/press release.
No surprises from the guy who are out (though seeing Brandon Herron and Carvin Johnson not even up to 25% is a little discouraging).
The good signs, obviously, come from Marvin Robinson and Fitzgerald Toussaint, both of whom are probable to play. Robinson back in the mix give the defense a lot more flexibility from a personnel standpoint. Although Shaw has emerged as the feature back over the past couple weeks, Michigan is looking for a true consistent threat in the backfield (aside from that Denard guy). Getting Toussaint into the mix prior to Big Ten play gives him a chance to get into game shape, and hopefully provide the run game that Michigan wants.

I want to see what Toussaint can do!

Downgrade
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
sometime soon.
Not optimistic at this point (in year-freaking-three mind you).
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
A lot of two-back sets.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:53 PM ^
Well, Denard is always in the backfield, so that counts as one...
September 24th, 2010 at 4:09 AM ^
+1 for you as per my signature.

What happened to Mike Williams? Concussion? 2 straight weeks with a "head" injury.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
Yes, he is still recovering from a concussion. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to head injuries.
September 24th, 2010 at 12:48 AM ^
Unless you play for ND.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:45 PM ^
see "Mike Williams: head" and start finding that ironic, or am I just a huge dick
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
Hm...with a Michigan player legitimately injured, I'd go with dick.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
for thinking this was a "mental injury." Not that I actually think it's funny about the actual injury part. C'mon man, gimme a little more credit than that.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
No, I get what you are saying. I will get you more credit. I did chuckle a bit then felt bad for doing so since he is actually injured. So with the added credit, you are now only half a dick. I don't know if that's better or worse, though. Sounds worse.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
John Bobbitt thinks it's worse.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
that makes you a half-dick too!
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:09 PM ^
It was a soft chuckle. Barely audible. No one heard it.

September 23rd, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Well, you did offer your comment up for evaluation.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
I know that RR has implied that he won't miss too many games, but judging from the way Carvin had to be helped off the field, and then driven to the locker room on the cart, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not back until later in the season, if at all. As far as Fitz goes, I'm not holding my breath either. Considering that he's been injured his entire Michigan "career," there are a lot of people banking on him being a difference maker in an actual game. He's been really snakebit so far.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Agree about Carvin. Even if its a grade 1 or 2 sprain it can take months to heal. I've been dealing with soreness from a grade 1 for 4 weeks now, and all I do is ride a bike.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:08 PM ^
He has a sprained MCL and from the early reports not a serious one. This is a 3 to 6 week ( for the more serious ones ) injury. My guess is that he is already up and running ( close to if not at full speed) it's just his lateral movement thats not at 100% yet. Im betting he's cleared to play for the Indiana game ( although how much he plays depends on how far he's fallen behind ) and is back starting by MSU, unless Gordon starts playing out of his mind and refuses to give it back.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:20 PM ^
On the bright side, if he misses most of the season, he would be able to still redshirt right?
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:35 PM ^
I think he'd have to be unable to play the rest of the season; the injury definitely happened early enough, but if he is healthy in November I don't think they can apply for one on his behalf.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:58 PM ^
RR has given no reason to believe that the injury status of a spain MCL has changed. In fact he has done the opposite in sayin he should be back next week (which falls into the appropriate timetable for an MCL injury). This is a more common injury then you think and I've played with a few team mates who've had it. If they had dropped the surgery bomb on us I'd be worried. Even if it lingers, we're looking at the middle of Oct. Im not lossing any sleep on this one.
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:42 PM ^
TY, i was just wondering worst case scenario and the silver lining in it. I wasn't aware of how serious, or not serious in this case, a sprained MCL is.
September 24th, 2010 at 8:31 AM ^
If he isn't ready to play by, say, the tenth week (i.e., after Penn State), they could decide to shut him down for the season. I believe zlionsfan is right -- a medical redshirt can't do the same things as a standard redshirt -- he would have to be held out of full participation for the rest of the season, even during practice. Compliance would be all over it -- MIchigan has to be very careful about anything like this.
I think they are just being cautious -- they want him ready to play in as much of the Big Ten schedule as possible -- they don't want to risk a pointless re-injury this week, which would pretty much guarantee a medical redshirt. I doubt we'll see him until MSU, unless he is truly 100% next week.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
I'm going to drink a Guiness in honor of Fitzy if he gets in the game.
And then another if he scores a TD.
Eh I'll probably have two anyways.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
just two?
September 23rd, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
After two I switch to a mixture of whiskey and gasoline.
Well, recently.
This year I may just stick with beer since I won't feel nearly as bad.
September 23rd, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
I respect you and your beer.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:14 PM ^
Instead of Guiness, how about in honor of "Fitzy" you try a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Otherwise known as an "Eddy Fitz". See what I did there.
September 23rd, 2010 at 9:15 PM ^
2nd best porter on earth. (Flying Dog Imperial Porter being #1)

Go figure that it takes a full moon for Junior to avoid the injury report.

Here's to hoping that he's the guy to give us that much needed special teams boost.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:16 PM ^
On the brightside, Junior Hemingway is healthy. It's a festivus miracle.
September 23rd, 2010 at 8:27 PM ^
If Mike Williams was available to play, would he be having any impact? In other words, would he be getting any playing time?
September 24th, 2010 at 8:05 AM ^
And we'll leave it at that...
September 24th, 2010 at 9:21 AM ^
I want to see what Cox can do he seems like the most explosive back we have and should be given a chance!
