Michigan In, Versus Tennessee Comment Count

Brian

The big reveal:

8. Michigan vs
9. Tennessee

Hypothetical second round opponent: #1 Duke.

Eight seed is way high, no?

UPDATE: Video!

Not exactly Kansas in terms of blase but you don't have to act like you've been there when you haven't. At least not much.

I like being in the second announced region this year... much more relaxing than 2 years ago, but an 8 seed?   Wow.

8 seed shocked me. But call me crazy, but I really, really like our draw. Other than Duke, none of that region is playing that great right now and we can match up well with Duke.

Somebody not named Michigan is going to get boned hard at the end of this....Gonna be a controversial tourney selection if you ask me.....  HTF is Georgia a 10 seed?  and Penn State got the draw I was hoping for.....

I knew we were in. But how the hell are we an 8??? No complaining, but....how the hell are we an 8.

Basic eyeball test, Tennessee has a lot of similarities with Sparty. Have to look at it much closer but certainly a winnable game. Ugly Second Round game against Duke after though...

Not loving win-than-play-one-seed (would've loved to have SDSU sooner in the bracket) but we don't have an easy first round game. We have our work cut out for us especially playing against Tennessee in SEC country.

8 seed is not too high based on the surprising respect they are giving the Big Ten. If Penn State is a 10, 8 sounds about right for us.

We made it all the way up to an 8 seed.  I did not expect that we would actually be a higher seed than our first round opponent.

Bad News:  If we win on Friday, we get to play Duke in Charlotte NC.

I would much rather have, for example, Penn State's 10 seed against Temple and then SDSU.  So far, I would rather have any of the 10 seeds than our #8.

Be careful what you ask for.

like a Top 32.

Maybe the committee places much more weight on resume for the in vs out decision (they damn well better, it's only fair), but then adds more weight to the recent play/eye test for the seeding.

I was expecting us to beat tOSU yesterday.  A 9-seed opponent? We can handle that.

I thought they'd be a 9, but only in a season like this. I'd so much rather be a 10-seed and have the draw Penn State got. Temple and hypothetical 2nd round vs San Diego State instead of Tennessee and hypothetical 2nd round vs Duke in Charlotte.

Initial thoughts is the committee did a poor job.  That is to be expected with Gene Smith leading the way.

Duke is the most favorable 1 seed we could draw so I'm OK with it.  Just can't look past Tennessee.

I'd rather look forward to a super weak #2 seed in Florida and swap out #8 seed for the Spartan special.  Happy to be in the tourney...dreading hearing how Tom Izzo is a genius for his tourney performance.

i cant believe USC got in but they left out Colorado and Va Tech. isn't this the 30th straight year virginia tech has fallen on the wrong side of the bubble?

NCAA tourny selection...how does Alabama not get in and gerogia as 10th seed? us at eighth, i was hoping for 10/11. This might actaully hurt us i dont like how we match with the tenn, they got a big team and harris can ball....

Just got back from the viewing party at Crisler. Two things of note: during his speech, JB made gentle fun of not letting assistant coach Bacari Alexander talk because otherwise he wouldn't be done until past midnight. He said to check out JohnBeilein.com in a bit for some amusing pre-game speeches from the assistants.

Also, one of the CBS women told the crowd that she needs us to "start cheering directly after this commercial" wink wink, and then we were announced.

Honestly, if we can get past Tennessee (which I would expect -- they are prone to turnovers etc), I would rather face Duke than SDSU. SDSU is incredibly athletic. We beat a Duke team two years ago that was better than this one, and I would argue that this year's team is better than the one with Manny et al two years ago. We've stuck with top teams all year and we're totally capable of beating a #1 seed. If anything, a #8 seeding should give them confidence that the committee thought of them so highly.

Yep. Eighth seed is too high. On a number of fronts it seems the committee is dumb as usual. Not complaining though.
