And lo, the Sparty Bros chanted "Little Sister," for they had survived the onslaught from Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, Spike Albrecht, and Max Bielfeldt. The resilient Spartans nearly covered the spread in overtime, and this outstanding effort was well worth reinforcing their massive inferiority complex and questionable-at-best views on gender.

With this signature victory, MSU improved to 1-0 against Michigan in 2014-15, and 3-6 against them over the last five regular seasons.

In the game thread someone asked what the State fans were chanting late in overtime. I did not catch their exact words, but I think the gist was: "I am a classless jerk." BTW, Michigan and Michigan State in the past two seasons have played men's football or basketball six times (including the B1G Tournament). Of those six games, one was in Ann Arbor, and one was at a neutral site.

I agree the little sister chanting is dumb. But as an msu fan it is pretty annoying to read this 'recap' as well. MSU won. UM lost. Everything else is excuses. You complain constantly about Izzo whining about injuries....isn't that all you fans are doing now?

I didn't see him whine anywhere. Or say that we would have won with our other players. All he said was that it's pretty dumb for MSU fans to gloat over a home win against a pretty mediocre team. Which most of your fanbase is doing. We had our chance. We couldn't get it done. Still proud of our guys for playing over their head today. Hopefully they get it done in Ann Arbor.

And there is also a difference between some Michigan fans talking about their injuries and Izzo the coach whining on national television about his injuries.

Didn't get to see the game, but the fact that his band of 'weird guys' almost won in East Lansing again (which if you'll recall we didn't do for like 15 years until just a few seasons ago) is testament to his coaching prowess

Guy played center for most of the game, defending guys 3 inches and 25-30 pounds bigger than him, and led the team in minutes.  I doubt that's what he imagined for himself when he signed up at Michigan.

Tough shooting night and trouble getting his shot off against Dawson (who - credit due - played great for them) but he had some big baskets, steals, even a few nice assists.  He's coming along nicely as a player and he's going to get a lot better experiencing being the focus of defenses over the next few weeks.

Get to finish off this shitty weekend by watching Brady come up short in another Super Bowl. I am really sick of the damn Seahawks. They run their mouths too damn much.

It was a great game- the second half was very entertaining.   I didn't see anything controversial in terms of officiating, so that's nice.  Both teams played hard but unfortunately we came up short.  Considering our roster woes, it's impressive that we have been so competitive.  Time to regroup and get that W when they come to our place.  Go Blue!

has been discussed before but here's a second hand JUB from a friend of mine who took JUB's class a few years ago (paraphrasing from what I remember):

When MSU first became a school they were Michigan Ag School and would routinely get crushed by UM in athletics.

Also at this time (early 1900's I believe), there were academic and scientific revolutions coming out of UM.  This lead AA to be known as the "Athens of the Midwest."

Sometime after this became a household name for AA, MSU took it upon themselves to be the spartans, in direct opposition to the Athens reference.

Again, SH JUB story, but if true I think that says a lot about how institutional the inferiority complex is.

You Have to be pretty excited about the future! All the injuries and early entries will be a blessing in disguise moving into next year. You throw MAAR, Dawkins, and even dakich and lonegran into the fire and it forces them to compete. And they have and they're getting better. If Duncan Robinson and Wilson can get stronger and jump right in that will add depth. Wilson needs a big offseason however. But you gotta love how the team competes!

I was accepted to Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (YTM), Missouri, and West Virginia (parents are alums).

Went to MSU as a J school major - switched over to Telecom end of sophomore year. Even in the 80s you could see print was going to die.

Does anyone think that Caris was just getting stats? I mean, it seems like we are playing like a team now that he is sitting...Just a thought. Also I am sooooooo tired of Irvan. He got blocked so many times I wanted to puke! He isn't shooting very well either he is just chucking it up! Also he gets beat on D almost every single time. He needs to sit or get his head in the game!
