Walton and Wagner went 3-for-15. Michigan spent most of the game with their top two bigs on the bench and DJ Wilson at the five versus the best team in the Big Ten with the best frontcourt in the Big Ten.

DJ lit it up. You can't have one without the other.

Want Minnesota to win today for two reasons:

1. I ALWAYS want State to lose and this would prolly seal their fate tourny-wise

2. I want another shot at Minni without the officials trying to influence the game to appease the home crowd.

Just because it would be soooooo good to have Michigan beat them under a bright spotlight.

If I agreed with your first point (i.e., if a loss here would keep Sparty out of the NCAA Tournament), I'd be on board with your logic.  But I think the NCAA committee finds Izzo totes adorbs, and with their win over Penn State I think MSU is in regardless.

Idk if we get by MSU. Just reminds me of 3 years ago when the Elite Eight team was favored to win the BTT only to shit the bed against State due to tired legs in the last game.

This tournament setup doesn't favor jump shooting teams.

Then again who knows, this team has been all over the place this year. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if we win the whole thing this year.

Lets just hope Minny and MSU is a long grinding game that also goes into OT!

Even as I typed that, I was also thinking "be careful what you wish for".  Agreed that MSU is not exactly an easy out for Michigan given team make-up.  I do think we're clicking on all cylinders right now, though, and Sparty tears are really pretty tasty.  So I'm sticking with my preference, all the while realizing that I may regret it.*

*Also realizing that my preferences really don't affect game outcomes ... .

But at 19-14 they are really going to have to think about it before giving them a slot.   Not certain but cant remember too many at-large berths going to teams with 14 losses before.

But then again it IS Izzo so........

There were like 5 in 2011, IIRC, and none since. However, there just aren't the usual set of 20-12 / 21-11 type teams that could sneak in ahead of them this year. I expect multiple 14+ loss teams to get at-large bids this year; sadly, MSU will be one of them.

two reasons:

1 - they are ripe for the picking by a mediocre power-5 or good mid-major team.  by anyone, really.  they're not, you know, good.

2 - more importantly, if sparty doesn't make it, we're going to be subject to tom fucking izzo's face as a studio talking head.  "hey, let's go back to the studio, where hall of fame coach tom izzo joins..." fuck that.  i'm angry just thinking about it.

it's that they were in a fist fight, punching each other the entire way, and outlasted them.  Street fight city.  It was the best game they played all year because they had to stay focused on a top caliber opponent and did so and won.

And when this season ends, hopefully a long time from now, IMO the MVP is easy.  Maverick Morgan.  When that dude called the team "white collar" he definitely woke something up inside them.  Say what you will but this has been a completely different team since then.

He called them out and they've responded.  It's awesome.

our primary and secondary weapons weren't working.  We had to improvise and work hard to get the W and did so.  This team is a FAR cry from the one that lost to OSU and Illinois.  They have really come around to what we thought they should be and it is AWESOME!

Wilson played the game Wagner played last time the two teams met.  This may have been more impressive because he did it without Moe on the court most of the time.  Irvin came up big but still scared me with flashes of hero-ball.

Also, Dakich was right about the O getting stagnent towards the end.

Big win gentlemen... keep up the great work (and get some rest).

Outside of a cold stretch of shooting in the 2nd half, he played an absolutely phenomenal game on both ends of the floor.  He forced a bunch of turnovers on Purdue aside from all his blocked shots.  I really hope Wagner can get untracked though.  If we have both him and Wilson playing on all cylinders, who knows how far this team can go.  Irvin is really starting to pull out of his slump too.

Calling M lucky (looking past their most recent loss against NU) and saying that the plan crash wasn't a plane crash - media is being dramatic. I want State.

DJ DJ DJ DJ outscored Purdue by 12 from FT line...Won inspite of poor 3 point shooting 6-25 & unusually poor to/assist ratio for Walton, foul trouble for our bigs, stayed mentally tough throughout game, poor officiating.

bring on sparty.  or minnesota.  doesn't matter who, they're our meat.

also - props to irvin.  wasn't a great scorer today, but had a couple of key buckets and boards, plus he played all 45 minutes.  that's a man's day.

I don't think we've seen anything this remarkable, in terms of the storylines (crash aside — the turnaround, the becoming something you aren't in such a 180-degree way, the grit and determination) since.....GASP....1989!

I know we've had better teams...and greater successes....but this story just sucks you in...and makes you so proud to be a Michigan Wolverine.

Whenever Muppets are posted, I listen all the way through, to both videos. I feel like it's just wrong of me if I don't. These Muppets are always earned - I feel like I need to pay due respect.

What about you all?

Probably not a popular opinion, but, I'd rather lose tomorrow than lose on Sunday.  I will take a tournament championship in a heartbeat, of course, but these guys need to rest up.

Crazy stat line for our victory. They shot better from two. They killed us in 3 pt %. They had triple the assists. More steals.Turnovers and fouls were both close (we usually are much better). But we had one more rebound and made 12 more FT's.

What an amazing game. Haven't felt that much tension for UM basketball in some time.
