Welcome to College Gameday Final- *click* It's going to be a long week of not watching any replays, hi-lights or anything relating to college football. Into the submarine for the bye week and back out next week. Stay strong Maize n Blue Nation. It hurts, but good days are coming soon. Go and get the Jug back in Minnesota. Go Blue!

It was all so simple, kick the ball. This will either galvanize us or send us into a spiral. I hate that the bye week in next. This team needs to get back out there and play. There is so much to play for and the future is bright. I just wish this decade of pain would end. The season is summed up by two games. Let's lock our wounds enjoy some much needed alcohol and move on. A win against OSU will make this one much easier to look back on in a few years.

He put the MMB CD on with that final punt play still pending.  Me: "this is premature, don't do it, oooooooooh, look what's happening oooooooh noooooooo it's over."

required some level of incompetence. (Refs miss tackle of Dez, timekeeper gives MSU another second, and botched snap) UM would go on to run off a string of victories after the two previous unexpected victories.

I didn't see it live because I was in church.  I just watched it and can't believe it.  I have now seen them lose to Colorado on an almost impossible 70ish yard pass, I think they had a punt blocked by Ohio back in the late 1970's or early 1980's to lose, the Horror and now this.

This has to be the worst loss in Michigan history.

How I choose to move past this game:
We're 5-2 with both losses against top 10 (or maybe top 5) teams by a TD or less
HARBAUGH.... is there any doubt that this team will come out laser focused in 2 weeks?
I looked at my 4 month old right after the game ended in all his Michigan gear and hey, shut could be a lot worse
Jameson.... After the kid went to bed, of course

Even that didn't make me feel better.

I just blankly stared at the screen replaying the end of the game in my head over, and over, and over again.

So I'm just going to leave this here:

I still think we have one of the best punters in football.  Up until that last play, O'Neill had put more punts inside of the 5 yard line than I have seen from anyone.  Yes he has great coverage, but the guy is super accurate and hangs the ball high so his guys can get it.

He also had like an 80 yard punt that flipped the field for Michigan.  It was a huge play.

I hear that O'Neill is getting death threats on twitter or something - that is obviously ridiculous under any circumstance, but honestly I'm glad he's our punter.  I think if he keeps his head he's going to win us a game in November.  Maybe OSU will come down to something he does.

This was a tough way to go out for sure, but I think O'Neill is going to get motivated and be a bit smarter going forward.  I wish he had more eligbility because he'll never try and kick a ball he should fall on ever again.  I'd trust him with every punt going forward.

quite a ways into the comments....

We were uncharacteristically sloppy in a lot of ways. Muffed return we got lucky to get back, illegal substitution on defense, OL moved a couple times, lost the their FB on the 80 yard TD, muffed the kick on the last play, stupid personal foul on 3rd down that cost us the ball...
Honestly, I thought it was the worst game-ready we've looked all season...and for all that we were still 10 seconds from a win.

but he will never live this down, ever.  No one will ever look back favorably on his tenure.

This disaster will be on every pre-game "rivalry" highlights reel for UM/MSU until the end of time.

ND, please tell me that stands for Notre Dame. Do you realize how lucky we are to have Blake O'Neil (probably misspelled) on our team? Your quote, "No one will ever look back favorably on his tenure" is wrong and it's mean spirited. What a punter! We have him for only this year, and I pretty much expect we will miss him. Are you aware of a better punter we could have this year or next? One that doesn't make mistakes?

Blake may never forget this thing, but there's nothing to live down.

We have a mediocre offense and an above average defense. No one can dispute that. Have fun. Try to live through the weekend.

When one of my buddies would constantly talk shit about Henne never winning any big games. He'd bitch all day about how Michigan would be better when he'd leave and a better QB would step in. Little did he know our best passing QB post Henne would be Tate Forcier...

I'm really struggling with this one.  That's about the worst way to lose a game that I can possibly imagine.  Just absolutely brutal.  This is gonna stay with me for a long time.

I care again.  That's the number one takeaway for me, after standing for the entire game in section 44.  (Well, OK, we sat down during some of the media timeouts).  Along with the rest of you, I stared in shock at the field, unable to comprehend what I'd just seen.  (Then, I stared in shock at Sparty celebrating with their students when the player who scored the TD was on the field and we were afraid he wouldn't get up.  He did, thankfully, but you'd still think a couple of Spartans would have noticed...)

