Michigan-Alabama In Dallas In 2012
You probably dismissed the idea of Michigan playing a huge nonconference game against Alabama in two years in Jerryworld as crackpot rumor-mongering of the sort the internet specializes in. Michigan's on the road against ND, leaving a maximum of six home games, it's transparently silly to play a college football game thousands of miles from either college, and Michigan hasn't played a neutral-site OOC game basically ever. It seemed instantly implausible.
But apparently it is happening. The contract is being signed Monday. Which is tomorrow.
The following details are unconfirmed but of interest since they come from an established source:
- Game is happening because a desperate Jerry Jones "overpaid."
- Michigan will be the nominal home team (important mostly for TV rights) and receive more money.
- There's no additional game scheduled and there may not be.
- Jones might be well-positioned to provide some advice on HD scoreboards.
This comes with a set of crazy conflicting emotions. Hurray awesome nonconference game, boo that it's in fricking Dallas in a corporate death star of an NFL stadium and not a home-and-home in Ann Arbor and Tuscaloosa. I guess that's what it takes for a lot of actual nonconference games to get done these days, but awesomeness of trip to Dallas to see M play 'Bama <<<<<< awesomeness of M-Bama home-and-home. On the other hand, awesomeness of M-Bama Dallas >>>>>>> awesomeness of M-BGSU anywhere.
[Note on sourcing: in this case I am going with one source, but he is a very established one.]
I haven't read through all the comments, but for those of you who think this will not sell out are crazy. Not only are there a lot of UM alumni/fans in Texas, there are a lot of us in other parts of the western US who have an easier time making it to Dallas for the weekend than AA. Plus, there are a ton of M fans who like to travel for games, and this is a big one. There will be no problem selling tickets.
Ahh this is exciting! It'd be pretty ballin' if I could get myself down to Dallas to watch the game and back in time for school to start! Maybe I should start looking for flights and hotels now.
It should be Michigan.
They are douche bags, they compared UM to The Citadel, talking about hanging 77 points on UM..WTF. And they hate Brian for some reason. SEC fans and bama fans specifically are ridiculous.
the Tide fans over at their blog are pretty harsh... see #5 in this post:

edit: now after reading the comments I realize that they REALLY hate us. strange

It's some fun logic: since Saban is able to shed enough players every year to get down to 85, Brian was completely incorrect in stating that Alabama signs way more recruits than he has open spaces for. Therefore, MGoBlog has never made a correct report and everything Brian says should be treated as complete hogwash.
They got into a beef with Brian regarding oversigning a while back (over a year, probably two). He handed it to them, all they had was "oh yeah, well, ... ROLL TIDE!" or something.
The funny thing is that all they have to say about the site is A) [we don't like Brian Cook] and B) horrible site design. Thanks for that awesome analysis, bubba.
I read some of the comments. What is wrong with the design. It's simple enough that a Bama fan can navigate it.
...that Florida fans were saying the same thing leading up to the '08 Capitol One Bowl game. We all know how that turned out.
True but a bunch of them were also saying that they expect us to be better by then. One guy actually said this in response to the "77-pt ass-whuppin" comment:
….they’ll rebound. This is actually the first time they have had a lull in their program. Remember…we were there just 4-10 years ago ourselves… With that being said…I think we have much more talent, and should win the game, but its not like Michigan is Louisiana-Monroe. Oops…did I say that?
Bama fans aren't known for being the most stable, but some have respectful things to say about Michigan. If you ask me, the guys at BSD are a bunch of punks.
Ann Arbor is a classy broad.

Does Bama hate Mgoblog because of the oversigning last year? Or is it something else
I've already informed my wife that I will be attending this game. This is one of those can't miss games.
Go Blue!
This was a bold call on Brian's part. I guess we'll find out today if he's right.

...was 10 Nov 1945 Navy at Baltimore (L 7-33). The Army game at Yankee Stadium (referenced above) was earlier that season.
I'm not real happy about losing a home game to do this, but I will try to be there.
It certainly marks a major change in attitude about voluntarily playing known "cheaters". Perhaps we'll agree to skip a practice if they'll agree to hold out 25 (oversigned) players.
