Multiple Reports: Braxton Miller Injured, Season In Jeopardy Comment Count

Multiple outlets are reporting that Braxton Miller reinjured his shoulder in practice this evening, and it could cause him to miss the 2014 season. Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch first reported the news:

Ohio State senior quarterback Braxton Miller, considered by several polls to be among the preseason leaders to make a run at the Heisman Trophy, reinjured his right shoulder in practice this afternoon, sources told The Dispatch. The injury puts in jeopardy his playing status for the coming season.

An OSU spokesman would not confirm the news, and coach Urban Meyer could not be reached for comment.

Eleven Warriors reports that Miller left practice in a sling. Bucknuts claims a third source that says Miller was injured in today's practice. All are reporting that the injury is to Miller's right (throwing) shoulder, which he injured against Clemson in the Orange Bowl before undergoing surgery in February. Ohio State hasn't confirmed any of these reports thus far.

If Miller misses time, redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett currently leads redshirt sophomore Cardale Jones to be the next in at quarterback for Ohio State. Barrett redshirted in 2013 while recovering from a knee injury he suffered in his senior season of high school. Jones appeared in three games last season, completing 1/2 passes for 3 yards and rushing 17 times for 128 yards and a touchdown.

This post will be updated when official word comes from Ohio State.

He's in a pretty unfortunate situation right now, NFL wise. This needed to be a year where he showed considerable improvement in his throwing, particularly his accuracy. Now he may not get that chance, and his being injured again only reinforces to NFL teams that he's fragile. So, do you take a redshirt year, rehab and bank on 2015 finally being your breakthrough year while taking one more year of getting pummeled for free, maybe injuring yourself even worse? Or, do you take the chance and go pro after this year?

Honestly it's got to be tough for him. Michigan bias aside, I wouldn't have used any pick higher than a 4th to 5th rounder on him had he come out last year, simply due to his injuries and his less than stellar accuracy. Maybe he'd be a long term project you can develop. Now he's definitely drifting into 6th-7th round, even undrafted territory.

Oh snap! This might be a tighter race in the B1G East than expected. If he is out for the season or just for some of it like the MSU game, MSU should be the favorite.

Too bad for Braxton...   I would not want to be the radiologist reading his upcoming MRI, nor his orthopedic surgeon.  Two injuries to the same shoulder will be a future concern for his career.

I'm a Michigan fan, but I think we can all (or nearly all) agree that it is a terrible thing for a young man to suffer a potentially severe injury just before he makes it to the big leagues. Here's Hoping he fully recovers, and loses squarely against Michigan every November.

Dammit, you're right.  Good call sir.  Good call. Can someone please post the .gif of Urbz sadly biting into that piece of pizza after getting rolled by msu?  I feel like it fits the situation perfectly lol.  I am sad for Braxton because the kid is a baller, but I hate Meyer and imagine, if true, that he's not real enthused right about now.  I know nothing concrete has come out yet but I wouldn't be surprised, unless a rotator tear or other serious shoulder injury, if he wasn't ready by the michigan game.

Braxton Miller should go to the NFL...... and play RB. He should be open to switching positions because I don't see him as an NFL QB and I'm not just saying that as a UM-Ohio thing.

This weekend, my brother and I were discussing the upcoming football season. While discussing Ohio, I said something about Ohio now running their QB more often in Urban's offense, and how that made him more injury prone. I remember the days when we had a running QB and how much trouble Denard had staying healthy for a full season. I said, if Braxton gets hurt, they don't have a capable backup unlike last year when they had Guyton. One freaking day later, Miller gets injured. Beware my jinxing powers. The Kavorka runs strong with this one.

In all seriousness, I don't wish harm or injury to any of our opponents, the timing of this is just too funny.

Am I the only one who thinks the sports media is delusional at times?  A young line, no Hyde, most likely no Miller and Ohio still a top 15 team?  I guess I forgot how brilliant Urbz was without Timmy down south.  Yes, I know this is different, but I'm not buying that they're not going to struggle quite a bit until I see it.  Look at Michigan in Denard's senior year.  If he had stayed healthy I think Michigan has a great shot to win the Big 10.  Bellomy incident aside, DG was a unique talent.  This Barrett kid may be talented, but I think he suffers some growing pains.