I don't remember the last time I was this angry after a loss.  I'd say Louisville, except we all felt so wonderfully surprised that the team was in the national chamionship game in the first place.  Maybe the Trash Tornado game in 2011?  It's been a long time.  Last year, Michigan got their rear ends kicked by these guys, and the reaction was a collective 'meh.'  It had stopped hurting.  My expectations had been completely destroyed.  Michigan wasn't Michigan anymore.

After today, I'm certain, Michigan is back.  There will be other losses, and there will be many more wins -- in two weeks at Minnesota, and next year in East Lansing, to name two -- and, because we're Michigan, (most of) the losses will hurt more than the wins will feel good.  But I no longer have to worry about Michigan getting outcoached.  I no longer have to worry about being embarrassed by the performance on the field, and I will no longer have an empty feeling in the increasingly rare case that Michigan loses.

Today, we saw nearly everything that could possibly go wrong do so, and the net result was a four-point loss in which Staee never had a lead until the final whistle.  Back in the day -- before the dark times of the RR / Hoke era -- Sparty would eke out a win every 8-10 years or so, usually on some ridiculous set of circumstances that would contribute to future rule changes (The Howard trip helped lead to overtime in college football; Sparty Bob led directly to time being kept by the on-field official).  It's horribly unfortunate that they got their absurd win this year, but that's all it is -- Sparty's absurd win that will have to keep them happy for the next decade.

And, to those of you freaking out, worrying about the impact on recruiting and what have you -- just stop it.  If, after this game, some kid wants to go to MSU because their football team is "better," I question his decision-making process, but happy trails to him -- and I look forward to his 0-4 record vs Michigan.  Personally, if I were a 17-year old kid blessed with athletic talent and able to choose between playing for Dantonio and playing for Harbaugh, it would take me about 10 seconds to decide which was a preferable career path.

How many times do you think Michigan State will have 9/22 starters injured, playing UM on the road? How many times will the officials grant a phantom touchdown, in which they began pulling MSU players off the pile before blowing the whistle? This was UM's best shot for the foreseeable future.

It's intriguing to see that, even in the wake of another loss, your seventh in the past eight, you still confidently predict Michigan's return to absolute dominance and MSU's slide into irrelevance. I believe that the status quo will be maintained until the UM program, collectively, is able to reject the "Little Brother" mindset and rid themselves of the delusion and entitlement permeating the football team. However, since these things are the definining characteristics of a UM identity, I'm not sure that will ever happen. Effectively, your collective delusional belief in your innate superiority is what's holding you back from achieving that superiority. Your fanbase reminds one of the late Roman Empire - a crumbling ruin, held aloft only by a few arrogant consuls based in Ravenna while Rome itself is sacked repeatedly by the barbarians still routinely denigrated by Roman elites.

trying to sound intelligent but the errors in your logic and absence of facts betray you for the imbecile that you are.

Phantom touchdown? You mean the one where he clearly rolled into the endzone?

Injured players? UM had just as long of a list. Smith was playing hurt, Drake Johnson did not play, Mario Oujmudia and Brian Mone are out all year...but yeah, keep talking about how banged up MSU was.(UM started the game with one guy suspended for a half another ejected for targeting calls that were not targeting.)

Then there is the irony of you calling Michigan arrogant whilst exhibiting that very same trait. You either too obtuse to recognize this or just don't don't care. Based on the logic you have employed previously I'll have to go with an lack of intellect.

MSU will lose next year and the years because it is afflected with putz' like you who do not understand the game. MSU loses it's starting QB, several key OL, many of it's best defensive players, and most of it's WRs. Meanwhile, UM returns almost every key player on both sides save for the center and QB.The latter of which probably will see an upgrade as much from Rudock's mediocrity as the talent UM has at QB. MSU has a much steeper hill to climb in replacing a QB than UM does.UM's John O'Korn has played two seasons already. Damon Terry and Tyler O'Conner have not played a meaningful snap.

Mark Dantonio has fashioned a terrific program at MSU and no doubt MSU will be good again next year. But fans like you who lack an understanding of the game and the class not to gloat and be a horse's ass give MSU football a bad name.

I couldn't agree more with your shock of how the injured player was handled. Not only devastated to see our students cursing back and forth with the MSU teammates who were there supporting him, but equally so that some of their players chose to take pictures with the trophy for the media instead of joining the team wide huddle prayer. I thought the end was shocking until I saw how that injury was handled.

I keep seeing replays of the fumbled snap and it is so improbable that I crazily keep watching, expecting that at one point, the snap won't be fumbled.

Ah, screw it.

I'm going to fricking kill Rafiki, then I'm going to roast and eat that baboon.
