Michigan State

You know what the best way is to open yourself and all of the other internet Michigan fans up to criticism and taunts from our northern siblings? Keep going on and on about Sparty! Let's start yet another thread about MooU and keep stoking that fire. Let's address all issues here:

 They made T-shirts. Lame.

They are historically terrible.

Dude, this one time, I totally pwned a moronic Sparty fan.

I get it. You should get it by now. LET IT GO and move on. It was a loss this year, we'll get 'em next time. Let's focus on the rest of the season. We have winnable games coming up and a victory against the Bucks is entirely possible.

Totally Agree!

So what does everyone think are chances are with the Bolermakers and how we match up with them?

Well

My gut check response is that we win a close one. Purdue's D has been surprisingly better than I expected, but their offense has been shut down by any defense with a pulse. I believe we get plenty of pressure on the QB (should we be rooting for Painter or his backup?) and do just enough to get out with a win.

I highly doubt it, OSU completely ran MSU out of the building 45-7, but I speculate that State rolled over and didn't even care about that game. Dantonio will probably never beat Tressell, the question is will RR be able too?

Disagree about that

MSU undoubtedly cared, but the fact that they are an inferior version of Ohio State makes it quite difficult to win against them.  Dantonio might be able to pull one off eventually, since they aren't rivals or anything.

As for our chances, Ohio State's OL isn't great, and we have a shot at stopping the run.  That said, we are far inferior to OSU on everything except on the defensive line, where Brandon Graham will have to be a hero.  Whether we have no chance (if we play the way we are playing) or a slim chance depends on how many trick plays RichRod can come up with.  His lack of history in the rivalry is bad, but his bowl record is good; he brings his A game when given time to prepare.  The major advantage of the spread, in this case, is that there is a lot more potential to go crazy; our chances hinge on that.

The one thing I like about this season (other than Brandon Graham) is the fact that we keep developing facets of our offense; we've seen games where McGuffie, Odoms, and Minor all had a chance to star.  If we can get it all to flow together, then we are in business for next year.  Our defense, on the other hand...

We are only losing 5 starters

We are only losing 5 starters for sure next year on Defense: Jamison, Johnson, Taylor, Trent, and Harrison. Brandon Graham could be leaving too, but I think he will stay. We have Martin, Campbell (fingers crossed), Van Bergen, Cissoko and Williams to fill those positions. The linebackers will have a full year of experience starting next season and will hopefully be much better.
