no, YOU'RE off topic
it goes to Ricky Reyes. Unlike most of the people mentioned here (except for Odoms and Stonum, I believe), he has actually scored a touchdown in college football.
Reyes = Kings.
Darryl Stonum his JR/SR year.
If we land Pratt, it will be him after Stonum.
DUI through campus...think that may disqualify him.
i like ricardo miller a lot and he has been a huge addition to the 2010 class. But with the #1 jersey aside, why is everyone so convinced he will be our best WR? Je'Ron Stokes looks to be a complete WR and another name that nobody is discussing is Jerald
Robinson. From everything i've read and seen, he looks to be more than just a 'good WR'. Regardless, we're going to have plenty of great options at WR for years to come.
I like Jerald Robinson for the best fit to wear the number 1 jersey although I doubt he really wants to give up his number four jersy he currently wears. He is easily our best 2010 reciver coming in and probably the best that will be on the team in his next 4 years
ME!!!!! I just went and put on my #1 jersey!!!!!!!!!!! Now, who's next?
I think it would be cool to have the players vote...the player they feel best deserves to wear the #1. You could vote every year or what I think would be cool is vote to start and then once that individual graduates he get to pick the next person to wear it. Just a few ideas, thoughts?
or an mgoblog vote, either way.
really like that idea, i think it bieng handed down would add to the tradition
but I think youd get into trouble trying to give it out every year by a player vote, because they would feel obligated to give it out. I think that #1 should be given out to the most deserving.
Stokes would seem like a good candidate, but someone maybe out of the box would be Jeremy Jackson. Jackson just seems like a big body reciever with good hands and will be there to make a lot of big catches during his career.
Controversial but possible. Wild cards are always fun.
I actually think Tay Odoms will step up big with some added competition and make a run for it as a junior.
I also think the fact that most people are choosing WRs that haven't played a down is quite indicative of the dearth of talent at that position.
RIP oh fantastic-named one.
Really, it might be. I don't want them to give it out just to be giving it out.
Is this offense is not given well to a #1 type reciever.
Who would have earned it at WVU when RR was there? Did WVU have any wr's or slots that were #1 material?
But do consider this. Remember the first guy to wear it? Yeah, that guy. How would he have done in a RR offense?
And, how many UM guys earned the #1 as a senior?
DUde - too much back and forth - I'm confused and/or simple-minded. What is your point? That what occurred at WVU doesn't matter (to which I agree)? Or that it does? How would [edit: wrong Anthony - Carter is who I meant] have done in RR's offense?
If you are saying that the offense itself doesnt matter so much - I agree. If you are saying that RR adapts his offense to the weapons he has - I agree. If you are saying that a talented individual will stand out (and, related to previous point, be used by RR) - I agree. People need to leave WVU in the past. RR adapted his offense to the weapons and talent level he had at that place. This place is different, and will be a different manifestation. I am sure if he has a very talented WR, we will see plenty of him.
Next year he will have a couple tds... 2010 he will have 10. 2011 he will wear No. 1 as a Junior
I think AC would have been a monster in a RR offense.
I guess I'll be the first to say it... most likely no one on the team right now. I don't see any Braylonesque receivers on this team.
I think we don't have a clear indication of who is on this team yet. The team is a work in progress, and our perspective is also a work in progress. We have yet to have a clear indication of any "1" worthy players. My guess is that Stonum, Miller, and Stokes are the most likely candidates. I, for one, do not think Odoms has any shot. If you get most of the passes tossed your way and catch a decent ratio of them, you will look good compared to the rest of the team that looked terrible. I see others surpassing him in impact and numbers in the years to come.
I really hope that Ricardo earns the #1. From everything i have heard the kid is a Michigan Man above all and has extraordinary talent. It would be nice to see him in that jersey.
Question...If Vincent Smith or Michael Shaw line up half the time at slot would they be eligible? After watching V-Smitty (I'm Starting that nickname right here right now) break the 22 collected ankles of our scout defense I'm ready to give him number 1.
Roy Roundtree will closely beat out Ricardo Miller for the #1 jersey.
It's not all about how good you are on the field. If that was the case then Mario would probably have worn #1.
That is really interesting - I have often wondered about Mario and #1. I wonder how many discussions Lloyd had with his staff about whether to give him #1. Being privy to some inside discussions would be simply fascinating.
Anyway, even though I think none of us want the #1 given out to someone who is undeserving, this thread makes clear that we need someone to earn it. And I think RR needs someone to earn it. We need the #1 in play as a boost, especially not having seen it in a while. And RR knows this. Thus, I would not be surprised if it gets handed out after this next season if we have someone who satisfies the minimum criteria (so that RR is not crucified again).
Look for #1 to go into play as soon as someone meets the minimum requirements - good character, "all in", dependability on the field, a few really great catches, and, overall, a .500 or better season.
I think he will hand it out sooner rather than later. Do you all think more than a year of seeing the candidate is required? Are there other minimum requirements?
I don't think he'll give it to a freshman or sophomore. "Upperclassman" may even be a requirement. A player would probably have to have at least one decent and one great seasons. So if someone were to get it next year it would have to be Stonum or Odoms, wouldn't it?
I'm fairly certain that Mario was offered the jersey, yet turned it down citing a desire to "build his own tradition and respect" (definitely not verbatim) around the number 86.
You are kidding, right? If not, say more please. Not that I don't believe you, this would be really shocking to me. Is my sarcasm meter off?
I can believe it. Mario never got into any off-the-field trouble until his junior year (and it wasn't huge). He probably was offered the jersey at some point.
Not every star wideout here has worn that jersey. Amani Toomer, Mercury Hayes and Tai Streets did not, for instance. And not everyone who's worn the jersey has been a huge star. Greg McMurtry wasn't that great, and Tyrone Butterfield obviously didn't pan out.
Let's remember it's hard for one receiver in RR's offense to have 1,000 yards or 10 TD's in one season.
ricardo miller or je'ron stokes
is the #1 receiver.
Yeah, I know, Oh grooossss
are a sick, sick man.
I agree with Ricardo Miller
He's the prototype
of wide-outs much better in my opinion than the previous 3 or 4 classes. 1 thing for sure is that there is no reciver on the team who deserves to wear that #1 we dont have a reciever who as soon as he steps on the field opposing dbs get nervous. Thats what that jersey means when you wear it, that ou are a serious threat and we dont have a serious threat right now. I said it b4 and i will say it again Robinson is that threat on the field just ask Coach R how robinson impressed him at the 1 day camp we had a few weeks back. If there was 1 reciever who we shouldnt doubt it would be jerald
Gardner would be a good candidate for the #1. The tradition could be extended to include any offensive skill player. It kind of needs to be. It seems unlikely that anyone will ever have the impact of a David Terrell or a Braylon Edwards while RichRod is the coach. But the QB has a chance to ring up all kinds of numbers.
I would be happy just to have someone on this team earn the #1 jersey. That would mean we would have a receiver demonstrate a level of play that was largely absent last year. Don't really care who it is.
With D-Rob at QB, I go with J'Ron "But U Can't HIde" Stokes
With Gardner at QB, I go with "Ricky" Ricardo Miller
