One Frame At A Time: Florida
No, it wasn't a fun day to be a Florida quarterback. Many more hits in the backfield plus some big runs, crushing blocks, long bombs, field goals(!), and more in GIF form after the jump.
[JUMP]
I'm switching over entirely to Gfycats this year because they load so much faster than normal GIFs and make these posts way, way easier to format. They've added the ability to kill autoplay, so these hopefully won't overload mobile devices anymore. Just hit play and enjoy; if you want to futz around with the speed or go frame-by-frame, click through for all the various gfycat toys. You'll want to bookmark this page as the MGoBlog Gfycat library grows, too. Finally, don't forget to vote for your favorite at the end of the post.
HONORABLE MENTION
Instead of listing every single thing I GIF'd for these, I'm going to start linking the ones that barely missed the cut, and I'll direct you to the full Gfycat album if you want to see the rest. Linking to a full set of 42 GIFs felt like overkill. The most honorable mentions:
Sad Florida Fan. Sad Florida Fans. Florida Fan F-Bomb.
Hudson Forces Buttfumble.
Ambry Thomas strip/recovery.
Three linebackers combine for TFL.
Rashan Gary, Arm Collector.
Ty Isaac Breaks Loose.
10. The Second Quarter, In Summary
You're looking live at every Michigan fan after the second pick-six.
9. Hello, Fourth-String Tight End
There's always a moment in the first game of the year when you pull up the roster and go "who was that guy?" This was that moment. That guy was Florida native Nick Eubanks.
8. Two Guys, A Spy, And A QB About To Die
On a late third-and-long, Michigan decides to rush two linemen with Chase Winovich acting as a QB spy. Let's see how that went:
Brutal. Let's see it again:
Delightfully brutal.
7. Invisibility Cloak, Now In Larger Sizes
Should they have called the "don't guard the 6'4" wideout" play, Wilton?
Agreed.
6. Dreaded Missile
There was too much good from Devin Bush to limit this to one GIF. Sack number one:
Sack number two:
Picking his way through traffic for a third-down TFL:
Can anyone block him?
I didn't think so.
5. Wild Thing
You make my heart sing:
You make everything... groovy:
Wild Thing.
4. Hammered
The corner on this play wanted absolutely no part of getting hit up high by Khalid Hill:
The defensive end on this play wasn't given a choice:
3. Rudely Discarded
The pursuit by Lawrence Marshall is excellent, but the real highlight is Josh Metellus shedding a block with such force he literally tosses the receiver two yards away from the play. Marshall then wrecks the same guy and dives on the ball for good measure.
2. Bears On The Loose
Man, I can't imagine seeing anything more impressive than a strongside defensive end making a tackle on a wide receiver screen.
[puts hand to ear] I'm getting word that... oh dear god:
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
FRAMES OF THE GAME: SEALED WITH A HIT
I have no idea what the left tackle was doing but Chase Winovich sure knew how to take advantage:
A replay? Sure, that sounds delightful.

The only thing I don't like is that the base gif file has pretty bad framerate. Is there anyway to fix that? Example:

"The frames move too fast in the .gif of a spectacular QB sack in a game we completely dominated against an elite SEC power on national TV."
Rich people problems.

Haha, touche. As a grad student, rich I am not, but point taken; complaint withdrawn.

I'd like to see some modulation too if possible.
I want to savor a .gif like that.

Win with character. Win with cruelty.

Winovich was reaching for the loose ball when Furbush jumped on it to secure the TD.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:17 PM ^
Malik Zaire is going to be having nightmares about Winovich for quite some time.
September 6th, 2017 at 2:47 PM ^
Would you rather play for the purple faced leprechaun or have to run for your life from our D-line for a game? Both would give me nightmares.

Devin Bush's nickname has to be the Dread Missile or the Dreaded Missile. It's too perfect.

The Dread Pirate Bush? OK.

Dread Pirate Devin. Just sayin'.

I understand why it didn't make the cut, but I kinda wish the play where Higdon(?) broke what looked like an almost sure TFL and got to the edge for positive yardage. He got wrapped, then got himself unwrapped.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:37 PM ^
the one where he gets up and goes at one of the Florida DLineman?? I second this suggestion

rich rod wishes that he had hired Don Brown away from Maryland

The Devin Bush TFL was at a HUGE moment in the game.
It was a 3rd and 2, on Florida's first drive after the back-to-back #Pick6 and the ensuing blocked punt where Florida started their drive in Michigan territory.
They were on our 29 yard line on the 3rd down play. The tried to stretch to the wide side, and Devin Bush played it perfectly. He hid behind the mess of people, hanging back to eliminate any cuts upfield, then used his speed to cut off the outside faster than any Michigan LB I can remember in a long time (not including Peppers). Kinnel may have made the play solo, but Bush got there first and threw the RB down for a 2 yard loss, which led to a missed 47 yard FG and kept it a one possession game, and may have changed the momentum from Florida to Michigan.

I prioritize "reusability" so I went with Devin Bush SMH

edit. Whoops, nvm eyes playing tricks on me. Tackle over formation...

may be an actual wolverine. Dreaded Missile is good. Another option, Full Bush. Also hoping they play Wild Thing at home every time Nordin hits a FG
September 6th, 2017 at 2:58 PM ^
Full Bush with his trusted cohort, Furbush. Might be a little much.

All I know is that I can't figure out who my favorite player on Defense is.... Too many dudez
September 6th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
I'm sorry, but for my money, "Rudely Discarded" wins hands down. I mean... wow.
I don't necessarily agree with the whole "they physically whooped us" take, I think they were out schemed and out prepared... but then you see that gif and you think "Yeah. That right there, that's a whoopin."
...and then the icing on the cake:
The receiver gets back up after getting tossed to the side like a prom dress, only to get steamrolled by Marshall who then pounces on the loose ball that the kid probably would have been in position to recover, if not for his inability to avoid getting knocked on his ass twice within 5 seconds.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:22 PM ^
Why can't they give us the replay angle we all deserve there though? DAMN YOU ESPN/ABC!!
September 6th, 2017 at 3:09 PM ^
because Devin Bush Sack Number 2 would have been a stripped ball fumble for a right-handed QB.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:22 PM ^
Oddly enough, that did not seem to help him much against Winovich in the end-zone.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:38 PM ^
Devin Bush Sack Number 2 was my favorite. The anticipation of Devin Bush and Rashan Gary stampeding towards the QB is just too great. I was terrified for that poor schlep.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:14 PM ^
and its one of the best examples of a well coached team vs a poorly coached team. UF would be in for a rough ride this year if the SEC East wasn't so weak.
September 6th, 2017 at 3:19 PM ^
The #4 gator gets shed like a rag doll by Mettellus. He then gets up only to be macked by Marshall. Once he sees the ball is recovered by Michigan, he then throws a tantrum.

My wish is that in the two guys and a spy clip Zaire would have tried to throw a fake at Winovich and then cut back. Mo Hurst would quite likely have cut him in half. That would most assuredly led to a good ole belly rub.
