One Frame At A Time: Purdue

Quiet, you.

When not working at home, Trey Burke prefers to work in silence. Your accomodation is appreciated, Mackey Arena. (Alternate version with slow-mo shushing and a better look at the shot.)

[Hit THE JUMP for the rest of the Purdue gifs and your chance to vote for your favorite.]

No honorable mentions this time around, though that's because I've cheated and included some extra gifs in the top ten—for good reason, you'll see.

10. Trey Burke Is Pretty Good At This "Stealing" Thing

If you're being guarded by Trey Burke, then suddenly can no longer see Trey Burke, it's already over and you might as well run back on defense.

9. Trey Burke, Ultimate Decoy

Yes, Burke is very good at basketball, but guarding the guy with the ball is pretty important, too.

8. F Yeah

Caris LeVert said a naughty word after Nik Stauskas' late three but it's okay because Caris LeVert looks like he's 12 and therefore it's endearing.

7. Burke Seals Game With Steal (Again), Terone Johnson Is Sad

This was more a fortuitous bounce than anything else, but Burke has more than earned his luck. Cue the schadenfreude, though it's hard to feel much glee when I bear little ill-will towards Purdue:

6. Hi, Matt Vogrich

Nice shot, Matt Vogrich.

Bye, Matt Vogrich.

5. Sold it

"I am learning some amazing moves from this guy."

4. Hardaway Hits The Layup, McGary Rolls The Dice

That's a pretty fast break, but why is it all the way up at #4? ENHANCE.

"You don't think he's doing the dice thing too much?"

"That's really all he's got."

3. Shhhhhhhhhhh

I can't decide which one I like best, so here's the alternate look at Burke's brief heel turn.

2. Sad Sandi Marcius/Mad Sandi Marcius

This gif covered 13 seconds of real time. Sandi Marcius was a very sad panda. Then he became a briefly mad, profane panda:

Marcius played his heart out and had every right to be pissed after turning his ankle during the best game of his life, then watching his team lose a big lead down the stretch. Sports really suck sometimes.

FRAMES OF THE GAME: Expert Sniper, Festive Canadian, Defensive Work-In-Progress

Nik Stauskas hits perhaps the biggest shot of the game and celebrates accordingly. Well, except for the fact that he needs to get back on defense. Something tells me John Beilein didn't find this as amusing as I did.

VOTE

Not surprisingly, Burke's midcourt swipe of Keith Appling won the last vote going away. What's your choice for the Purdue game?

I got some mad respect for vogrich. He did his thing for those 2 seasons and now has taken a quiet backseat without any complaints. And when we bring him in? He knocked it down. Having him and Stauskas on the floor could really stretch a defense out and open up the floor.

Agree, glad someone else caught that.  I remember seeing that occur live-time.  I was happry to see Burke get in Matt's face in "celebration".  As little as he does on the court during games anymore he's just as much an integral part of the team as anyone else and Burke let him know it after that big 3 he nailed.

Why are we so bad at boxing out? As an undersized guard, I was taught to put your back into it despite being under-sized and less-weight. Why can't the MI staff teach their kids the same? Can't use the excuse of zone because we've barely played it this year.  So frustrating to watch...

I just got home from flying out to the game (my son attends Purdue). Although this does not directly respond to this post I wanted to mention some things seen first hand. I apologize if these were mentioned previously.

During team introductions the Purdue fans booed the loudest for Glenn Robinson III. In the first half, during a time out, the announcer introduced Glenn Robinson (dad) to a thunderous standing ovation. I could only wonder what GR (dad) was thinking.

My son explained that this was a huge exam week and many students did not attend the game. Even so, the place was 90% full and the student section was great (even if they really hated it whenever Beilein yelled at a ref).

During half time the announcer recognized former coach Gene Keady and his wife. He was hardly recognizable without his comb over/toupee. Huge ovation. Later the kiss cam focused on him and his wife and they happily complied. Nice moment.

Mackey arena is a great environment for basketball and we had a great time (especially me and the handful of other wolverine fans present).

I sort of apologize to the Purdue alums in the row in front of me for giving a running commentary about our players' strength and weaknesses. It must have been really difficult to put up with me when Trey Burke had 4 points at the half and I stated we likely could not win if he didn't get his usual 15+. Each time he scored thereafter I announced his new total and yelled how great he is.

I wonder what convinced him to finally give up the ghost on the comb over? He apparently has also quit dying his hair too. Before he retired, the Purdue student section t-shirts had a drawing of a basketball wearing Keady's comb over. I love to get my hands on one of those. Much better than the Paint Crew.
