Short. [Patrick Barron/MGoBlog]

I'm staring at my laptop and the sea of exultant Ohio State fans on the field below dancing to "Sweet Caroline" and I feel sick.

Sick that Michigan threw away multiple chances to win this game in regulation. Sick that a dozen little plays one way or the other change the outcome. Sick at that spot. That fucking spot.

Michigan should be playing for the Big Ten championship and a spot in the playoff next weekend. Instead, they will sit at home as either Ohio State or Penn State represents the East. That spot, that fucking spot, will stick in the collective Wolverine memory for much, much longer.

The Wolverines controlled most of this game. Wilton Speight battled back from his still-undisclosed injury to throw for 219 yards and two scores, an effort that would take its place in the pantheon of heroic rivalry performances had the outcome gone the other way. Speight's two interceptions, however, were turned into two Ohio State touchdowns, and that allowed the Buckeyes to keep it close enough to force overtime on a 23-yard Tyler Durbin field goal with one second left in regulation.

The defense, which had played a spectacular game, looked worn out in the first overtime period, ceding a JT Barrett touchdown run on the second play. Speight responded with a fourth-down touchdown to Amara Darboh. Michigan's ensuing possession ended with a field goal after a questionable non-call on a third-down pass to Perry, leaving the door open for Ohio State to win it.

Seemingly given new life, the defense forced an all-or-nothing fourth-and-one. Barrett kept it. The officials gave him a generous spot, and even though it appeared on replay that Barrett's right arm—the one holding the football—never reached the line to gain, that spot, that fucking spot, stood upon review.

In a not-so-alternate universe in which the men in charge of the game are competent, there are Muppets and joy and appreciation of one of the most dramatic football games in recent memory or perhaps ever and scrambling to finalize plans for next weekend. Alas, that fucking spot. Alas.

My adult daughter went to the game against my recommendation and the stupid f-cks in columbus vandalized her car ( Maryland plates, no M paraphenalia). And they were just rude f-cks at the game.  Did I mention how much I hate that sh-tty state?

Yes, but she's a Millenial who doesn't understand the cold, harsh realities of that cesspool.  Wouldn't listen to the old man .  I stopped going to that sh-thole years ago after fights, altercations, and vandalism.  M and its fans have so much more class than the stuff which oozes out of columbus.

I was lying on the floor distraught and my 20 month old ran over and gave me the biggest hug, she wouldn't let me put her down for ten minutes. She knew dad was hurting and wanted to make me feel better. It worked a little bit, and reminded me of what is really important. Also, she probably could have officiated the game better than the ass clowns we had.

Why do they have our number?! I'm sick of this shit! It's always "maybe next year" and I'm sick of that. We could've buried them when we were up 17-7. We need to beat their fucking asses next year in the big house. It was clear who the better team was and totally sucks that we won't have the hardware to prove it.

we should have had this game won, but too many momentum killers ... pick-6, pick-to-TD, fumble at the goal line, one-sided officiating (THE F-ING SPOT, phantom face-mask, PI on Hill, No PI against Grant, sideline penalty for throwing your clip-board, etc, etc) . Besides all that, our defense was a beast - way better than OSU's offense and worthy of the win. Go Penn State !!! OSU doesn't deserve to be in the title game, from this gift.

The fumble rolling right to a player laying on the ground

The non-PI in the first quarter stops a drive

No block in the back on the 2nd interception return

No holding on the 3rd down before the last 4th down

The spot on that last 3rd down

3-4 passes being batted straight in the air by our defense and not being caught

Just saw Harbaugh's post game presser.  He's right on, right on about the officiating.  But even with out that we should have won.  2/3 turnovers never should have happened (I'll give him the one over the middle) and they were the difference.  It looks like PSU will go and the stupid nuts will have to suck on it.

First off, I am a M fan. We have had season tickets since I was 8, and I'm a M grad (1995), and have wathed every M game for the last 20+ years. I am distraught at the loss, especially since we basically dominated them for 3 1/2 quarters on defense (8 sacks, only 3 third down converesions all game!), but also because Speight basically won and lost this game for us. So so close.

However, I am baffled by what everyone is saying that Barrett definitively did not make the first down. I have watched this reply maybe 15 times, and each time, it appears as if he got the 1st down. Am I looking at it wrongly? The ball, which is in his right hand before he gets pushed back, is exactly where they spotted it, on TOP of the yellow line (which I am assuming is accurately representing the 1st down). Are people seeing this differently? So they put it where the ball's forward progress was, which is where they should have put it. Unless that yellow line was not the first down marker, then what am I missing?

(a reminder that I am a Michigan fan, and not the enemy!).

He actually needed to get to the 15th there, so the yellow line was a little short of the real line to gain. Still, while I'll get negged to hell for this, having rewatched the replay over and over again, he's gotta be within at least an inch of touching the 15 yard line if he didn't get there. Watching that replay I don't see how you'd expect they were going to overturn the field spot. I feel like I'm Picard looking for that 5th light.

fans, these college games have fallen on rigged results.  Homefield advantage is 2 penalties for 6 yards?  Screw that.

We know the officials and general populous dislike Harbaugh (for OSU fans the word "populous" throws them off track), but throwing games is obvious. I watched with some PSU fans and they were apolgizing for the ref BS.

Now the UM guys have to make plays to offset that BS and secure the game, but that was horrendous officiating.

Don't let the officials decide a game, let the players decide it.

2 of the incorrect calls in OT would fall into this category.  (don't call a PI on a critical play, don't make the game end by a close spot)  so those don't impact the outcome?  Dumb.

That with the millions of dollars riding on college football, that they can't even have a camera shot down on the line to gain.  I believe he was short, but sure would be nice to see a definitive look instead of bad camera angles.

What a stinkin' fine line between in or out of the playoffs.  With our veteran team and having a ton of pro prospects and their inexperience we shoulda' won this year. The only thing going for us next year will be....what?

The officials are to blame?  Turnovers, a personal foul call against the coach and a D-Line that got outplayed in the 4th quarter and OT.  This game could have gone 25 different ways.  Both teams had a chance to win -- OSU did.  Do not act like sore losers.  Officiating can be blamed in every game -- only classless losers blame the officials.  Rise above.
