A nice article on ESPN talking about Alshon Jeffery (wide receiver commit South Carolina) and his last night of recruiting before Signing Day. It also has a funny bit about Lane Kiffin in there and his negative recruiting tactics.
The night before Signing Day...
Kiffin as our coach.
The money quote is, "According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina."
If you think about it, that's a fairly rare and prestigious position to hold, what with the proliferation of this "self-serve" phenomenon that's been going on for a while now.
Oregon and New Jersey residents must be pretty pissed about all those Gamecock carpetbaggers that didn't make it to the NFL flooding their states and stealing jobs.
It is rare to find a gentlemen whose made it far in this profession. What really cracks me up is that Kiffen had the nerve to say what he did, because it is not like Tennessee is a great undergraduate institution.
You're saying Tennessee's not a great undergraduate institution? Come on man, they're the Ball State of the South.
Over-Under on how many points Urban drops on Kiffin this fall? I'm setting it at 68 right now. Reply with your thoughts.
69, only because I have a sick mind.
156. And Meyer shuns PATs and goes for two after every touchdown.
i'd be disappointed if they scored only 68. i'll go over
In Tennessee, it is OK to say anything you want about Steve Spurrier, who once, when his Florida team was kicking their asses and winning the SEC on a fairly regular basis, said "You can't spell Citrus Bowl without UT." Therefore, you would have to deduce that the UT people are having a great laugh at this and lauding Kiffin for "telling it like it is."
They love their Vols there and have a severe "you're either with us or agianst us" mentality, so most of the fans there are probably squarely in Kiffin's corner and defending all of the stupid shit he has already done since being hired.
Ultimately, UT fans would love OJ if he won and hate Mother Teresa if she lost.
At any rate, he sure is getting UT back in the national media.
Also, didn't Spurrier say something like "Peyton Manning will be the MVP of the Citrus Bowl. Again." before the season even started that year?
Not sure about Manning, but he once said "You can't spell 'Citrus' without U-T."
you can't spell Citrus without a U and a T.
so true. for example, I emailed the article to a huge UT friend of mine. His response? "I'm starting to really like Kiffin."
Personally, I wouldn't mind too much if RR took a few shots at TransSweaterVestite but I don't mind keeping it above the fray.
Wow. Just read the article. Kiffin gets douchier by the minute.
Only because I don't see a first year under Kiffen offense doing anything against a Florida D that has 22 guys (all 11 starters and all 11 of their backups) returning. So it's roughly gonna be 56-3 and will do wonders for Kiffen's future recruiting (sarcasm)
I assumed this post was going to be a play on "The Night Before Christmas."
