreciated. I've usually skipped these posts. I may buy a new laptop soon, but besides some small stuff like this, I don't really have any problems, so it seems dumb to blow a whole bunch of money on a new laptop when mine is adequate for anything I actually need to do.
Perhaps could make one post showing gifs with more colors and the same gifs with less for the readers to decide once and for all which would be better. They do look worse than usual, but I can't say I care. If I want to really watch something that looks good, I wanna go the video anyway. The gifs are usually just good for illustrating a few small things, like how it's nice to get a couple quick views of the Northfleet juke.
