Apparently David Oku is moving from Oklahoma and is transferring to a high school in Nebraska for his second semester of high school. The reason: So that he can be closer to his girfriend that he met while on his official to Nebraska. I seriously think this kid has a lotta talent but this drama around him may hurt his recruiting a lot. Heres the link:
More David Oku drama...
Funny comment on that link:
"I guess he is that guy that falls in love with the first girl he hooks up with. That is not the kind of kid I want with the ball in his hands and the game on the line." Hahaha people crack me up.
He's already getting some quality ball touches. HEY-O!
... and those touches usually lead to him plowing through a gap on his way to score...
I would still take him in a heartbeat. He's got great balance and speed.
If you got to GAMES (and click on State Championship), and then PLAYS OF THE WEEK, you will see videos of him: http://www.carlalbertfootball.com/
Although they ended up losing in the finals to Booker T. (I watched the game on FSCA).
Were we ever in the running for this guy?
Look just get this kid to come for a visit and hook him up with a couple of hookers... I mean escorts and we should be able to get him in here.
This is just strange:
"I'm moving to Nebraska," Oku said. "Go ahead can write a story about it. I'm not releasing any more information about that. I may not be living with her, or I might be living with her. I'm going be living in an apartment. They didn't buy me a house.''
He's like the Alex Legion of football recruiting.
I dunno; Bryce Brown is making a pretty good argument, too.
The commenters pointed out a rumor that he had gotten the girl pregnant and that this was part of his decision process. I don't know how much credence to give that rumor but it seems like that would be a HUGE reason why he would move there (and possible enroll at Nebraska). Obviously we don't know the reasons behind it but when I combine that with the rest of his saga it makes me really question his parent's role in his life. I think he has a lot of development as a young man to do and I hope that he is able to choose a university that allows him to develop as a player and a man. Oku looks like a stud on the football field and I wish a young kid nothing but the best but I hope for his sake that he hasn't limited his college choices by impregnating a girl.
Makes sense, especially when he decided to hold off his announcement due to personnel issues he was having.
I think you meant 'personal,' but it's kinda funny to think of his girlfriend and his unborn child as constituting 'personnel issues.' Made me laugh.
But am I the only one thinking this girl maybe took one for the team and pulled the goalie to get him in?
Yes...I'm the only one?
They do love their football in Nebraska. Maybe in the Osbourne days I'd really believe that was possible but since they're no longer a power I only kind of believe it. Though no rebuilding is done without sacrifice.
not entirely. I agree that having a child with someone is an excellent reason to stay in the area. I don't agree with your indictment of Oku's parents. Any of us who had sex before the age of 18 could have wound up in the same situation. Add the fact that girls throw themselves at these recruits and it makes this sort of thing more likely. Put a few beers in an 18 year old and have a hottie who is "on the pill" offer her services and how many would refuse?
I think his complaint about the parents was more a complaint about allowing a high school kid to go live with his girlfriend than the "morality" involved in getting a girl pregnant (which isn't even a confirmed fact).
If your son doesn't know to pull out by age 18 then you haven't done your job as a parent as far as I'm concerned.
I'm 25 and I don't know how to pull out.
Just don't bang any Christians and you should be fine.
I didn't know Christians banged.
Or is it bung?
You're still a virgin and can save it for marriage if you just throw it in the two-hole instead, from what I hear.
Yes, all the good girls I've been with (i.e. those who want to save it for marriage) just tell me to throw it in their two-hole instead.
It really seems like that defeats the purpose.
I mean, that one gets pregnant, it stays pregnant. Am I right?
On the other hand, if you are a football player there are worse places to be limited to than Nebraska. I mean, he could have impregnated a girl in South Dakota or Wyoming or New Mexico or something.
Of course, if Nebraska doesn't want him, he's kinda hosed.
scouting report on the kid says he is a liability in protection.
Is that supposed to be double entendre?
You never know with young couples. In a few years, he could be one of those feel-good stories that are written about players who juggle fatherhood, marriage, studies, and college football and excel in everything.
Or he could be pumping gas in Nebraska after causing them to go on probation.
Ya just never know, but I hope it goes the right way wherever he decides to go.
I think Yinka should visit down here in new mexico. I am in Santa Fe, one of the top vacation spots in the world. Albuquerque, home of UNM, is 60 miles south on I-25. This is not South Dakota. (Invitation for response from blogger in South Dakota).
While I realize New Mexico is a nice place, New Mexico is not on the same level of program as Nebraska.
But at least you have an actual Division 1-A program, unlike SD, ND or Montana.
They have the internet there?
Wasn't this the guy who raved about the hostess at his Tennessee visit? His remarks were along the lines of..."I have a lovely hostess who's showing me EVERYTHING. She's been lovely and I appreciate her. If I wasn't with her, it probably wouldn't be as fun as it is."
He's sticking with TN. Apparently Kiffin did a private shirt ripping for him and that sealed the deal.
