/press release.

No surprises from the guy who are out (though seeing Brandon Herron and Carvin Johnson not even up to 25% is a little discouraging).

The good signs, obviously, come from Marvin Robinson and Fitzgerald Toussaint, both of whom are probable to play. Robinson back in the mix give the defense a lot more flexibility from a personnel standpoint. Although Shaw has emerged as the feature back over the past couple weeks, Michigan is looking for a true consistent threat in the backfield (aside from that Denard guy). Getting Toussaint into the mix prior to Big Ten play gives him a chance to get into game shape, and hopefully provide the run game that Michigan wants.

I know that RR has implied that he won't miss too many games, but judging from the way Carvin had to be helped off the field, and then driven to the locker room on the cart, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not back until later in the season, if at all. As far as Fitz goes, I'm not holding my breath either. Considering that he's been injured his entire Michigan "career," there are a lot of people banking on him being a difference maker in an actual game. He's been really snakebit so far.

He has a sprained MCL and from the early reports not a serious one. This is a 3 to 6 week ( for the more serious ones ) injury. My guess is that he is already up and running ( close to if not at full speed)  it's just his lateral movement thats not at 100% yet. Im betting he's cleared to play for the Indiana game ( although how much he plays depends on how far he's fallen behind ) and is back starting by MSU, unless Gordon starts playing out of his mind and refuses to give it back.

RR has given no reason to believe that the injury status of a spain MCL has changed. In fact he has done the opposite in sayin he should be back next week (which falls into the appropriate timetable for an MCL injury). This is a more common injury then you think and I've played with a few team mates who've had it. If they had dropped  the surgery bomb on us I'd be worried. Even if it lingers, we're looking at the middle of Oct. Im not lossing any sleep on this one.

If he isn't ready to play by, say, the tenth week (i.e., after Penn State), they could decide to shut him down for the season. I believe zlionsfan is right -- a medical redshirt can't do the same things as a standard redshirt -- he would have to be held out of full participation for the rest of the season, even during practice. Compliance would be all over it -- MIchigan has to be very careful about anything like this.

I think they are just being cautious -- they want him ready to play in as much of the Big Ten schedule as possible -- they don't want to risk a pointless re-injury this week, which would pretty much guarantee a medical redshirt. I doubt we'll see him until MSU, unless he is truly 100% next week.
