The geniuses who give out the Naismith Award came up with 30 finalists this week, and it's a pretty interesting list. I looked it over in the halfhearted hope that Manny would be on there, and of course he wasn't. I noticed something else though: only one player from the Big 10!
Now I'm not saying that Manny necessarily deserved to be in the final 30, although when you look at his all-around stats I think he should certainly be close. But I have to think the conference as a whole should have a little more representation. The ACC got 9 guys, the Big East got 8 guys, and even the absolutely horrendous SEC got a couple. No Kalin Lucas? No Taylor Battle? There's no way you will ever convince me that somebody like Kyle Singler is better than those guys.
I also loved that the Big 10's lone representative was....Robbie Hummel. Granted he's a great player, as we saw last night. But he's also missed an entire month of the season. Seems like it would be hard to have the best season in the country when you've missed 20% of said season??
