No Second MSU Game At Yost This Year Comment Count

Brian

We found out why the first Michigan State hockey series was "TBA" yesterday, when it was announced that the two teams would play an outdoor game in Chicago. There are about 50,000 reasons that's a questionable decision—as in the number of people who won't be at this who would if it was on either campus.

Michigan is due to get two home games against State this year, Michigan and MSU have a contract to play at the Joe annually, and the other MSU game is still ominously "TBA":

I just called the ticket office, and they said they were told that the January 30th game is at the Joe.

I, like a lot of season ticket holders, have already renewed my season tickets, and now I am informed that a game against Michigan's biggest rival is going to be in Chicago. This is how you lose people forever, Dave Brandon. But I'm sure the one-time benefit from playing in Chicago is more important than not making your season ticket holders feel like saps. Clueless. This athletic department is clueless.

I'm in the minority here, but I've liked basically everything the athletic department has done under Dave Brandon. Like we discussed the other day, there is a bit of a generational gap when it comes to most of this stuff.

I'm twenty-three (23). I love when they play Seven Nation Army, because you know, it actually gives Michigan a home field advantage when people stand up and cheer during a football game. You're not at church, you're at a football game. That may be crazy to you older Michiganders.

I like alternate uniforms (yes, even the bumblebee ones) because it's a breath of fresh air to a program that still lives in the 1920's.

I don't like neutral site games (in football), but guess what, it's about damn near impossible to get a legitimate team to come to Michigan Stadium. So yes, I'd rather watch Michigan play Florida in Dallas than watch Michigan play Akron at home in front of 95,000 which they claim is 108,000 due to the [actual] tickets sold.

I live in Tennessee so admittedly the hockey thing doesn't impact me. I'm not driving 600 miles for a hockey game unless I'm already there for something. I loved the Big Chill, and I really like the idea of Michigan playing in Chicago. It's not as if MSU is not coming to Yost in 2014-15. From what I understand, they are for one game. A second game (as always) will be virtually a home game at Joe Louis for anyone that lives near Ann Arbor.

Most importantly, I don't mind paying a little more for a ticket that's going to help with better facilities - that will basically allow us to keep up with the Alabama's, Ohio State's, and USC's of the world. Realistically, the only thing I haven't liked of Dave Brandon is his handing of Rich Rod's final days and the recruitment of Jim Harbaugh or Les Miles. He should have thrown $6.5 million at either candidate in December of 2010 and then I probably wouldn't be worried today if we're going to do better than -48 in East Lansing this season.

That goes back to point two I made about living in the 1920's. Michigan won lots of football games when Woodrow Wilson was president. We won so many games, I'm surprised the University of Chicago and Case Scientific School even have good football programs now-a-days.

Come on man, there are a lot of things to complain about these days. Michigan's home record under Brady Hoke is not one of them. 19-2 over the last three seasons says Seven Nation Army hasn't destroyed Michigan football.

however, you were making the point that Seven Army Nation has helped. I believe it has not helped win or lose a game so saying there is the benefit of adding home field advantage is moot.

If you want to say you like it, go ahead, but I was refuting a specific point you made for why it was good.

I think we've both misconstrued some things. I said it gives Michigan a home field advantage when [people get up and cheer]..... which happens everytime Seven Nation Army plays. So I'm not necessarily stating that Seven Nation Army is a reason we won 19 in a row at home, I'm stating that the place becomes a frenzy when it starts up which leads to a loud Big House and better atmosphere.

If you (or any other Michigan bretheren) can think of a way to actually get some of the "I'm too good to cheer at a football game" alumni to get on their feet, I'm all for it. Hell, if you can get them on their feet without piped in music, I'm all for it. I don't care how it's done. I just hate driving 600 miles for a football game to be frowned upon because I stand up and cheer for my team when they play Akron.

Sometimes I feel as if I will be scorned if I stand up at the Big House when we are on defense and it's first down. Seven Nation Army seems to be the only thing that keeps people on their feet, but like I said if you can find something better than I'll personally write a letter to Dave to make the change.

is better than seven army nation along with the Go Blue chant played by the band.

They are both a million times better than Build me up butter cup, sweet caroline, and Don't stop believing, that I believe retract from an intense intimidating atmosphere. If it was just occasionaly seven nation army, maybe a lose yourself, with mostly band, I could live with it. Piped in music to me, detracts as much as it helps.

There have been plenty of times before the piped in music when the big house was rocking.  I think the loudest was during the ND game in 2009. Everyone was cheering and into the game.

I'm not a season ticket holder. Hell, I'm not even in college yet. But as a lifelong Michigan fan and huge hockey fan, this whole thing pisses me off. Last season I went to about a dozen hockey games by myself, and I made sure to get a ticket to the one home game against State. This year I'm wondering whether or not to buy tickets.
