One Frame At A Time: Minnesota
Jeremy Gallon continues to find new ways to confound defenses. First, it was the cloaking device, which made its spectacular debut against Notre Dame last year. Now, he's moved on to rocket shoes:

Dubious legality? Admittedly, yes. Fantastic results? Oh, indeed.
[The rest of the Minnesota game in gifs is after THE JUMP. WARNING: Jake Ryan nightmare fuel ahead.]
Gallon's TD catch—and you can see the original here—may not have been the most spectacular passing touchdown of the day, as Devin Gardner unleashed this across-the-body heat-seeking missile to The Threat for Michigan's first touchdown:

Of course, that may not even have been Devin Gardner's most spectacular touchdown of the day, as he escaped contain and made a great second effort to reach the end zone in the fourth quarter:

Roy Roundtree set up the above touchdown run with this improbable catch—note the ball never touches the ground:

Defensively, Greg Mattison saw a freshman quarterback, licked his chops, and got to blitzin':

Jake Ryan, meanwhile, is still terrifying:

In the end, there was much rejoicing:

It would also work well for when he shoves the blocker INTO the runner. Ridiculous.
And you could add one when Ryan was cut blocked, got up and still made the play. That one was impressive also.
Also, if you could add the one where Jake Ryan was born. K thx
That play by Jake MF Ryan is a thing of beauty. his effort and hustle on that play was a model example for all to follow. I'm so glad we have him on our side.
Love the gallon jetpack as well, well done
Edit - correction - Gallon's rocket shoes, not jetpack.

I just love the Ryan's attitude that screams "Get the F-CK out of my way!" on the play.
Minnesota WR: "nice, I caught the reverse pitch. that misdirection should freeze a linebacker or two. I'll just run it to the outside & get the edge."
Jake Ryan: "LOL the freshman QB is trying to block me."
Minnesota WR: "here we g - AH SHIT Jake Ryan's cutting off the edge. I'll just bounce it inside the blocker, then. WTF Jake Ryan again? How did you ... screw it, I'll go back outsi - DAMNIT WHAT IS THIS MAGIC AARGGHLBLRLBL"

I believe that Michigan Football will not merely endure: it will prevail
someone get this done, pronto. Love the idea. And love this .gif post. Your best one yet, ACE.

After he sheds the block, it looks like he is moving in fast forward while the everybody else is at normal speed.
While we're requesting things, Denard smiling at the Kisscam?
Hoke and Mattison say that his playing is "unorthodox" .... Does anyone know what they find unorthodox about his playing style? Is it technique? The only thing I see is a heat seeking missle with a high motor and Thor-like glorious blond flow.
I wish I could recall exactly what Mattison said (or have the desire to search for it) but it was about how his footwork is not always what they teach, his block shedding is not always what they teach, but damn if he doesn't end up in the right spot to make the plays regardless. It seems to me and many many other people that he is simply a great instinctual football player.
"Yep"
thanks for the info. -- I never played defense so I wouldn't know how to evaluate what is or isn't "technically correct"about his play. I just know that I see him flying around making plays!
A lot of times Jake Ryan takes a "wrong" step that would usually cause him to give up his leverage on the outside but still makes the tackle in the backfield becaues his next step is so explosive. If anything it's often a better outcome than if he plays 'correctly' but it's a more volitile one, and as a defensive coach you usually prefer consistantly good plays to inconsistant great plays. Better to give up 2 yards than tackle for -3 or let them outside for 8...
Last year Mr. Ryan was causing some of those remote-toss inducing plays were he'd give them the outside (particularly in the first half against Northwestern). This year he's gotten pretty good at looking like he's giving them an option when their only option is who will be tackled by Jack Ryan. Mwahahahaha!
I'm glad the last GIF made it in here. It was really cool to see Denard genuinely pumped up/excited for Gardner. I imagine that might not be the case for a starting QB and his backup on other teams out there.
i think what you just described is unorthodox!
edit: in reply to damn yankee
Did we get some fortuitous bounces, or what? I can't recall EVER getting that many breaks in a single game.
Thank you HMLG.

I yelled "hell yeah" when I saw this graphic superimposed under a photo of Jake Ryan!

these kill my performance and I can not enjoy them they way they were mean to be enjoyed
not sure if you're talking about your performance at work, or your computer's performance in running the gifs ...
if it's the 2nd thing, I like to open each gif file in a new tab. chrome seems to have an easier time getting it up & smoothly running by itself, safe in its own little tab. I don't know how these things work.
Ryan is a walking instructional video on how to play LB.
life is like a box of chocolates... and you got the Whizzo Quality Assortment
Anyone else think DG's throwing motion has improved? Also, how come Fitz can't make good cuts this year? It seems like he's lost his ability to juke and just runs right into defenders.
It was and is not pretty. It was very effective so who cares.
Sincerely,
Phillip Rivers
It looks to me like it's more of a full throw. He used to "put" it like a shot putter.
No more disagreeing with me I call!
That Gallon catch was one of the worst calls in the review era........it was awesome, but WTF were they thinking on that call?
MSU keeps whining about that interference, but the only call I saw worse than awarding Gallon the catch was calling roughing on the Nebraska guy who got hit a) late and b) in the back and as he goes sailing out of bounds he tries to avoid the MSU guy but hits him and gets called for roughing. Only thing saving that call from being worse than Gallon is that the refs didn't have the benefit of replay.
How was it a terrible call? Foot down, left hand retains possession the whole time. Call on the field was a TD and there wasn't enough to overturn it = catch.
they say they confirmed it as a TD? I don't think the "complete the process" rule aka the Calvin Johnson rule exists in college does it?
Phil Brabbs FTW
I don't remember whether it stood or was confirmed, but it doesn't really matter in the long run. The main thing is there wasn't enough to overturn the call.
That Jake Ryan play is my favorite so far this year. He is a damn beast and I love him.

Sign that Spartan up for Italian league soccer!!
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
Did they need to get the gurney and that magic freeze spray for that guy?
to this has happened at least once in every game I've seen them play.
pathetic
Was that before or After Adams blew the game on that interception return?
Who called it (in the No wonder MSU is MSU thread) "60 minutes of unnecessary prancing"

My computer is not pleased with you, Mr. Anbender.
I should probably note that you can hit 'escape' to stop the images from animating, then right-click and hit 'view image' to open it up in its own window. I realize these posts are quite bandwith-heavy but there's really no way around that with a post full of gifs, which is why most of them go below the jump.
If it's not too much trouble, can we get a gif of Gardner clasping his hands and thanking God after Dileo's TD catch? I think that gif could get a lot of mileage around these here parts.

That gif of Jake Ryan needs to have captions at the bottom that read "JAKE", "MOTHER", "FUCKING", and "RYAN". The first should appear when he makes contact with the blocker, the second when the runner cuts back, the third when the runner cuts back again, and the fourth when he's getting tackled. That's what I kept saying when they were showing replays.
