A New Tradition Comment Count

In an effort to keep the moderators from pulling their hair out we've gone back to semi-lockdown, where you need 500 points to start a thread and 100 points to leave a comment. Things will return to normal Monday whenever I remember to change the settings back.

Yes, this is the same thing that happened after last year's incredibly depressing loss to a weak opponent on Halloween weekend. Here is a kitten:

whoa whoa whoa let's hear more about these goddamn Bruce Tall rumors. If true it's the best thing to happen to Michigan football in two years

He's a 4-3 guy isn't he?  As a personal preference I like the 4 man front better than the 3.  Obviously any scheme can work if executed properly with the right players, but for some reason I really like the 4-2-5 much better than the 3-3-5.  I guess we'll soon find out if the rumors are true, and honestly, I kind of hope they are (nothing against GERG, I just haven't felt good about his coaching ability since we hired him, despite trying to give him the benefit of the doubt over and over).

I know arod said it with some sarcasm, but this is kind of a concern.  Remember the sudden switch to 3-3-5 before Purdue and such.  I think GREG is the main problem.  He did poorly with 'Cuse and he is doing poorly here.  However I have to wonder what percentage of the problems come from RR messing around in the DC's turf.

It would explain why Schafer and RR had problems.  Schafer resented the meddling and fought back.  Thus leading to Schafer leaving/getting fired.  I don't want part of our new DC's job to be "working around the HC" as a daily task.

I kind of get the same vibe and I also think the assistants on D are RR cronies (which isn't inherently good or bad, just what the situation is) and if the guy from the outside has a different opinion than the assistants then the assistants go over the D-coord's head to RR since they're all buddies and RR tells the D-coord to go with what the assistants think.

This is obviously just conjecture based upon rumors and just musing about the staff situation, but I also wouldn't be surprised if there were some truth to it either.  I agree that the DC needs to have complete control of the defensive side unless something unusual comes up.  RR may be screwing himself over by trying to be overly controlling, and/or the D assistants being just as much at fault because they continually go over the DC's head.  I've been patient due our current defensive roster's lack of talent/exp, but at the same time I just get the vibe that something isn't right and needs to change.

Also Gibson is the DBs coach and Assistant Head Coach.  It's weird to me how in one sense he outranked the DC, yet he works under him.  Sometimes I wonder if they use their ties to RR to simply go around the DC.  We seem so disjointed on the field and I wonder if that is a reflection of off the field actions.

Like you said, we're young but with the talent we recruit we should at least be able to field a mediocre defense.  The whole "we're young" thing doesn't really work an excuse when you get lit up by a young QB.

I agree and I'm glad to see Shafer do well.  He was pretty excited to come to Michigan, his family was too, and then, well, nevermind.

I was just sayin.

However, regardless of "boss wins subordinate loses" I think it illustrates coaching counts.  I expect to get negbanged from the "give-RR-a-chance-give-him-time-to-install-his-system-he-doesn't-have-all-his-players-yet-do-you-want-to-set-back-the-program-more-years" crowd for that last statement.

Brian,

Please consider adding a zero to each of these numbers for posting/commenting after any loss.

Also, please consider adding the "are you serious" button after the save button.

Best regards,

slow down there champ, many perfectly reasonable posters don't need a 5000 point threshold to prevent them from making threads. A significant percentage (not the majority but significant) of posters are above that number and still dumb

Not only did they beat MSU in soccer, but they left several MSU players prone on the field in despair.  Srsly.  they were just laying out there in total misery while the student section went nuts and the entire team started dry humping each other in joy and I smiled with grim, grim statisfaction.
