Yes, this is the same thing that happened after last year's incredibly depressing loss to a weak opponent on Halloween weekend. Here is a kitten:

1.  Why do defensive players keep leaving the program?  I'm thinking most recently of Vlad the Empaler and J.T. 'got a fork?' Turner.  Vlad was like 5 minutes away from being a starting safety- the job opened up right after he transferred.  And Turner couldn't get in shape despite near-certain knowledge that he'd be able to play this fall?  It doesn't make sense.

2.  Pair that with the overall personnel losses on that side of the ball and I'll say it doesn't much matter who is DC, though if I were Coach Rodriguez I'd fire GERG right away.  Seriously- maybe it's injuries, maybe it's player losses, but stuff ain't right.  Dude can't even speak to the media (not that I'd want to, were I him) and give some idea of direction, where does the team go from here?  Peace out, dude.  I'd take a flyer on an assistant and see what he can do for the rest of the year.  Time for action is, like, yesterday- and I don't even like firing coaches mid-season.  Sometimes you just know, you know?

Well Vlad came off an injury, was a hyped recruit and did play some garbage time against UCONN.  He left shortly after he figured out he wasn't gonna start.  Both him and Turner were slow.  Who knows if Vlad would of developed into anything, but Turner had no work ethic.  2 Fall camps in a row he came in way overweight and out of shape.  The only other players i know of that left under RR was Cissoko who got kicked off the team, and Woolfolk is hurt.  I don't know of anyone else who would of made an impact that left recently

I don't feel firing RR would be the answer, but i agree something needs to change with our defensive coaches.  I see a defense(though they are all young) with zero drive.  Especially when martin got hurt.  It looks like we are playing the number 1 team in the nation every game..

You're telling me they left because they didn't have a work ethic, or they realized they were slow despite being a hyped recruit?  Does it not fall on the defensive staff to weed out guys like that, to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak?  As to Turner, he came in overweight and out of shape for 2 fall camps in a row- sure, that's on him, but why isn't anyone talking to him?  He was all but guaranteed a starting spot, especially after Woolfolk went down, and he still couldn't learn two words ('I'm full')?  And I have to believe that him transferring to West Virginia was an FFFFFUUUUUU to the current coaching staff.  So what's his deal?  In re Emilien, he was coming off an injury- who's in his ear to say 'it's football, stuff happens, keep working and you'll get a chance'?  Everyone gets injured at one point or another.  It's as if there's no leadership on the team- and I say that not to denigrate, I'm just trying to diagnose what's happening.

nice move Brian. last thing this board needs is hate posts all over.   I myself wanted to create a thread regarding the opening drive (3 and 2 play call) but was to inebriated to type. Now what is this rumour? Does anyone know if Mike Trgovac wants to leave Green Bay? Many great things have been said about Bruce Tall as a DL coach.  Will he be co-defensive coordinator?

I guess all the rumors are being debunked by Micheal Spath...  GERG is fine

Another reason why Brian raising the point requirement was a good thing.

There were multiple posters on the rivals message boards saying Gerg resigned and Tall was in..claiming they had inside info. Looks like they're inside info is that twitter account.

about this whole year is we should be celebrating a year where we have a QB who is destroying the record books instead of worrying about whether we can hold a team to less than 35 points.

I mean Denard just passed Randle El and also now holds 4 of the top 9 all time QB Big 10 rushing games. We have a truly historic talent on our team and it's all gone to shit because of our crap D.

Sad, really sad.

I feel awful for the players, both because of what you said re: record setting performances, but also because these guys commit a massive amount of their lives to football, and this is unravelling before their eyes.  For every time I yell in frustration at the TV, I try to remember how difficult this must be for the players.  Despite my reservations with the coaching, I will never stop supporting the players.

I can tell you that the comparisons between Cam Cameron's IU teams from 2000-2002 are eerily similar to those of Rich Rodriguez.  Having lived through the experience, we would, every goddamn week, watch our dynamic, record breaking QB (Antwaan Randle El) score points in every conceivable way possible (he once had passing rushing receiving kick return and punt return TDs in the same game... just an unbelievable athlete) only to have our defense shit themselves and end the season some variant of 4-7 or 5-6, sans bowl (these were the days when you only played 11 games, no 1-AA cupcakes back then).  Cameron was a Michigan guy who knew offense, but could never get a consistent defense, then he got fired for Gerry Dinardo which initiated a period in IU football of which we shall not speak.  Anyway, I know thats depressing, but just watching IU/UM rabidly at both times (I wasn't a UM fan yet, my brother didnt play at UM until '02-'06), I felt similarly shitty after every game, mostly because this great player waswasting away unnoticed because of his defense's incredible suckitude.  Everytime the offense got the ball it felt like they HAD to score or else the game would be over.

I have been a supporter of this regime since Day 1.  However, 4-16 in the Big Ten is impossible to imagine and even harder to take. My personal emotions during the last 24 hours started as rage, moved to depression, and have finally have reached accepetance.

The acceptance phase of my emotional rollercoaster is something I have fought against since December of 2007. Before the disaster last night,  I fully believed in our Head Coach and his philosophy.  I fully believed that Michigan would find a way to play solid defensively.  I fully believed that this offensive phsilosphy was the way to win big time college football games on the national stage.   However, everything I believed in the last 34 months has been wrong and there are no more excuses.  This philosophy of football at Michigan has not worked, the defense is light years away from being average, and the offense is cute, but not cute enough to win against real teams. Don't even get me started on the pathetic special teams.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong, but there isn't gonna be enough time time to proove that Coach Rodriguez is right.  This era of Michigan football is on lifesupport and it's gonna take four defensive miracles to save it.  It is just about time for all of us to say goodnight...

I talked myself out of insanity when I realized I was going to be happy with a 7-5 record this year in Sept.  Another thing I realized when I was sobered up on Sunday was:

One of best offences in the country coupled with one of the worst defences in the county means 6-6 is to be expected.
