Rawls if he can hang onto it, I'd guesss
Mike Cox Likely To Transfer
Word has reached the mgobatcave that freshman running back Mike Cox is currently scouting destinations back east in anticipation of a transfer. If he gets registered and such for the fall semester, he can spend this year as his mandatory redshirt and be eligible next fall; if he goes through with it we’ll know soon.
Cox probably saw the writing on the wall with Sam McGuffie and Michael Shaw already seeing time and three running back recruits—all of whom are decidedly small shifty types, not thumpers like Cox—in the 2009 class.
The moral, as always: don’t recruiting running backs with funny names.

...miss Fitzpatrick Toussaint. I mean, you're already changing it to Fitzpatrick from "Fitzgerald." Soon you'll forget about him altogether.
That's a good point.
If I were a real loser I'd edit my original post now, but I won't.

I had 17 posts designed around Mike Cox and Shavodrick Beaver. What a waste of my time. This is horseshit.
"But, um, do you have any friends that can play QB on short notice? What?? Just asking!"
On how long it takes someone here to make the "He's not a Michigan Man" or "Those who stay will be champions" reference? I'll set the line at 10 comments.
And I thought I was against the jokes. Just shift him over to TE in 2010. That's what I did in NCAA 09. RR already followed my example by putting Warren at PR.

I am totally cool with this. I'm not in favor of the Saban method of pushing guys out, but if non-contributors are bailing to leave a schollie open to a guy who can really contribute, I like that.
that's one more schollie RR has available now

Yeah I thought it was odd that we kept Cox but didn't go after Christian Wilson, whom both don't really fit Michigan's system.
I know we offered a RB schollie to Cox over Jonas Gray; would Gray have fit our system?
maybe carlos brown should transfer too

I don't get the joke. You're being sarcastic, right? I mean, C Brown is IMO the best RB on the team.
Oh wait, is it because his name isn't funny? Sorry I killed your joke.

i've always liked C Brown. and you're right in that he may be the best RB on the team, but he doesn't seem to be getting any love from the UM coaches...old and new. i know RR said he has a shoulder injury, and he hurt his hand in the spring, but for supposedly such a great athlete he hasn't done anything at UM. and now it looks like he's buried behind McGuffie, Shaw and Minor. didn't he enroll early as a freshman? i know he was stuck behind Hart for two years but he didn't really even beat out Minor for the number two spot in 2007. he is a great athlete but it seems he would get more playing time elsewhere. that said i hope he stays
IMHE
Re-read your own post. He enrolled early, then couldn't get on the field as Hart's backup. He couldn't beat out Grady or Minor convincingly. The new regime has him behind two freshmen and Minor. At some point, isn't it more that Carlos is a great athlete but disappointing football player and less that the coaches/illuminati/free masons are holding him back?

i don't think anyone is holding him back. i just think he may be a victim of circumstance (injuries, systems, teammates, etc.). he could be a great RB somewhere, but I don't think it's gonna happen at UM. if he transferred today he would still have two years of eligibility, right? if he is concerned about his education he should stay. if not he could be a primary RB at a lot of other schools.
IMHE
He was injured for the first game, in which the freshman RBs were only able to get less than 50 yds rushing. If he is needed, and he most certainly is, then I bet that he will play. I could be wrong; he could actually be buried in the depth chart, and it could be set in stone, but I doubt it.
I don't get why he is behind Minor, but the coaches know something that we don't. Like I said, I thought Brown was the better of the two backs last year. Plus, he's fast as hell.

I think Avery Horn should be next. No offense to him, but he's also very unlikely to see the field. We could put his scholarship to better use as well.
i don't get it. Avery looked like the best player on the team in the spring game. and he is a really fast, small guy. seems like a great fit for RR's offense. i wonder what the deal is with him.

Just because a guy can't get on the field doesn't mean we should push him out the door and grab another freshman. Unbelievable.
I said - not good enough.
I don't think we should be pushing anyone out the door, but the difference is that RichRod doesn't HAVE to remove players. Saban did. If the guy can't get on the field I'd support him transferring to play, but I'd also support him sticking it out and finishing his collegiate career as a Wolverine. I'm honestly surprised Cox stayed with his commit, and IIRC Carlos Brown almost xferred last year? However this works out, best of luck to any player that decides to further their education and football career elsewhere, and also to the players that stay despite not going to play.
Yes, to clarify, I don't think we should push anyone out as well. I certainly feel that if we offer someone a scholarship to play football at Michigan that they are then welcome to stay here for 4 years. That being said, in a handful of situations, both the player and the university benefit through a player tranferring to another school. Mike Cox is a good example of that.
Push him out the door! Get outta here Carlos! LEAVE US!
I miss Keith Jackson.
Michigan could use a battering-ram-Owen-Schmidt type FB/RB in this offense. With such a terrible OL it would be nice to give the ball to someone who could break a tackle. Maybe Grady will be that guy?
Also, in regard to the RBs' playing time: remember Brown was The Great Fumblor and that is what buried him down the depth chart. Minor, too. If yu are a running back and you fumble, prepare to grab some bench.

Mike Cox, Mister Simpson, Max Martin....whyyyyyy?
The trend of funny names that transfer leaves me lukewarm on the future of Shavodrick Beaver and Fitzpatrick Toussaint now.
